Weight Watchers

I have been able to lose weight in the past, but couldn't sustain it. I lost 50 pounds in four months, only to gain it back over time.

II started using the etools for WW a few weeks ago, but it doesn't seem to be enough to keep me motivated and on track. So...

I am going to my first meeting of WW tonight. I can go to this meeting for free to see what it's about. Tonight is for people who need to lose 50+ pounds (when I first saw this listed I thought it was for members 50+ years of age). I would like to lose 70-75 pounds. I'm going to need to lose the weight for surgery. I'm hoping the group meetings will keep me motivated and inspired, or it won't be worth the cost ($52/month). I would be allowed to attend any meeting, and go as often as I need. It's not just for the support, but also having a place to go instead of doing things I shouldn't. Plus the place I would go for meetings just happens to be the main office, and therefore has at least a few meetings every day. It also happens to be one mile from my house, and located next to Sprouts, and close to Trader Joe's (my two favorite places to shop for groceries).

It may be costly, but if it works it will be worth it. And if my new lifestyle becomes a habit, and that I won't be in fear of backsliding, I won't need to keep going.

Thanks Jenny and please give us a report after your meeting.

Do you know if WW supports any gluten free foods. That is one of the problems we are having in finding a program.

One of the great things about WW is that you can eat anything you want. It's based on a point system based on the protein, fat, and carbohydrates in your food. They even have point systems for the food in many major restaurants. They have an app where you can use the camera on your phone to scan a product at the store, and it will give you the point value/serving. Plus exercises increase the number of points you can use for that week.

I got back from WW and joined. I was going to join anyway, at least for a month or two. I already found a friend and was talking to a few women there. There were about 40 women and 2 men in the the group. One cool thing is that if I get down to my ideal weight I receive a lifetime membership. Plus since I like to talk the desk clerk told me I was the kind of personality type to be in a leadership position.

So yeah, I enjoyed myself, and made a new friend in the process. I also like the sessions are only 1/2 hour long, and that I can go grocery shopping next door when I'm done.

That's wonderful Jenny! :) My friends Mom lost a bunch of weight through weight watchers back in Arizona, its actually partially what inspired the caloric system I use for my self. You should be able to reach your goals using the weight watchers system you just need to stay motivated hon! You'll get there. ;)

I was looking through one of the WW books the other day and I was happy to see that most fruits and veggies were no/low points. So eat all the fruits and veggies you can handle! :D

I do! :D :D

This is beginning to really work, and the key is attending class. It's not only the positive reinforcement, but also the accountability. You weigh in right before class, and receive rewards for the amount, or percentage you lose.

By keeping track of everything I eat, I'm really learning what to limit or avoid. There are foods at restaurants that are far better choices than others. For example, eating a hamburger from In-N-Out I can choose to eat the sandwich protein style. That's where you substitute lettuce for the bun. And then substitute ketchup and mustard for the special sauce. That shaves off a few points. I learned mayo is very high in calories.

I'm almost cooking all my food now (made some delicious zucchini pancakes recently), and I'm exercising more regularly. I realized this morning that I turned the corner of living with bad health. I realized I felt wonderful physically, and definitely not as depressed.

One last thing I learned. When you have an intense cardio workout, it may not be the most pleasant feeling at the time, but the rewards come. Today I feel far more refreshed and alert. And something's happened in my mind where I feel more willing and able to take on the world. I compare that to when I drank heavily. I got that instant pleasure of feeling intoxicated, but later I felt miserable physically, emotionally, and mentally. You get a feeling of failure because you gained weight, have a feeling of lack of control, and depression.

It didn't take long to get moving in the right direction. I just had to have enough desire to change, and take action to make it happen. I lost weight before, but this time I'm going to do it the right way, and accept the help of others instead of relying on my own emotions and willpower. I could lose weight in the short run, but without a foundation, it will never last.

With Love,

Jenny

That's great Jenny. It seems to me that the real key is finding what works for you and doing it. For may WW is great. as an introvert who can't endure boundaries except those I impose on myself it doesn't work for me nut works wonders for others. There are good reasons it has been around so long.

Gaining that real control at last DOES feel fantastic. And I can tell from your attitude and approach you'll not only reach your goal but keep it off.

Hugs

I loved Weight Watchers and lost over twenty pounds on it. I am currently not doing it but am seriously thinking of getting back on it.

We use the WW360 online and it has really helped us.. just in the aspect of monitoring how and what we eat.. I have lost a total of 40 pounds so far.(Since Christmas) and I keep seeing it drop off.. Once you just get in the habit/routine it is fairly easy to keep on track.. Not that I don't go out and splurge every once in awhile (Usually Sushi or a Hamburger) But what I like about WW is its all about Moderation not starving yourself.. I am allotted 40 points a day and I never use all of that..

Even so I did put a on a few pounds the last few weeks but I have finally become a NON Smoker so it was worth the trade off.

Nothing makes you feel better then having to go buy new jeans because you size 20s are falling off even with a belt.. down to a 16 now. Just hope more belly goes away. I am just ecstatic now my boobs now stick out further then my tummy. At least my blouses can hang freely and hide it.

I am an evangelical  I am also transgender.  This is an issue. I have read up on it.  I am not an expert, but I have done a lot of reading.   One thing I do not get about people who take that position is that evangelicals are all about salvation by faith alone by Christ alone by grace alone - unless you are transgender.  Then you cannot be saved, these say, unless you do the work of un-transgendering yourself.  Which is, practically, impossible.  I have read the "solutions" and I don't buy them, obviously, because they do not work.    In evangelicalism salvation is by faith alone, Christ alone, grace alone, without any merit of our own.  That means, to an evangelical, we come to Christ as we are,  in the words of a glorious hymn,   1 Just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me, and that thou bidd'st me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   2 Just as I am, and waiting not to rid my soul of one dark blot, to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   3 Just as I am, though tossed about with many a conflict, many a doubt, fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   4 Just as I am, thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; because thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   We do not clean ourselves up BEFORE we come to Christ.  We let Him clean us up AFTER we come to Him.    Those who insist that transgender people cannot be saved are actually preaching another Gospel, a Gospel of works, and have wandered away from the glorious Gospel into works.  That is strong but true.   Struggling with legalism and grace, I have found more of God's mercy and grace available to me because I struggle with being transgender and seeking His resolution of it.  Which, not having the struggle, I would not have needed to seek Him earnestly on this.

Eventually, (especially if you start T,) things will even out. The excitement you feel is from everything being so new. Finally knowing yourself and having others recognise you can be thrilling. However, because it is your natural state of being, eventually that wears off. There's nothing exciting about it anymore because it's "just you." (Which is a perfect thing to be!) This, however, can lead to disappointment. Trust me when I say however, that that disappointment and jarring reaction to wrong pronouns will go away, and you'll once again feel comfortable in yourself.

I love long hair. I'm wanting my hair to touch the floor. I guess we shall see how long it can get.

I wear a wig most of the time.  But I can get by with my natural (shoulder length) hair if I wear a hat or something to cover the mostly empty top. Unfortunately that train has left the station, sigh.

Oddly enough, just this weekend I read some of my poetry at a local event.  In this case it was a Pride group so I didn't have a particular advantage.  But I have read in more inclusive (of cis people) situations, and been fairly well received.  Let's face it, cis people do deserve an equal chance.   I suppose this might be a problem in the future.
    • Ivy
Of course we do.  The few friends I do have are almost exclusively cis or trans women. I think I could have a relationship with a man, but he would be kinda "other" to me.  Could be interesting though. I never have understood guys - even when I was trying to be one.
