Don't be so critical of yourself

Trans folks are not the only ones who view themselves too critically. Other people do too. This video has a forensic artist doing sketches of people based on their own perception of themselves and then another sketch based on the perceptions of people who had just met that person. People see others much more positively than we believe about ourselves, and this is not just of trans folk but of everyone. I hope everyone here can take away good positive thoughts from this, particularly about yourself.

Thanks for sharing that Liz! I know that I'm way more critical of my self then others are, I nit pick about stuff that when I point them out to other people they look at me like I'm insane and ask what I'm even talking about.

Awww that was sweet. I feel like that sometimes, that if I ever said something good about myself karma would come back at me. Every person I've talked to outside the anons of the internet have said I just need more esteem. I guess they are right. Most people see us as different than we see ourselves. They don't see me as the hateful monster troll under the bridge that I see myself as. Maybe some but those people can go suck an egg.

I started the picture on the left in my mirror. I am now the picture on the right. HRT was only a tiny portion. Make-up is a little bit in play too. I have had no surgical modifications. Quite a few spiritual modifications. Ok, what's my beauty secret? Giggle. I light up my smile, love people with intensity, let out my female confidence for all to see. Oh and wear my life like a beautiful, loose, flowing blouse. And for those who glare at me, my best Hellen Keller. Can't see them, can't hear them, therefore they can't be there!. A smile, a wave goodbye! I mentally drop them in the trash on the way out. New friends are on the way! I just have to remember that it is just their miserable existance not mine. We have everything to be proud of! We dance, we don't march in step.

I have no corner on the market. Give it a try! You won't want your misery refunded. Hug. JodyAnn

PS---Oh yes of course, I have been accused of being over-zealous! LOL! :harhar: JA

Jody, I also use the same beauty secret and am still amazed as how people react to me in such a positive manner. I love your analogy of you wearing your life like a beautiful, loose, flowing blouse, I am going to steal that if you don't mind, for that is how I feel. I don't think you are over-zealous, I think your like me, you love yourself and you love life, you love people and you are down right happy.

Hugs from Texas, Rikki......

Great Video Liz

So much of the despair we here on the forums here are due to someone baring their soul unhappy with their appearances. You got to believe that one day all will work out. Take care everyone and keeping pushing with a goal in mind. Nock down the obtables one at a time, babystep by babystep. I know what I want. I've spent my entire life planning it all out. Walls be warned, I'm coming through. Kathryn

Rikki, it is heartwarming that I don't flap my chops for nothing. Giggle, no, way giggle! Yes, you may quote any of my Jodyisms as your own. You have me pegged completely. I'm so glad you love your new life too. My life is such a joy, I don't want to waste a minute of it. Hug. JodyAnn

WOW! Did she give a reason at least? It's not like it takes up that much space.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
Yeah, it would be awesome to have something new, and it would fit the space pretty well.  We have kitchen counters big enough to process whole deer, goats, large amounts of vegetables, etc.   Unfortunately for me, I couldn't even convince our "den queen" to let me have counter space in our downstairs kitchenette for a Keurig.  🙄

I think the biggest mental block to acceptance is the language that keeps us othered and on the fringes, rather than woven deeply into society. But I also think that's changing fairly rapidly. My youngest is well into their young adult genre novels phase and I'm impressed (and kind of amazed) at how many of their mainstream traditionally published novels have LGBTQ+ themes woven in. That child is 12, and I suspect that as the kids who are in middle school along with them grow up, they're just going to expect and demand better than we've done as their parents. They've seen it in the fiction they read and have every expectation that it will be part of the life they live.

Heck they took off three grand on that one. That is massive! Then again your nest isn't small either so I guess would definitely come in handy.

Congrats on T <3   The height problem I think is an issue for a lot of trans guys, unfortunately. I know more tall cis women than short cis men, so it especially stands out to me whenever I'm in a room. I'm hoping for your voice to drop soon, good luck! (I've heard it feels a little bit like a cold? If that's true, hope it'll feel better quickly and that it's worth it!)

Hi Raine, my obstacles are that I'm 5"2 and always will be at the age of 34. I have size 5 feet, so it's difficult to find shoes, not alot of options, have to go to the teen boy bit. My voice was an issue, but T is starting to help me stay in the lower range of my fem voice, and I'm hoping it will drop soon.

I just like how our posts complimented each other.  Your point about publicity of pride events and that culture seemed to be spot on.  My culture and mindset is so different that I'm barely aware that things like that are going on.  I don't watch news and I'm very much into professional life and life-long learning.  There are all kinds of cultures out there.  Thanks for sharing your insights.

Here, the public image of LGBTQ+ is formed from the limited contact of the Pride Parade, which seems to always attract a few people who are into flamboyant sensationalism and inappropriate conduct, so there are arrests for lewd conduct, indecent exposure and public disorder.  Those are the people the news media always covers at the parade, as if everyone LGBTQ+ was like that.  The whole parade thing backfires, in my opinion.    Sometimes these types show up at protests as well, and of course, that is what the news media picks up on.    Some people need to be taken quietly aside and told they are not helping.   I don't know if that is the biggest block, but it is there.  Lousy marketing,

One of my roommates bought cheese and pasta and asked if I would make mac & cheese.  I walked to the store and bought 4 cups of milk and then used the preppykitchen.com baked mac and cheese recipe that works so well.  Melting a stick of butter and whisking in 1/2 cup of flour and then adding the milk.  Breadcrumbs on top.  It's amazing out of the oven, but just edible when it is cold in the fridge.  It's all gone this morning and that made me happy.

We made a mega batch of curried sausages today, with enough leftovers to go to others, and into our freezer for us.    Dished up with mashed potato and peas.
