I Got Taller?

Had a close friend tell me I got taller a few days ago...asked my mom if she thinks so, she said she was gonna tell me it looks like I got taller at the airport! (picked me up for winter break end of november). My dad agrees, my younger sister agrees...

I'm just hoping they're right and this trend continues :P

Just wanted to post about it because it was kinda exciting to hear :D

And I'm hoping to work on it once I get back to college, like work out at the gym over there more often and take vitamins and drink more milk and protein drinks at all...didn't even really do much of that for fall quarter and look what happens! haha.

Happy New Year MG! Congratulations on the height gain sir  Now I might be a little foggy here as it's been 30+ years since college biology but I seem to remember that Human Growth Hormone (HGH) can produce 'spurts' into the mid 20's. Then you bulk up into an adult until the 40's...and well you continue to grow but urulp it's sidways<<<ARGH>>>!!!!!! As you exit the 50's you start to shrink a bit each year as your bones 'settle' I was 6'1" in my 20's and at 56 am somewhat shorter (not much mind you) now. SOOoooOOoooo good news is...yep you ARE growing. *winks*Keep it growing, Kelly Ann

First of all: Congrats!

And then: yes, Kelly Ann ist right. Biology wasn't so long ago for me and it is true that especially biological women can have growth spurts till their mid to late 20's. We, as FTMs have the "benefit" (I wouldn't call it that, but hey...) that estrogen doesn't cause the epiphyseal plate (the growth plates, ofr example in our wrists, knees etc.) to close as fast as T does.

So, the E that most of us have to tolerate for 18 or more years makes it possible to grow late. I'm 5'7" now with which I'm not quite happy, but my doctor also told me I would probably grow till I was 21 or 22 and reach a final height between 5'9" and 5'11". But: If I start taking T, I'll probably turn out a lot shorter, because the T closes the epiphyseal plates.

Soemthing that's maybe good to know: Biological women grow like their fathers (in terms of final height and timing), biological men grow like their mothers - i.e.: Tall mothers have tall sons. Fathers who grow relatively late have daughters who grow relatively late. Doesn't work in all families, so just ask around a bit.

It's also possible to grow about one or max. two inches on T because it makes you develop more cartilage in your joints, especially the knee which may result in being taller, having bigger feet, bigger hands etc.

Well, I'm getting interested in this, Like Kelly Ann, I used to be 6'4", but I think I'm getting shorter - Yeah!

I've been female (in mind and spirit) for so much of my life that I didn't grow much until I was already in college - shortest guy in the class untill the sophmore year in colloge!

Glad that you are growing, since you want to be taller - it is a great thing! :D

If I started growing again - I'd have to raise the doorways!

Love ya,

Sally

Yeah everyone says that you grow until your early 20's but I don't ever see it actually happen....in Bio our professor also said most people are done growing by their late teens - early 20's, but she said that it's mainly guys who can start out really short in college and shoot up within the next few years. So I was getting kinda jealous there. lol

I didn't think it would be testosterone that makes your growth plates close faster since guys tend to continue to grow at a later age than girls do....but we didn't go into the hormonal stuff too much in bio so I'll take your word for it :P

It's funny because the whole first quarter of college I was comparing my height to other guys and wishing I could grow a few inches taller...ideally I'd like to be 5'9"-5'10" - around avg. male height :P...but i don't know how possible that is. Hopefully if I do all that stuff I say I'd like to do it will promote growth B)

I know it's hard to believe (I never beleived it either), but it is an effect T apparently has. Just compare it to: people on T have a higher bone density than people on E. And that is proven. ;)

So, growth... I think it's possible to grow a little from increased cartilage on T. Mostly, though, height is based on the long bones in your legs, etc. Those can continue to grow as long as the ephysisal plates (made of cartilage, otherwise known as 'growth plates') completely fuse. That can happen as early as 15 or as late as 22 or 23, depending on biological gender and genetics. I haven't read any case studies on it, but I think that taking a hormone blocker in your early/mid teens would delay that fusion, so you could grow quite a bit once you started HRT.

I was wondering, has anyone ever heard of FTM's taking Human Growth Hormone in addition to T, during their initial 3 or so years of transition? Not for height, but for increasing hand size, foot size, a more prominent brow ridge, and a larger jaw? My small, thin hands are really bothersome to me, and I'd really like to be able to wear men's size shoes (I'm a 7, which is nearly impossible to find... apparently bio-guys grow right through size 7 so quickly that they hardly bother to manufacture them).

In any case, I hope that you are actually growing, 'cause that would be totally awesome. I wish I could gain 2-3 inches. (I'm slightly under 5'6" and 5'8" or 5'9" would be nice).

I'd love to get a few more inches in height too. Sadly, I'm short (5'3" at best).

Well, then, Jackson..I guess that you and Squirt see eye to eye on most things? :P

(sorry, hon...couldn't resist it...it's that temptation thing...)

Love you.

Which is why I can't comprehend the concept of T closing your plates faster :P

I'm actually a women's 10...which I guess would be a men's 8?

Although at our school bookstore, women's 10 is too narrow, as is men's 8. Both make my feet feel like they're in a blood pressure cuff  so i ended up with a men's 9, which is a bit too wide. lol

If I can't switch bodies with a bio-male, it would at least be nice to switch with my roommate. She's 5'10" and women's 12 shoe size. Same height and shoe size as my dad :P

Funny, a few guys in college who say they're 5'8" - 5'9", I feel like they're the same height as me. But I stood back to back with one of them and he did look about an inch or two taller than me.

Though there's this other guy who's my age...he might even be a little older...and he's about 5'6"...he did a lot of gymnastics when he was younger :P It would be awesome if I'm taller than him now! haha.

I'm 5 feet, 1.5 inches tall but I round it up to 5'5" hahaha. I don't mind being short, I ended up taller than my mother and my birth father. I have pretty good sized hands and I wear a men's 10 shoe.

Oh, I'm wounded. :) Yeah, when he's up on his hind legs we really see eye to eye.

I also know bioguys shorter than I am. So I'm not too hurt about it. But still. Can't a guy dream?

In life, I feel like a giant. I work around women who are all 5'6" or shorter. I always comforted myself with, "Well, he's my height!"

I'm 5'10". I hope I grow a little bit. When I was little I said I would grow to 6' tall. I regretted it until I made this decision.

I have back problems from slouching to look the same height as everyone else, so karma has bitten me good.

Hey why not work on a height transplant - I could be the donor for several of you! :D

I'm about 6'4" if I ever stand up straight again and would really like to be about 5'6" so there's about 10" to spread around!

I have found that a lot of the women's shoes in my size - gunboat, narrow - have 4" to 6" heels! Why, I'd hit my head on every door!

Flats or Spikes with the accompanying headache? :o

What a choice! They don't have one for banging your head on the ceiling! :banghead:

Most of those "guests" are web bots from China, Indonesia, France etc. looking us over. They are mostly benign.  All they can see or gain access to are the general forums.  Members should be careful not to post anything that could readily identify themselves such as real names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. They do not have access to our gallery, blogs or private messenger. They seem to haunt all forums. Not just us.

Heck I didn't even know they could go up that high! I just have a four burner and one to keep stuff warm. What kind of pies did you make?

That's all the matters.   Well me and the wife rode to Perkins for breakfast. As we were waiting for our food. Being it is Sunday There are a few gentleman in suits, my guess from church. I think to myself. I hope I never have to wear one of those monkey suits ever again. Now a nice dress maybe.   Hugs,   Kymmie

From time to time I've looked at 'Who Is Online" and I have consistently noticed that members are ALWAYS outnumbered by Guests by a wide margin, sometimes, like a minute ago, by more than a 10:1 margin.  I have never seen that before on an internet forum.  It can be explained partly by the nature of what this is, that it draws the curious and they are certainly welcome to read here, and to join, but it leaves me with a feeling of being in a fishbowl.  I wonder who ARE these people?  Donald Trump, is that you? Biden? Sinwar? Putin?  We can only guess.

So from time to time my brain gets a hold of information and puts it together with other information in weird way that get me thinking. I was reading about a nudes cruise that they are running out if Miami. It got me thinking that a transgendered person who is also a naturalist, has to be one of the most unlucky people alive. How does one manage that and does that ever come up? Not trying to make fun here, just genuinely curious. Things that make you go hmmmm....

No luck there, really. She's getting a signing bonus plus a little extra that I don't think would cover much in the way of the move, but it is something!   Oh my! I am glad to hear you're not passing anymore blood. I hope they figure it out soon! How distressing!   @April Marie @KymmieL @Mirrabooka @Willow @Justine76, thank you for the kind words and thoughts! We told our best friends last night. There were many tears. Now it's all about the work: selling the house (my wife's friend's son said he may want to buy it direct!), a job (a former employee of mine wants to bring me over to his company--and they're based outside of Tacoma!), and moving (just started going through what we don't want bring and donating things). So things have kicked off.   I'm not so sure of the job, it would be good to work with my former employee (he's great) but I fear the culture may not be super welcoming to someone like me--and the guy doesn't know I'm trans in any way. But I'll give it a shot as my authentic self and see what happens!

@LadypcnjI'm sorry. I know the feeling my mom thinks I'm going through a phase too although I didn't come out till April 17, 2023, so it was later in life. I was in denial majority of my life. I would love to hear more about this if you are comfortable sharing more of it.

I love fashion. I have over 100 dresses and 74 pairs of shoes. My walk-in closet is full of other clothes as well. I'm getting more shorts soon. SHEIN is awesome for quality and price. Just when you get a leather coat from them it's just the shell not the liner. Most of my shoes are from Torrid because I wear size 13 women's.

Unfortunately Oklahoma is about as bad as Texas but definitely not as bad as Florida. Especially as a minor!

I'm sorry @Ladypcnj I can only sympathize with you on that. Therapist on the other hand is crazy. I have had 16 in 10 years. It sucks having to have to go over things. I will say though after 6 therapists I didn't have to explain my history they simply read the history.
