Well just this late afternoon I was replacing my girlfriends brakes and rotors ( no way I am paying insane labor charges) so she could get her car inspected. Everything was going ok with the back ones except for the hard to get off rusty rotors..grrrr..Got to the fronts and low and behold there was a special bracket that held the calipers. As fate would have it I did not have that size of socket handy. So off to the car parts store to get one. Here I am trying to get the correct sized socket. I am dressed in cargo jeans that have about zero feminine appeal( no way I am messing up my nice cloths) a teal colored hoodie and a ball cap. Not really much about my appearance screams female at this moment . Not to forget about all the black grime on my hands lower arms and pants and hoodie. Am looking pretty much like a standard grease monkey. Well one of the guys asks if I need help and I explain what I need but was unsure of the exact size as none of my sockets were big enough so all I could tell him was it was bigger then a 3/4 in socket. Well he was unsure what size I may need so he asks one of his fellow employees what he thinks well they start conversing back and forth . The first guys say ya she ( referring to me) needs the socket that fits the bracket on a 2010 jeep commander you happen to know what size it is. The other guy say let me see and he walks back to this row of sockets on the back wall. He then asks me ma'am you did say bigger then 3/4 in right to witch I say yes. they then converse a bit more with no less then 2 shes tossed in. The first guy brings me back two different sized sockets that he hoped would work. I say fine I will take them paid and left. While on my way back to finish the job I was thinking to myself darn girl If you are looking like a grease monkey and just walked into a pretty much male dominated store and was seen as female even though not much of anything about you screamed female I thinks I may have just made it full circle...Just though I would share this amazing thing that happened to me today with you all. Amazing in that even as a grease monkey I was seen as a woman ..doing the happy dance...lol

Love that feeling when it just happens even when you are not presenting one way or another. More validating than anything else for me.

And yeah-pretty much think it means you're there Mam

Megan, post a pic of you in that outfit in your gallery. That is my style too, so I can't wait to see it. I still get "Sir" most times. :doh1:

Just a tip from one wrench bending girl to another, grease on my pink fingernails is so sexy and affirming. Giggle.

I'll give you a hug when you change that grimy shirt. Jody

My poor camera can only handle taking a pic of me once in awhile. Do not want to break it...lol..anywho not sure I would desire to see a pic of me looking like a grease monkey. I rarely paint my nails as its like impossible to keep them nice. I just do to much stuff. Best time to keep them nice is winter time.

Well allrighty then,,, no pic  Tip two: I like my nails battered too, it keeps the boys really confused. They tend to keep their distance and I have much more room to work! Giggle.

Keep doing the happy dance! JodyAnn

true the fish is nice not so sure about me though....lol

Oh pish posh, you look awesome in the picture... :P (and that is quite an impressive fish, BTW)

As far as the rest of the topic and your question is concerned, I believe Im in (or near at least) the territory of male-fail right now. I have to wear an unflattering uniform (not that theres much to flatter), and since I havent come-out at work yet (well not completely... but we'll leave that for another topic), I present male (in regards to clothing only, as my manurisms and voice are feminine), and lately since its been cold here, Ive been wearing "beanie" style hats that cover up my male length hair. Well, part of my job consists of checking in/out and inspecting chemical deliveries, and for the past couple weeks, about 3/4ths of the time the drivers have been using female pronouns for me. Now, I dont wear make-up, wig, perfume, or anything feminine, but my facial features have apparently been getting softer/rounder, and that, along with the voice/manurisms (which Ive been using since September and have gotten no female pronouns said to me until the last few weeks), I suppose is causing this reaction from drivers. Its also happened a few times at stores/gas stations recently, while in "boy-mode" (basically when Im lazy and Ive just woken-up... 90% of the time Im enfem everywhere but work).

While these reactions do feel somewhat odd to me (because I dont see that my face is much different), they also feel completely wonderful, in that, it seems people are finally seeing the person that I truly am, and are comfirming that they are by using the right pronouns. I just hope this continues (or improves/becomes-more-frequent hopefully) after I can actually start HRT.

(A picture of "Work-me" in boy-mode can be found here: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y446/Julie_Mason_520/workclothes1.jpg please dont be too harsh on it  )

Wow, I just saw this cute girl down at the receiving office with knockout blue eyes! You should check with the dispatcher to see if you can get a run to the chemical plant. I just wanted to tell you . Yea, it's Jody. Later.

I had some experience in this type of situation. So this morning I went to go work out it was pretty cold, workout with a bunch of other CIS women in my training program. Noone knows anything about me except I not the only strong girl out there. ( hrt 3/4 yrs) and I am not wearing any makeup. I was only wearing loose this sweat pants a loose fired guys shirt with sports bra. So yet not feminish like today compare to the other days.

anyways I also had to go and get my old change done. Keep in mind I'm not wearing makeup, hair in ponytail, and same workout clothes. To them I'm still a women.

Also had to go to the out parts store for prices on wheel bearing/ Hub assembly. Still wearing the something. Also was carrying my girl wallet. I am still approach a ma'am. ( Still no makeup) he was also glad to hear I know my motor size lol. Yes I do. I used to work on cars before I became a hair dresser lol. I didn't tell him that tho .

Also it has come to my attention that I used to keep up with my car before I started hrt then it was no longer an interest in mind except for wanting mor clothes now lol. My car used to be clean now its messy. Yup I'm a girl alright lol

I want to hold back on this one until more solid information comes out.  The defendant is claiming it was accidental, but the Trans side is demanding a hate crime scenario which an accident would preclude.  Pardon the phrase, but as I read this folks are jumping the gun here.

Well, here's the big questions:  What does it mean to be masculine?  What does it mean to be a woman?    I've been around a lot of rule-bending in those areas.  There's all sorts of "traditional" views about what men and women do.  Men work on mechanical things, defend/protect, earn a living, play rough sports, etc.  Women cook and clean, are gentle and nurturing, value aesthetics over function, etc.   Yet, my very "masculine" industrial-manager husband cooks just as well as any Betty Crocker wannabe, and tells the bedtime stories that are most in-demand by the kids.  My GF, who is surely "ALL Girl" is a highly skilled mechanic, a street racer, was busily laying concrete while 6 months pregnant, and practices kenjutsu (Japanese sword fighting skills).  And me?  I'm AFAB but I'm infertile and I feel like I should have had a male body...yet I possess very little in the way of "manly" skills or desire to acquire them.  I'm in my boy form these days, but pretty much useless for accomplishing "boy stuff."     I think my family blew those definitions out of the water.  Yet, somehow our family structure is also religiously patriarchal....and happily so!  It'll bend your brain to try to figure that one out.    I'd say its just important to be you, do what you do best, and stick your tongue out at anybody who doesn't like it.

Welcome to the board gizgizgizzie! I sure can understand what dysphoria feels like. I found it stayed in my head during nearly all waking hours. Although, sometimes held in a little deeper. But it was triggered easily. I hope you can find that place you feel comfortable with yourself. This is a good place to find help as you traverse your journey.   Jennifer

hi everyone, my name is giz (or gizzie), i use all prns but i prefer they/it and i just found out abt this place pretty recently !! im really excited to find community among other trans people from so many walks of life !! in my personal life, i do have trans/queer friends but its not easy to navigate that without coming out all willy nilly (and i can't come out to my family, pretty much ever) so this is a pretty good place for me to get to know people and make new friends !!   i also have this weird dysphoria issue that i feel like everyone (and society at large lol) is attaching me to categories and boxes that don't really fit me (obviously this is to do with my agab) so being here without that presentation is also really helpful !!   i also hope to be able to start and share my transitions goals and things like that (just getting my body to a more androgynous look) !!   thanks for reading, and i hope to see more of y'all soon !!

Well, my friends are out publicly. Openly transgender, and on HRT.  I agree that the survival of all of us is at stake.  But I think there are threats greater and more dangerous than those faced exclusively by LGBTQ folks.   Rising prices. Unaffordable food.  EPA strangling transportation and energy.  Needless foreign wars that put us at risk of literal nuclear annihilation.  A government that wants to tax us, track us, and control every aspect of our lives...including using us as guinea pigs for their medical experiments.     Trump is no savior.  Neither is the Republican party.  But I believe that a vote for Democrats in the federal government is for sure a vote for globalism and what follows it.  War, famine, plague, slavery, and death don't care if we're trans or cis.

People who are out publicly, and openly transgender, maybe on HRT, having changed names and gender, have a lot to lose if anti-trans politicians take power.  They have openly called for our eradication, and promise to do everything they can to accomplish this.  (again, 2025) For someone in this position the election is about our survival.  It's foolish to delude ourselves into thinking "Oh, they don't really mean that.  It's all for show," or, "There's other more important things to concern ourselves with." Maybe for some people the other things take priority.  But if you have skin in the game, things look different.

If that happens, a lot of things I don't want to see might also be codified into law.  And some things that shouldn't be law might not get repealed.  To me, progress in one area isn't worth the price we'd have to pay in several other areas.     For me, voting on LGBTQ issues always ends up as an "out of the frying pan, but into the fire" sort of event.

Trying out a new wig. Got my reading glasses on. I've also got dark roots now - first time in years.

Thea, your post made me think of a comic named Chloe Petts whom I saw recently on Hannah Gadsby's Gender Agenda comedy special on Netflix. She is a cisgender masculine lesbian. She is brilliant and so funny. I was intrigued by her identification - specifically masculine, not butch. And it seems to me there is a difference.

Today I had a dr appt. When I checked in, I was asked my surname, which I gave. Apparently there were two patients with appointments at that time with that same surname. The receptionist asked, "Are you (my legal name which is feminine) or Paul?" I got such a kick out of it not being assumed I had the feminine name.
