Debate Over California Schools Bill

This bill looks headed for passage in the heavily Democratic legislature.

This is the most controversial portion of the bill. I personally have issues with the broad nature of this language, which goes far beyond restroom use. I wish "facilities" was more narrowly defined, or allowed some discretion by schools as to reasonable accommodations.

(f) A pupil shall be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs, and activities, and facilities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records.

At least with this article it wasn't a total bashfest in the comments section. I'll say this... Social conservatives and "concerned" parents will bring up the rights of the bio born females and pretend they give a damn. They will say that we shouldn't be showering there if we still have our bits. Strangely enough they would be ok with a girl on hrt for years who in all aspects passes completely to shower in the boys shower room. Like that wouldn't cause a scene. They will bring up this idea that the same girl if in a girls shower room will go on a rape frenzy. Somehow their schizophrenic logic forgets that some girls like other girls and some boys like other boys. Are we going to force those gay and lesbian kids to shower away from their own gender as well? Kudos on the bill though. Now let's just do away with gender segregated bathrooms/showers or at the least just make them private stalls already.

Slightly off topic. When it comes to showerrooms/bathrooms out side of school. Use common sense. It's not me being a meanie but if you are not passing, you have that 4 day beard and all, you probably don't want to use the bathroom of your choosing. Enter at your own risk. Try not to make the first affirming thing you do before passing and all, to be using the girls bathroom. Honestly you should be able to but...people are stupid.
