Well, hello!

I never know how much or how little to put in an introduction post. I don't want to write a biography, but I suppose I should be detailed enough to give you all an idea of who I am. Well here goes.

Like many of us, some of my earliest memories are GD related. I loved playing dress-up with my sister and her friends. Played with dolls, let them put makeup on me. Happy happy memories. Then the pressures of society converged and that behavior became unacceptable.

Fast-forward through years of substance abuse, self-destructive behavior, suicidal ideations. Two marriages, three children, a career in the navy. I tried everything to try to bury who I knew I really was.

About a year ago, after splitting with my second ex, I was again on the verge of giving up. I hadn't bothered to go to work for a week. I was drinking liquor like it was water. I spent whole evenings standing at the window of my 12th floor apartment wondering why I should bother living another day.

Luckily there was still a rational, lucid part of my brain functioning. I decided that I wanted to live, but on my own terms for a change.

Today, I am much happier than I can ever remember. I have the support of my immediate family, which is still quite surreal to me. I have made a few new friends in the community. I've come out to a couple of my friends and coworkers, and they are also supportive. I've been seeing a GT for several months, and yesterday she faxed my HRT letter to my Internalist. I'm heading over there shortly.

That's about it for now. Maybe I'll go into more detail about my life some day, but for now it bothers me thinking about how much time I wasted trying to be who people expected me to be instead of who I am.
