An interesting article by Abbie_S. In her post about shoes she also footnoted that when she isn't crossing she hasn't had a ciagarette in 16 yrs. But when she is Abbie_S she enjoys the look and feel of the cigarette being part of her look and feel.

An intresting point, the duality is manifested once again. Is it the emulation of the 1940's Better Davis, Barbara Stanwyck model that comes to mind or perhaps some women you knew personally and are using her as a role model?

Anyway I personally did the same back in the eighties, but quit smoking and Mia said goodby to Nicotine in 1987....................Any thoughts or reflections.........Curios,,,,,,,,Mia.

Smoking is not only an unhealthy habbit, but one that you will have to break before most doctors will perform SRS.

Nicotine retards the healing process along with the more talked about heart and lung issues!

I would find another way to appear more feminine.

Smoking - my parents did it for 37 years - killed my mother by giving her lung disease. SOOOOOO I am not too thrilled with cigarettes. I did smoke a pipe for 8 years when in my late 20s, early thirties. I thought it helped with my 'man' acting - but I also thought it looked cool.

I quit when I found out how addicted I was to tobacco - gave it up for lenten season, almost died waiting the 40 days until I could start again - hey - tobacco is EXTREMELY addictive.

My son says one in four of his classmates in college smoked while changing classes. He says smoking seemed to be 'the thing to do' or something.

I suppose youner girls smoking can look very sexy if they are doing it right, the feminine hand with that weed held just so. But look at older women and you see the deep lines in the face, tobacco stained fingers, and the despiration to light up for 30 seconds before they have to go somewhere they can't smoke. The sexiness is gone - gone - gone.

You younger Girls and Guys, if you want to look sexy: girls, unbutton you blouse a bit - guys use a sock in you pants. Don't start smoking if you picked up the habit, quit if you have.

You older girls and guys - hummmph - you know better.

Yeaaaa- old mature madame advice - no charge! Thank ya ma'am.

I live in town were I truly believe 75 percent of females over the age of 12 smoke, heavily. When I tell someone I have never smoked anything ever, people look at me as if I claimed to be from another planet. What is the allure that makes women feel more sexy and men feel like tough guys when they light up. Now that smoking is banned in clubs. I can go out and hear a musical act and not feel like I fought a forest fire and spending the next 24 hours sounding like I am catching the flu.

I have never smoked in my life, mainly thanks to a primary school teacher who was a pioneer in anti-smoking.

On one ocassion he convinced the whole class to go home and put pin holes in all their parent's cigarettes.

Both my parents smoked and boy did I get in trouble over that one.

In the movies of that era if you wanted to define a woman a one of little repute, a seductress, or 'working girl' just put a smoke in their hand. Not many women of that era did smoke publicly. I quit nearly a decade ago
