Star Wars, Episode IV (first movie)

The Wrath of Khan

Avatar

But there are so many I like that choosing just three was hard. Blade Runner was amazing. Terminator, Alien, The Matrix (original not the sequels), Star Trek (the 2009 reboot), Back To The Future (original), The Final Countdown, Mad Max, 2001, The Andromeda Strain... just so many good ones over the years. :)

Fantastic Voyage

Dune

All star wars, star trek (especially 2nd movie Wrath of Khan)

If I was to list only one it would have to be The Day The Earth Stood Still- the original 1951 version.

Closely after it would be:

Forbidden Planet

The Thing - Original 1951

2001: A Space Odyssey

Star Wars IV (A New Hope)

Avatar

That is the short list.

Love ya,

Sally

I've never seen this but I have a bunch of friends on another board who picked this as the worst movie ever. Even Sting's hot body couldn't save it. And they loved the books.

Now I'm confused because 1)I don't think Sting has a hot body and 2)the overall reviews on IMDB are like 6.5 out of 10. Don't know who to believe. But since I haven't come across it yet and it came out in '84 maybe I won't have to make that decision?

Mine is the movie "Splice". The two science geeks produce an alien clone that unbeknown to them is both male and female. (Why would this ever appeal to me? Giggle.) As the baby grows up through childhood to adolescence to a young apparently female, she gets more out of control. She seduces the male geek and this causes the first dangerous conflict and then with him out of the way she seduces the female geek and gets her pregnant. Cool stuff!

Hhmmm... maybe that's how I got here. LOL. Jody

Wow, where do I begin to comment?

Okay, B.S.G. was only a t.v. series, but come on. Yes, it was 'the bomb'. And the fact that a 'local girl made good' was one of the stars doesn't hurt!

Dune. Okay, maybe this well help a few of you: forget the De Laurentis nightmare and rent the Sci Fi channel version. Then, rent the Sci Fi sequel (Children of Dune.)

I mean wouldn't you love to see Susan Sarandon doing a sci fi flick? I'm referring to Children of Dune, by the way.

This was of course before Sci Fi became Sy Fy (Siffy?) and started airing wrestling.

Grrrr!!!!!!

Avatar. That would have been the fourth on my list, followed by Inception.

The Alien films. The first one was amazing but then it was Ridley Scott just prior to Blade Runner. As to the three others, there have been things that I loved and disliked about each of them. And if I may, I have always though that Alien-vs.-Predator was a nitwit notion, even when it was just a comic book. The movies only made it worse.

Jody. Okay, you owed me a laugh and a moment ago I was the one on the floor convulsing. Never heard of the film, but it is now a must see for me.

Star Trek. I'm ashamed to have to ask, but which one ended with the young guy and the young woman becoming one in a column of light? (And please don't tell Lacey Lynn that I had to ask as she admires my knowledge of all things Trek.)

Chrissy. Oh my. We seem to share not only a name but similar taste in this category.

Chrysee's/Chrissy's of the World Unite

Brazil. Wow, didn't see that coming. Terry Gilliam's the man! I do love his films.

Smart choice!!

Gotta Go, I've got Anunnaki religious freaks at my door. (I so hate it when they drag their kids along!)

I liked the movie Kim, it's so 80's and it's kinda an art form, it's the spice girl...., I'm glad this jarred a comment, the book was good

Just like Fantastic Voyage was so 60's....

I liked Dune as well but I enjoyed Dune 2000 (the remake mini series) much more... it just seemed more complete and more striking. Also I second the firefly series... still cant believe that got canceled after only one season, such a shame. Someone mentioned avatar to, I liked avatar but I liked it for different reasons, I think as a CG technical expose it shook the cinema world but I found the plot too weak and too "cookie cutter" to really be one of the greats. And of course alien and aliens were both awesome, by the way here is a bit of trivia... did you know that it was hinted that firefly takes place in the same universe as alien, predator, and prometheus? Its really just an easter egg from joss whedon but in the pilot episode of firefly the weyland yutani corporation logo is visible on some of the equipment :P

That would be the first, "Star Trek, The Movie." It was awesome to see the new and improved Enterprise and all the crew after so many years. But for me the film was a disappointment. Watching grass grow is more exciting than the action in that movie. "V-ger" Ugh! :P

I tried to watch the movie and I hated it. But I hadn't read the books. My freinds who read the books first liked the movie. I think there is something to that. The books may have been good and with them in your head you knew where things were going so the movie could be enjoyed. However without any idea of what was going on all you had was Sting, some psycho pulling plugs out of peoples chests and that wicked weird cat thing that when milked kept the brainiac guy alive. Otherwise I had no idea what was happening.

Well, lets see. I think the best way to tell if I loved a movie was if I made a costume for a convention.

First place has got to be Babylon Five. Five year series, several movies and a run of comic books. I made myself a Centauri costume, male, I was Prass Cotto, fourth cousin of Vir Cotto! YOu see, his fathers, fathers, fathers, father was my fathers, fathers, fathers. fathers brother! His star is rising and with it ours as well! I actualy had two differant costumes for this one. I started off with a green revolutionary war style jacket and black pirate pants. The second one was a royal blue long coat that looked much better and a better pair of pirate pants. I loved that outfit. The hair absorbed the first five shots of Klingon Blood Wine so I could keep up with the Clan that adopted me. Of course I had to drink until I was "one with my inner self". Such a burden.

Second place goes to Battlestar Galactica. I amde myself a Flight Deck Worker suit. YOu know, the orange jump suit with yellow reflective stripes down the side. I even got the right kind of underwear, boker breifs with that wife beater shirt. It worked great. At the time I had a bad limp from the kidneys not getting all the bad stuff out so I used a cane and it worked great.

Third place goes to Star Trek, I made a Klingon costume that was pretty good concidering I was broke. I had the latex head peice, long hair down the back and lots of brown makeup to blend it. The suit was made from light fabric and foam instead of leather and steel but it was easier to walk around all day.

I've also done a classic Adam West Batman outfit, met a guy dressed as the Joker and that was a fun weekend.

Ah, the days of being young and able to drink to excess....

Every time I see this topic I think I need to reply because I'm a lifelong sci-fi geek - I got hooked back in the "Forbidden Planet" "20,000 Leagues" days. But I just can't choose favorites because they are all so different. How to judge?

Guess I'll always be a Star Trek fan though some of the movies weren't great. I still liked most of them. Nemesis is my least favorite.

Thought Dune was off somehow-mostly Kyle MacLachlan's performance maybe? And speaking of bad-even the Queen music couldn't redeem Flash Gordon which wasn't really sci-fi anyway in my book. More pure camp

Just too many movies and each different -can't pick a favorite

Oh my Gosh! I completely forgot 20,000 Leagues. When I was five I used to cart a hardback copy of the book around with me as I was in love with the cover illustration. Then, of course, came the Disney film. Now I grew up on an island in the biggest Naval installation on the Eastern Seaboard and saw ships coming and going and soooo longed to ride in a sub. Here in Portland at the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry (OMSI) is tied up a sub that was used in the filming of The Hunt for Red October. Of course it's much more modern than anything that Vern ever conceived. A flat Zero on the Steampunk scale.

But still, boarding her after soo many years was marvellous.

There have been several 20,000 remakes and even with better film technology they were both dreadful. Hollywood's idea of 'steam' comes from putting a man and a woman together and bringing them to a boil. So each of the two remakes just had to add a girl for Ned Land and Nemo to go to daggers drawn over.

Well I'm sorry, but one thing that Welles and Verne shared was a thorough disinterest in writing about women. They saved their interest in women for those times when they weren't writing.

Both of them were prize pigs in that regard!

And if the movie moguls felt that love was lacking in the story. . .let's see.

There was Ned Land's love of the sea and Arronax's love of knowledge (which nearly caused him to exit the world permanently and sign on with Nemo ad infinitum. Countering Arronax's loss of sound judgement was Conseil's love of Arronax. And no there was nothing 'R' rated about it. Conseil was merely a devoted servant who so highly respected his boss and was willing to put everything on the line to haul him bank from the brink of insanity.

And then there's Nemo, who shared Land's love of the sea as well as Prof. Arronox's worship of knowledge. However, he was most in love with a sort of freedom that could only be found by creating (and ruling) a world of his own creation, far away from the madness above.

Whew! I know, I know. . .I talk too much.

Thanks Johnny, for the reminder.

With Love,

Chrysalis P. Sartorious

I have the Pierre by New York Toy Collective, I think I bought it from a different online store but it is that brand. The size recommendations will say that the four-inch shaft (the small Pierre) is for people 5' tall and under. I am 5'8" and it is fine for me. The larger (regular) Pierre shaft size is way too big to wear regularly, but it is a great packer to have around for gender affirming play at home. So even if you are taller than 5', if you aren't sure and you want something easy to wear, go with the small. It is a silicone packer.

Yes, resilient, for sure.  Ours were elementary/middle school age when their father died.  The girl took it really hard, losing her father.  My husband has been there as friend, counselor, and stepfather.  He was a dear friend of their father, and he has put in a lot of effort to raise them.  The eldest son is now his secretary, aide, and driver at work.   Since I'm young-ish and not their primary parent(s), I have the role of being an older friend to them.  They don't seem to have any issues with my gender.  I'm just Jen, and everybody knows that Jen is a little different.

If you're looking for a millennial female who might be interested, maybe contact Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? Y'all might have some things in common, and I think she and her partner are doing the "childless" thing.      Interesting that your wife did concrete work.  My GF spent some time laying concrete for her own projects....while 6 months pregnant.   She's a very stubborn girl.  Probably the exact opposite of the millennial female you're looking for, since she's a mother of 5 (and wished she could have more.)  Interesting how folks can have similar origins, but come to opposite conclusions.  My GF grew up in dire poverty, stealing to eat and take care of her little sister.  As a young adult, she spent several years living in a commune, and was a member of an armed communist political movement.  Now she's probably the most fervent anti-leftist, anti-government person you could ever find.  Experiences really shape who we are.    The lesson I draw from this is that globalism is not the right solution, and even the USA is too large a nation for everybody to agree.  Time to downsize voluntarily, before a civil war does it for us.  Some folks suggest that the USA could become between 4 and 7 different nations.  The way the world is going, I suspect you'll get your "depopulation" wish....but it will come about through war, plagues, and famine.

I made apple pies, since we have apple trees here.  A classic, simple recipe, everything made from scratch.  We can make just about any kind of pie here - pecan, apple, pear, peach, blackberry....    I think the 6-burner stove came from an old diner.  So, technically a restaurant stove, just a small one.  It probably came from an auction, as my partner usually has an eye for deals.    This stove has 8 burners:   https://www.lowes.com/pd/FORNO-48-in-4-32-cu-ft-2-26-cu-ft-Steam-cleaning-Double-Oven-Convection-Gas-Range-Stainless-steel/1003096398?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-app-_-ggl-_-PLA_APP_186_Cooking-_-1003096398-_-online-_-0-_-0&ds_rl=1286890&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj86BiPj3hQMVeTbUAR2m5wexEAQYASABEgI9tvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds   This one is the one I would love to have...it has 10:   https://www.lowes.com/pd/FORNO-Galiano-Gold-Professional-60-inch-Freestanding-Gas-Range/5013821825?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-app-_-ggl-_-PLA_APP_186_Cooking-_-5013821825-_-online-_-0-_-0&ds_rl=1286890&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj86BiPj3hQMVeTbUAR2m5wexEAQYDSABEgIt__D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Not to bump this up or anything, but I just want to put one more note on the end of this...   Thank you for allowing me to post this here and thank you for all who have responded.  This step has been a huge help to me on my political journey.  I've made several key decisions in the last few days that allow me to run a better campaign for the next 4 years.  I worked my way off of the streets 20 years ago by writing math and computer programming on paper.  10 years later I was able to buy a house with the software engineering work that I was doing.  Now 20 years after getting off of the streets and having two failed bids for US Representative and likely another failed bid in the next couple weeks, I've come to the point of selling my house to run a very frugal campaign for vice-president (it's a thing even though it is an appointed position) for the next 4 years, all on the money I have earned from that work I did on the streets.   My policy going forward is that I'm not going to ask for money and I'm not going to ask for people's votes.  The vice-presidency is an appointed position.  I'm also not going to run for legislative offices anymore.  I'm simply going to tour the country on my own dime looking for good people and a strong millennial female who sees my logic and would like to be president.   I have reached out to tens of thousands of people on my own dime in the last 7 years.  Famous people, ultra-famous people, business leaders, civil engineers, random people, news people, educators, unions, politicians.  I certainly got less than 5 emails from those efforts.  Actually, I only really remember one person.  He is an educator and we had a good Zoom meeting.   I'm not bitter.  I'm not complaining.  Those of you who have followed me on this site know I like to keep things positive and talk about cooking and living healthy.  I hope that this post doesn't get buried.  I think the title is strong and my message is clear.  I don't want to bog this site down with the details of the whole thing.  I simply want people to know that there is a transwoman working to be vice-president.  Notice that I didn't title this a-transwoman-as-us-respresentative.  My politics are executive level.  I'm a whistleblower, not a complainer.  I aim to educate and inspire.

Society is preserved by passing on proper roles for people, which works for the 90+ percent that it works for.   We were all taught from an early age that breaking out of the classification was a shameful thing, even when, actually, it is not.

I'm probably showing my age.  I haven't looked at a guest count in a long time.  Doing FB and staying off forums for a while.  Previous forum use had fewer bots if any and guests were actual people, mostly, unlike today.    Any AIs or bots struggling with GD are welcome.  I would love to read your introduction.

I've seen this on a lot of forums tbh. That's how a lot of content ends up on internet archives. You've got loads of bots scanning the site at all times and archiving it. Forums are actually nice (in comparison to social media) in that the guest count gives you a pretty good idea of how actively the site's content is being archived. Basically just don't post anything you don't want archived.

Kids are resiliant with therapy and strong support ;-)    They were all elementary age when their dad died and are teens now, and how they've grown and developed as young people, already, takes my breath away.   I'm working on communicating changes clearly and without shame, which is difficult basically all the time because of feeling guilty over doing gender "wrong" for so long. Working on that myself! <3

Allow me to add that people should think twice about posting pictures of themselves, with the facial recognition software that is out there.  Those in stealth or who are not fully out may discover they are suddenly and unwillingly fully out in ways they wish had not happened.

Funny how when i read the topic name i thought you were asking about the study of plants and animals.  I'm a bit into that as a farmer at va time when a cell phone makes plant  for insect identification easier than it has ever been.    Now on to your topic.  I don't farm in the nude.  I have wondered at whether i would skinny dip as i did as a kid without thought of how my body might affect others.  The effects of hormones makes me different from the average person and perhaps i'm "neither fish nor fowl".  I would certainly depend on who my fellow passengers on that cruise would be.   Hugs,   Charlize
