Why was South Park able to make a mockery of trans women

Hey! I find Mr/Mrs Garrison to be funny! Yes, me and my non-trans friends love to joke and make fun of my own transition, all in good fun.

if they would only target transwoman than yes I would say somehing wrong there but they target about everything so

I don't think it's so bad.

I use to love South Park but quit watching the show many years ago. I do not remember what episode it was, but I felt it crossed the line in being funny and moved into the realm of being derogarity. I have not show again.

If you really want to " put them in their place " do as I did. I emailed all the companies that I had seen ads for during the show and calmly explained to them what I found offensive about the show. Then I explained that I would not be buying their product so long as they supported the show by advertising during it. South Park is still on air, but I was able to have my say and not support something I no longer felt was right. If enough people would do this then the show would no longer be on the air.

As far as it being "Ok" because they make fun of everybody?? NO WAY!! If I use derogarity terms to describe all races that still would not make it right. Hate speech is still hate speech. That is my feeling on the matter...

Hugs,

Nicole

I actually see South Park as a satire. They go absolutely crazy on everything to show just how crazy society is on a whole. I haven't seen any super recent episodes but I still love the show.

I'll chime in with those who commented that south park pretty much makes satire of everyone.

And I will note that I seen one or another trans trans person doing or acting in most every way the show has depicted a trans person. They aren't having to make stuff up. While such may not depict the typical trans, like with any group, it becomes good fodder for satire.

It also seems to me, with Mr/Mrs Garrison character, is bassically accepted by the other characters.

I'm not sure it's possible to tell a joke without at least someone getting offended.

I'm more concerned for people who allow their self-worth to be influenced from South Park.

South Park rates with Springer as far as I'm concerned. It's trash, and it will not ever be watched in this house, at least not with my knowledge or consent.

Most TV is mindless trash and mostly a waste of time (IMHO), there is so much more to do in life, get out there, exercise, read a book, be with friends, anything but TV really, real life awaits.......

I don't watch South Park, but I've seen bits and pieces. They do a pretty good job of skewering just about everyone and every institution, at one point or another. I am certain that everyone so skewered is equally offended.

Sadly, satire as an art form seems a lost cause these days. Skins have become way too thin. Mel Brooks would not be able to make a living in today's world.

True :P I actually don't watch much TV, but what I do watch is generally mindless as well. At least it isn't obscene.

I hardly find South Park that offensive. It really is trashy.

However I am offended by the trans bashing on main tv shows like Family guy. That's much worse.

South Park is actually one of my favorite shows, a lot of episodes show what kind of stuff is going on at the time. Like others that responded I agree that they make fun of society as a whole, and transgender people are also a part of that society. The show let's people know trans people are out there, in kind of a messed up way, but that's South Park for ya...

I really don't think that's a good idea. The unity of the LGB and T community is historic and has been central for both groups rights. And the vast majority of people advocating for splitting the two are transphobic LGB's who are broadly condemned by the community anyway.

A bit late in updating, but I've had the draft of the official diagnosis and have (as yet unconfirmed) an endo consultation next month.   Next to arrive will be the supporting documentation for my new passport application for my correct gender.  This will then be my official ID for all the other updates - bank, tax, payroll etc.   It just feels good to to be proactive again rather than waiting for other people to move at a leisurely pace.

I like ELF brand cosmetics, I can pick them up at JC Penny.    I wear makeup everyday, but mostly just very light makeup.

Hi Mae Be, whenever it comes to makeup, there are so many different bands to choose from. Picking out the right makeup comes with trial and error, until you find one that works for you and blends well with your skin tone, some makeup products can leave the skin feeling oily. It's a good idea to look at the labels on the makeup product to know what the creators put in the makeup, just in case skin allergies. Once you found the makeup brand, you can add it to your shopping list, good luck

To be fair I’m pretty lost when it comes to makeup technique. I’ve watched videos, but I have no idea what works for or would help my features. So I just bungle along, hoping I don’t look terrible.
