Size Matters

Hey all, how is everyone?

Anyway I know I haven't been on in a while again and I've been real busy with life and other things. Getting to the point I really want to start dressing now because now I can afford to buy some clothes since I got a job at Walmart in July as a maintenance associate. What I want to wear now is just some basic shirts and sweat pants along with some jeans and I may want to try on some leggings but I don't know what size to get. I just found out that I can wear a medium size shirt men's size that is and the smallest pair of jeans I've worn is a size 32x32. I can probably fit into a men's 30x30 jeans. What I'm asking is what are these sizes in women's size?

Any reply will be much appreciated ^_^

Hi Deandra,

My FTM son wears 30x30 jeans right now, and would be about a size 5 in junior's or a 6 in women's. The 32x32 I would guess to be about a women's size 10 or 12.

As I understand it the general rule of thumb is take your mens pants size and subract 20. But really, it all depends on your body type. That rule of thumb doesn't work at all for me. I have large hips so guy pants never fit me that well. I need to wear at least a 34 sometimes up to a 36 in mens pants, but my womens size is a 10.

You'll have to experiment a bit but you can use that as a baseline.

I too wear mens med shirts. womens large tops is proably a good starting point. my waist size is 27-28 ish and that elimanates me from the mens size range. I'm size 2 in gap jeans or a 4 in levis. with jeans odd #'s are jouniors and even sizes are misses. unless you are real young misses would most likely fit better. just get servral differnt sizes and go to the menns dressing room.

To be honest theres no simple math formula or anything for takin men's sizes to women's sizes because the pants are not the same shape.

A man's waist measurement is at the belly button.

A women's waist measurement is at her narrowest point of her midsection(usually a little north of the belly button)

So if you want to get a good ball park for men's sizes measure your waist at the widest part of your midsection(south of the belly button) and then measure the length from your crotch to your ankle ie. Waist 34 Length 32 = 34x32. I would also suggest a belt to help keep those pants up. hope that helps you.

Wish i could trade you my straight hips for your curvy ones :)

Sorry i was totally confused :D but that other post hepls girls find guy pants!

For guys trying to wear girl pants your best option is to try them on this is really the only way to go for pants because the sizin is not well controled from company to company. One companies size 7 could be a size 4 for another company. But what i do is grab a pair size them to myself then im about a 18 and i wear 36x34

Thank you for the replies everyone. :) I guess I'm going to have to go with what carolyn and tesa said: go grab a pair since sizes maybe different for each company then go into the men's dressing room. I may try the substracting 20 from the male size if that works. I'm just going to have to work up the courage to go into the women's clothing section.

you will find womans clothing are the hardest to go by the size some things I am size five in and have some things that are zero I have never understood why that is.I am to the point now that I will try every thing on now befor buying it that way I do not have so many returns and not just giving away what I cant where you I honesttly think you you should start at 10 and then go up or down from there.

I sneaked some woman's clothing into the male change room in my local department store the other day without them even knowing what I had was women's clothing. What I thought would fit me didn't and what I thought would not fit me did, I highly recommend you try whatever you want to buy on first particularly if the clothing is not of the stretchy type. You can't go wrong that way.

If your body frame is anything like mine you can be guaranteed that none of those sizing charts will work well for you. I fit into an extra small for skirts and need extra large for shirts! I might have a woman's mind but I sure as hell got a mans body.

Hey all again,

I just came back from sears and tried on a pair of ten sized pants and a medium pair of body fit pants and they both fit really great. So now I know which pants I can wear which is really, really great :D I also tried on a women's medium sized polo and a large on but the two were still kinda loose on me like the white mens t-shirts I usually wear. So what I wanna know now is that what kind of shirt I should wear if I wanted to show my figure or at least when it will look tight on me?

Might try a knited fabric top. Have about a half dozen and the fabric conforms to your body shape especially the breast area with padded bra or bra with inserts. Knited fabric seems to stretch some so might also try a smaller size than you normally wear.

Well I found a knit fabric shirt on amazon that comes in extra small so I may try that to see if it does the job. Thanks for your help :) Also how would I know that a certain shirt is knit fabric if I wanted to get it from the store?

Looking at the label might have fabric type on that. Also feel the fabric with your thumb and your index finger. Should be able to feel the weave of the fabric compaired to a finished fabric like polyester or silk. Linen is a weave fabric also but does not have as much strech. Could also place your hand inside one of the sleeves and spread your fingers and see if the fabric streches. I shop a lot at Burlington Coat Factory, they have a whole rack marked "knits" so easy to find that type of top. Some department stores may have a section marked "knits".

So if the shirt stretches a lot then it is a knit fabric?

So if the shirt stretches a lot then it is a knit fabric?

Yes I believe that would indicate a knit fabric. If unsure ask the sales associate.

Thank you, I'm glad to be here. :)   I have been in therapy for 9 years but still can't seem to accept myself. I think it has to do with growing up trans in a world that hates us, especially in the south. I mean I was discriminated against by adults and ostracized as a kid/teen due to being trans. My family is accepting, but the rest of the world is not. I realize now a lot of people are accepting (even unexpectedly, like my partner's conservative republican Trump-loving parents lol), but it feels like my brain is still in survival mode every time I exit the door. I am a very fearful person.   My body still may change over time, but it feels like I haven't met the same 'quota' (don't know the right word) that a majority of other trans guys have on far less time on T. Most trans guys pass easily 1-3yrs on T, I'm double that and still don't pass well except my voice.

Thank you. I am just used to seeing trans guys who pass at like... 6 months to 1 year, at the most 3 years. And I just don't meet the mark, all the way at 6 years. It is possible with time I will masculinize more, but it's frustrating when I'm "behind" and may never catch up. It threatens my mental health mostly, possibly my physical health if I'm visibly trans (though I don't ever go out alone).

Yeah, I am grieving the man I "should" have been. He will never exist, especially not in my youth. But I don't know how to healthily go about it instead of fixating on the life that could have been.

Sorry it took me a while to respond!    I would like to get to know you. :) I only have mental disabilities. Schizoaffective disorder, depression, and anxiety. The last two are severe and very treatment-resistant. I did have physical problems for some time, but it was caused by an antipsychotic medication (Invega). It basically crippled me, muscle weakness/fatigue, basically could barely walk (used mobility devices) and doctors were useless since they didn't suspect the medication I was on! I've finally ditched antipsychotics (hopefully for good, unless my symptoms come back). I usually don't share like this, especially in person, but hey, I'm anonymous. :)   I'm not expecting reciprocation at all btw, these things are personal. There is more to us than disabilities, so tell me about yourself if you still wanna talk!

thanks for the insight ... good to know things are being well thought-out ... it is no easy topic for sure, as many of us on here have been wrestling with this stuff for years and decades...

@KymmieLWOW! He is absolutely horrible! Definitely one of the worst boss's.

Well the boss is at it again. They misplaced a work order thinking I was the last one who had it, yesterday morning. I know where it is. Last thing I did with it was put it back on the counter. He accused me a couple times of having it last and put it somewhere. Come to find out, the other boss (his wife) had taken it. she put the work order paper in the recycle box.   Has he apologized about the accusations. He!! no. I am waiting for hadies to get frost bit.   So that was my morning.  But it is finally warming up here. currently 63 and windy.   Hugs, Kymmie

I am gender fluid, leaning heavily towards trans masc. My eldest is male and despite all the "stuff" we deal with with him (autism, speech delay, etc) I found him to be easy to raise. When my middle kid (female) was born, literally the first words out of my mouth were "I don't know how to raise a girl!" And I really felt I didn't know. She showed me. She's still showing me how to exist as comfortable and completely secure in her gender expression. It is entirely awe inspiring to see all three of them feel so settled in their bodies in ways that I never, ever felt or feel to this day.
    • Ashley0616
That sounded like an awesome opportunity to dress as your actual self. I have to say I'm a little jealous lol. I never got compliments from people and definitely haven't been kissed. I can imagine that part was still really nice and boosted your confidence.

I've been absent so much lately I feel as if I'll never catch up. Too much going on in our lives that's kept me away from the keyboard. and limited my time as "me."   I am so looking forward to your post on how you arrange your life. I know that I won't ever be able to fully transition so finding some happy balance is crucial for me.

Mae, you are so sweet for making this comment.   Desert Fox, you are so right.  I always knew that even though I was part-time, my motivation was way more complicated than a simple desire to wear women's clothes.   Your question is a timely one because in my next post, I am going to talk about how compartmentalized my life is, and the short answer is yes.  I have friends who only know Sally, friends who only my male persona, and a rare few that know both.
