Well I'm a big fan of the Sim City franchise never got to play the original was a little before my time, but I did played SimCity 2000 and every one since!

Well the new SimCity is releasing for PC here in a few days, and with it having heavy multiplayer features I was wondering if anyone else around here was planning or thinking of picking this one up? Looks like it could be fun sharing a region to build cities in. :D

Hey Sarah,

I too am a huge SimCity fan, hate to say it tho but I do remember the original and have played every one since, my fav is still SimCity3000. I am definitely going to be getting this newest one, not going to be able to get it on release day and not sure how long till I do get it but you can bet all your makeup I am going to be getting it hehe.

Love knowing I am not the only nerd who loves city building games hehe. My fav is still Pharaoh but I have a thing for ancient Egypt.

SimCity is probably one of my favorite games of all time! SimCity 3000 is my favorite as well but it was also fun building a town in SimCity 2000 and then drive around in it in Streets of SimCity (if anyone else played that game lol).

I hope to get the new one shortly after its released. I have a friend who was in the beta and it looked REALLY cool!

I did play the very first original sim city! Your remarks though SarahB make me feel old "the original was a little before my time". My primary school had the opurtunity to get enough IBM compatibles for one one month a year every year for a whole class of kids. I managed to get a cheat code to get as much money as I wanted, I will never forget the reaction when my male teacher (who I suspect was also at the time a sim city tragic) utter shock when he saw the entire map covered in Nuclear power plants LOL. He pestered me relentlessy for weeks after that wanting to know how?

An online simcity trans community? Sounds like fun! If I get around to purchasing the game I will be sure to get in touch.

Kattja I loved the Pharaoh games, but my favorite from that line of games was actually Zeus: Master of Olympus it combined my love of city sims, and my love of greek mythology! I've been playing Tropico 3 and 4 to get by on the city building front the last few years.

Brenna, I do not remember streets of sim city, but I do remember Sim Copter! Maxis made alot of crazy games back then, and I do own most of them, infact I have a huge Sims addiction even though thats not maxis anymore.

Sarah, the original came out in 1989, I was 5... lol I never owned an Amiga! My first real video game was Star Wars: Tie Fighter for the PC an Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, followed by Sim City 2000. Those three games really got me hooked on gaming! I was actually reallllly awful at Sim City 2000 though lol!

Well, I'd love to play with all of you when you get ahold of the game just let me know! :)

Been playing Civilization4 with a forum member for a few days. Love it!

As for sim city2000, and pharoh etc. I do like them, but I feel like a phorah myself wondering if my tomb will be built before I kick the bucket.

I've never played SimCity, but I *have* played the Sims expansions - a lovely place where my waist is smaller, my hips are slim and my bustline is ....um..."less aggressive" than it is now...*sigh*

I've never played online, though. I've seen way too many CNN shows about Second Life issues...lol

The problem with second life and other RPGs is there is no endpoint. Combine compulsion, addiction and no endpoint and it can ruin a persons life.

A full game of civ4 internet multiplayer has been taking about 7 hours. An easy commitment that can be saved and resumed etc.

Heroes 3 Internet multiplayer (an older game) could take up to 18 hours for multiplayer.

When you get away from a set endpoint games get dicey.

There is a MUD I have been playing since 1995 called Gemstone 4, it takes discipline to not get sucked in for too large of a commitment.

Age is just a number hon! Like I said I feel like I'm 28 going on 20 lol I'm in way better health now than I was at 20 so I actually feel younger than I did then lol.

I.. LOVE The Sims! :D One of the games that helped me get through the last decade or so.

Second Life is a... very odd game and online community. Don't get me wrong alot of online communities associated with games are pretty awful but that one is just different because there simply arent any other games like it. I don't play second life because it's barely a game and more of a creation engine. It's also loaded with a lot of people I'd rather not associate with lol.

SimCity's multiplayer will allow you to yeah play with random people, but you can also set the Region you are building in to Private. Meaning random people cant come and start a city in your Region, only people you invite can join you. :) Which is why I asked if anyone is planning on playing! :D

I want to get this .. but I can't afford it , so as soon as I get funds i could see myself buying this

Well, I prepaid for my copy awhile ago soo I'll definitely have it. If ya do get it and want to share a region just PM me and I'll let ya know my origin info so you could friend me :)

I've been playing World of Warcraft since it first went into closed beta in 2004, and yeah I have seen A LOT of people get way too addicted to the game. The thing is they design the games to keep you playing (obviously), there is always a carrot to be working towards for more stuff to show off with. My cousin is actually fairly addicted but shes been getting better about it the last few years. I've seen other MMOs do things like that too, one of my friends when I was still living in Arizona lost her husband to MMO addiction, he was way more interested in playing Everquest than paying any attention to her at all. Even after she ultimately left him over it, he ended up being a roommate with another close friend of mine and by then he was doing the same with but with World of Warcraft instead. He wouldn't even leave his desk to eat! He had a George Forman grill at his desk and he would cook and play... MMO's like all things should be played in moderation!

I think part of the problem of online addiction to RPGs is that many people connect their in game achievements to their self worth.

Well aside from a semi-painful launch, because you know these big companies never seem to learn about launching online games, this game is actually a lot of fun! I'm impressed by the game play, its complex and challenging but at the same time alot of the annoyances from the previous games have been streamlined. It's also ALOT of fun to be sharing a region with friends and working towards common goals!

My biggest issue has been as I said the stability of the launch, my friend couldn't even play the whole first day due to some error in origin and the servers have been very up and down, It's getting better though!

The screen shots I have seen look fantastic, and yes I noted the rocky launch. I'm not too befronted by the continous internet requirments, but it's the actual implementation of these protocols.

Yeah, I can understand that. It has been a pain but things are getting pretty stable now. I have to say I'm pretty addicted to the gameplay been playing with some friends for about a week now.

Always Online is kind of a pain and its a bit of a disturbing trend, but it seems to be getting more and more common all the time.

From what i have seen in commercials is the new Sim City game does look nice. I personally still own all the Sim Cities and enjoyed them all. Also was a fan of the age of empire and command and conquer games as well. Not sure if I will get the new Sim City or not as there is just to much cute cloths calling my name...hehe..

I don't wear a bra to bed.  The girls aren't big enough to need it, but still enough to appreciate.  Just a flannel nightgown suits me fine.

Yeah, that is the point.  And of course they can be proud of themselves for saving humanity.   Yeah.  That would be scary.  I'd find a bush somewhere like our GOP governor candidate recommends.  So far I've gotten away with the women's.  I've been told I pass better than I realize.  But it would only take one a55h0le.   This is all so stupid.  I mean, who gets off on hanging out in a bathroom?
    • Ashley0616
Oh yes. It was not fun cleaning it up but he is better.

As I read this one, it is only for school bathrooms.  I hope he has signed a bill to triple the number of "security monitors" on the campuses and up their pay considerably, not to mention some other costly stuff.  Only way is for every school employee, to know the birth certificate information of each student by memory which will require 3 additional months of salary for them all.  It appears the enforcement relies on parental reports obtained from their children which opens so much up.  The kids will end up ALL with wet or soiled underwear while the parents go at each other with weapons over "family honor" over false calls based on childish name calling.

I agree. This law is impractical and impossible to evenly enforce without such ridiculous measures in place. What it will do is stigmatize the trans community in Oklahoma and nothing more but ofc, that’s the only point of it.   If I was in that state and needed a restroom, there’s no chance I’d ever step foot in the men’s restroom because of some law. I know I’m not alone in that thinking. This law won’t stand the test of time.

I asked AI to create an image of myself 30 years younger based off my avatar on another site and this was the result:     Wow! I am amazed how close it got my 30 year old face!

Quite true.  The amusing thing about opposites is how similar they can be.   My family left Greece because of the conflict between the communists and the militarists/fascists.
