Couldn't find a topic on this, so I figured I'd start my own.

Anyway, Doctor Who is, in my opinion, one of the greatest shows on television. It has been around for fifty years, with only a few years when it went off the air. It follows the story of a time lord called The Doctor. Not Doctor Who, The Doctor. (I hate the dalek movies for screwing that up) Anyway, the Doctor is a time lord from gallifrey, and he travels throughout space and time in his TARDIS. The TARDIS is a time machine that looks like a british police box. The Chameleon Circuit that lets it blend in with the surroundings broke, causing it to be stuck looking like a police box.

The Doctor travels throughout the unverse and history, and usually ends of saving worlds and fighting monsters and aliens. He also almost always travels with a companion or two. They are usually humans from our time, but he has traveled with other time lords as well as a metal dog.

I started watching the show in 2005 when they started it up again. I have seen every episode since then, and have also gone back and watched several episodes of the classic series. The show has many fun, exciting, thrilling, and scary moments. It also has its fair share of emotional moments. I know I have cried several times, and most shows and movies can't make me do that. The revived series is currently on its seventh series, and will hopefully continue with many more.

I guess the main reason I made this thread was to see if I could find any more whovians, but hopefully this will also get people interested in the show. Its definitely worth checking out.

lol. I am a huge Doctor Who fan. I even have a friend who went as the Doctor to a Renaissance fair. XD I loved David Tennant, but I think I like Matt Smith's doctor a little more. But either way, it's an awesome show! I've been a fan since about 2007. (That's when we finally got BBC. lol)

I started watching the Doctor on the very first episode of his fourth regeneration - Tom Baker was the Doctor and for me he will always be the Doctor (much like Sean Connery is James Bond) Robot had very poor special effects and production values reflected the budget of the show but clever writing and Tom Baker's affable performance as the Doctor managed to captivate audiences for 7 seasons.

I love Doctor Tom Baker. Don't tell but I have my TARDIS stashed in the back of the shop. Giggle. I can't put it out front, a pink Police call box attracts too much attention. LOL! When I am fully transformed to a butterfly I am going to use it to find my home planet. Hug. JodyAnn

I know you discount the movies, but they were my first time introduction, back in the 60's, to The Doctor. I kept hearing about the TV show for years and years till the Tom Baker eps were run in American syndication. When a couple of local PBS stations started running them from the first "An Unearthly Child" to the Colin Baker Doctor (the sixth regeneration) I video taped them all, including the Paul McGann relaunch pilot (my wife ended up with the tapes in the divorce ). Now I've been watching the new series since the current relaunch with Eccleston to the curent eps, currently waiting with baited breath while munching on fish fingers and pudding for the Christmas Special (it makes me feel like "The Girl Who Waited").

So yeah, I'm a HUGE Who fan!

And I want to have permanent eyeliner like hers as well as those brows, Rose had THE best makeup of any companion.

Bow ties are cool, but dinosaurs on a space ship are coolerer (and any doctor of your choice is the coolest ever...well maybe not Peter Davidson).

You can see most of them with online streaming. I watch without commercial interruptions by using Firefox with adblock plus. Just pick a link with the gold star beside it and ignore "HD Sponsor" Tips from someone who loves old tv, but can barely stand the new.

Ah, fellow Whovians. I am home. I admit, I heard of Doctor Who growing up, but it wasn't until the revival in 2007(?) that I started watching it. While I'll always remember Chris Eccleston for being my first Doctor, and David Tennant for being my longest Doctor, I think my favorite is Matt Smith. I've now seen some of the old Doctor Who episodes, and he reminds me very strongly of Patrick Troughton's Second Doctor. I just love Smith's energy and enthusiasm, yet he's also very scary. I still miss Rose, though I hated Martha. Donna was his best mate, and I hated to see her go, especially the way she did. Amy and Rory took a while to warm up to, but once I did, I loved them dearly. Now I can't wait for Clara's run to start this Saturday (March 30th)!!! Oh, and I hope we have more River, though I fear her run might be ending soon, just for where they are in her timeline. Which would be absolutely horrid, because against all odds, she's grown on me and I love how she teases the Doctor.

Sorry, I'm a giant fanboy. And yes, bowties are cool.

David Tennant is the greatest Doctor! In my opinion he had the best scripts to work from, Russell T Davis to thank for that. Ten and Rose is my favourite storyline and I live Donna and Captain Jack... I miss them all to be honest

I liked the Tom baker ones as well, the newer ones are pretty good but as a whole I just have to be in a certain mood to sit down and binge on it.

I have mentioned this to other people in so many different forums and in person, if you really want to understand people and what is going on in the world you must avoid the news substituting for it science fiction and comedians.

Comedians will tell you exactly what is happening while trying to make you laugh about it and science fiction will convey some of the most amazing insights to the human condition.

The Doctor conveys both, there is always a good amount of humor in each Doctor, my favorites all seemed to have a special sort of twinkle in their eyes and a whimsical sense of the absurd, Tom Baker seemed to channel Harpo Marx at times while Christopher Eccleston at times reminded me of Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka with his sudden wide eyed stare as a solution came to mind but over all a much darker sense of the Doctor with all of his regrets following him from his former regenerations.

Which brings us to my current favorite, David Tennant, the sort of semi-rebellious adult who steadfastly refuses to admit that he is grown up while taking responsibility for absolutely everyone.

From these Characters, their companions and their enemies you can learn a lot about life.

In an episode of the 10th Doctor called "School Reunion" my favorite companion of all time was brought back along with K-9, Sarah Jane Smith (she started with Jon Pertwee and was a wonderful companion to Tom Baker - Netflix only has about 3 of her adventures with Baker although she was his companion for almost 3 of his 7 seasons) as he was dropping the gathered companions back into their own lives one of them asked Sarah if he always left his companions behind her reply explained first how painful it was for him to watch his companions grow old and die while he constantly regenerated then my favorite quote of all time, "Somethings are worth getting your heart broken for."

In my adaptation of Chris Carter's signature line for the X-Files, "The Truth Is Out There" just not on the news.

I loved how Tom Baker would step out of the TARDIS and be surrounded by men with guns, and calmly flip his yoyo and offer them a jelly baby. Without even batting an eyelash or blinking. I also love the 12 foot long scarf he had, I SOOO want one of my own. K9 was awesome too. By far he is my favorite companion.

PS, bit of trivia, TARDIS stands for "Time AS Relative Dimension In Space".

I remember Gilligan's Island after all the years they were shipwrecked their clothes never wore out and the other shows, Dr Who was a good show used to watch it on PBS Kinda miss it

HUGE Doctor Who fan since Tom Baker was The Doctor. Back then it was definatly NOT COOL, even among other sci-fi fans (The original Star Wars trilogy was still going on and ruled the world).

Still love it today. Was ecstatic when the show was resurrected. Tom is still my favorite, but I am also quite fond of Davidson (Take that Edina! ), Eccleston, and McGann (I think McGann and Eccleston could have been the greatest had they had more time). Don't get me wrong, I think Matt Smith and David Tennant are just awesome.

My favourite companion would have to be Nyssa - her story was tragic and she was so young (So was I at the time), but she was smart, cute, and could take care of herself.

Of course Sarah was probably the best! (So sad at Elisabeth Sladen's passing)

Ive been watching Dr Who since it began in black and white, when William Hartnell was the Doctor. My favourite Dr is David Tennant, who's a wonderful actor, did anyone see him play "Hamlet"? My son has often been mistaken for him as hes very much a lookalike!
