What can the marine corps do if they find out?

Guest Jessicaann

Well I'm at my 4 year mark. I signed a 5 year contract though :( so one year left. I'm trying to VERP (early out) but idk for sure. I'm in an infantry battalion because I'm a grunt (worst choice ever!) I've had a worse time recently. I moved to a different platoon and everything has gone down hill. My NCO's hate me for every reason in the book. I'm constantly asked by people what I did to urine them off. I've never been in trouble before (I got a good conduct medal) but since they have been in charge if me I've gotten 3 negative consultings, 2 non recs, 2 6105's, and 2 page 11's..... All since February.... Anyway I had a really rough past couple weeks... I totaled my car and my grandma died. I was feeling really really low... I was suicidal so I went to get help... Now my command is all over me about seeking help.... I'm in therapy now and my therapist is a civilian therapist. He seems pretty cool he already asked if I was gay and I said kinda??? And he was like its --Censored Word-- that your expected to defend them when they would beat the crap out of you. I think after a couple sessions I may tell him just so I can have someone to talk to. Now if the marine corps did ever find out what would or can they do?

Jessica,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss and your troubles. If you trust your therapist then be honest and let some of this out to him. Of course the Marines can make it uncomfortable for you and ask you to leave. I was in two different services and made the mistake to go combat arms in the Army. I do not know the Marine organization at all. I hope things turn around for you soon. Until then Hugs and pats dear. We are here for you.

Hi Jessica,

I was in the Marines, circa 1986-1991, but do keep in contact with a good friend who is current army reserve, Lt Col., same age, we joined the Marines around the same time, he made a career of it, I got out after my 5 year stint(ie.MOS:5811, MP). The USMC is a very hypermasculine organization and I gather from my talks with my friend, and kinda feeling out today's corps, from watching some jarheads, near where I work, it could get you in trouble, ostracized and ridiculed. If you could, I would hold out until you get out in a year. Sorry to hear that Gerilynn, your getting lots of flak from fellow marines needlessly. I myself barely got out with a honorable discharge, after an incident. I hope all the best for you and not all Marines are buttheads.

Lucia,

P.S. I myself was able to make it out of the marines, with counseling from a counselor who was lgbt friendly, circa 1991.

Jessica;

A couple of things. Please, do not take this the wrong way. I am just trying to sort this out. There is not much information to go on, so I can only assume things. I was not in the marine Corps, I was in the submarine branch of the Navy.

1. Why where you transfered into a new unit? Was you tour over with your first unit or did you request a transfer, or transfered due to your being at your one year point and the unit was about to start working up for their next deployment?

Sounds like something is going on with your new unit. Do they suspect you are Trans or just Gay. Even though Gay and Lesbians can now openly serve, that does not by any way mean that it is going to be easy for anyone in a Infantry/combat division. The military seems to take a very long time accepting any changes in thier life styles being made by politicains.

It could also be that your new command just got back from tough deployment and with you being the new person. They may not trust you as a member of their unit, yet. If this is the case it may take awhile for them to become comfortable with you watching their backs, meaning that they become to trust their life in your hands.

Have you talked to your Gunney or First Sargent about any of these issues?

From my experience during my 20 years in the Navy a person does not go from being a good sailor/soldier to being a hardcase/trouble maker over night. There may be midigating circumstances that I do not know of.

2. If the Marine Corps or any branch of the military discovered that a srvice member is Transgender, they will/may start the immediate paperwork for your discharge from Military Service. However, it may depend on your immediate chain of command on how they will proceed in your case.

I am very sorry to hear about your Grandmother passing away. I am glad to hear that you have sought out help, with your personal concerns.

If I may ask? Did you discuss seeking medical assistance about your suicidal thoughts with your "Chain of Command"? The military tends to take a hard issue with "Bypassing the Chain of Command".

/HUGS

Well Valerie my unit is the same one I've been with since 2009 just a different platoon with 2 new SGTs. They may suspect but that's cause I'm 5'6 135lbs and very fem. I refuse to talk to my 1st SGT. He is on a spree if NJPing marines for stupid little things. Like our company has not hot any DUIs or nothing since we got back in NOV. but we got the most company level NJPs in the battalion. I don't plan on coming out to any marines ever ever ever. 99% of these guys won't give me the time of day. They treat me like scum and I'm afraid if I was discovered I would be beaten (again) or killed

Hi Jessicaann,

I'm sorry that you are dealing with all these issues at once, one at a time they hard enough.

Please be careful, and consider not saying anything to anyone, you have too much at stake. You've made it so far, and it may not be good for your future, if you tell anyone, even your counselor.

Please hang in there. Being Trans is hard on a good day. You are strong and courageous to have survived so much already. Please muster your strength, be patient, and do not let anything push you into the abyss.

You made it further in the Marines, than I could in the Army, and I salute you.

Hugz,

Gina

Well jessica,

If its any consolation, I knew a fellow marine e3 who others in my platoon found out he was gay, circa 1991, they rode him to sic bay on the grounds of mental health and did all kinds of low intensity mayhem for him to feel unwelcome and unwanted. We never came out to each other and plus who knows if he would stab me in the back since I was a greater taboo.

I assume he did not snap greatly since he had outside civilian gay friendly and I had a friendly transgender friendly counselor. This was all in mcbcamp pendleton, h&s bn, mp co., 3rd pltn (3rd herd). I can say this since its way after the fact in my situation. One thing is for rules to be on paper, another is social acceptance, especially in a hypernasculine organization as the usmc.

The usmc is one of the more elite open source organizations in the world. The rangers, green berets, seals are closed source organizations there is and alot lot smaller.

Second warning, this has gotten far and apart from the NEWS item that it started out with and is becoming a flat out battleground over political leanings and terminology.

Welcome to Lefty Land.... a festive theme park full of sparkles and unicorns, a perfect place except for one evil orange dragon wearing a blond wig.    I'm always amazed at the "flexibility" of definitions.  One person's f@scist seems like a centrist to others.  One person's "moderate" looks to others like the 2nd coming of Fidel Castro.  A normal marriage a century or two ago is now a criminal offense, and relationships that used to be a criminal offense are now open, normal marriages.  Pedophiles now want to be called "minor attracted persons" and teenagers are now defined as children.  A Republican in NY or CA would be a Democrat just about anywhere else.  I'm certainly no advocate for relativism, these are just observations.    What I find interesting about this Australian candidate is the attitude that he shouldn't be allowed to run for office.  Why?  Just because his views are different, or even offensive?  Who makes that determination?  Can an election really be open and fair if it is barred to candidates who are not "politically correct?"  Here in the USA, we can openly have candidates who are f@scist or any other thing they want to be, no real restrictions aside from eligibility requirements related to age, location, citizenship, and criminal record.

@Birdie You certainly have more patience than I do.  I don't take it well if I get scolded.  Either I sulk or I get nippish.    We had a good Mother's Day here yesterday.  Quite an event, since 4 of my partners are mothers.  GF enjoys it a lot, because she's very (excessively?) proud of having produced her 5 kids.  Her eldest starts school this fall.  Amazing how time flies...

Reminds me of elementary school when a kid yanked my chair as I was taking a seat. I told him to "go suck an egg" and we both got sent to the principals office. I was like, "tf did I do to deserve that?"

Firstly, it's nice to hear that your other half is now open to you living as you are!   Secondly, things I have noticed, having started shots just before the New Year: Tears do come much more easily I am far more tender with my wife and I like to snuggle more I have noticed anxiety has an increased effect on me I am on a weekly injection, so when I get near my next shot I have noticed feeling a little emotionally "blah" After shots I am much more energetic and bubbly Otherwise, I wouldn't say I've been on any kind of roller coaster of emotion and I'm far from unstable. So take heart and congratulations!

Three reprimands in a certain time frame? It seems like they should drop off the calendar after a period of time. How long can they hold a reprimand on the calendar?   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Congratulations on getting the go ahead with HRT. I'm so ready for my wife to drop her opposition. As for the mood swings... I would look forward to them myself.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Three reprimands and they suspend attendance for a couple weeks.
    • Mmindy
Good for the other participant. What's involved in a reprimand? At our age, what are they going to do? Withhold snacks...   @BirdieI'm sorry you have to put up with such discrimination's. I'm proud that you're standing up for yourself.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Associating LGBTQIA+ with pedophilia or "grooming" is a conspiracy theory as old as the study of psychiatry (mid-19th century) when early "scientists" theorized that homosexuality was caused by childhood trauma of having been molested by older men. Some of us have moved on and become educated since those days, but conspiracy theories have an uncanny staying power...the "power" of ignorance, including the titillation of scandal. There is some psychology about people being attracted to outrage and fear. Life is naturally dynamic and uncertain. Unless you have developed a transcendent mastermind, most people have some level of discomfort with that. Therefore, it is weirdly comforting to target a particular thing as a threat and to make a big fuss about it, whether or not it has any credence. And it is comforting to be one among a mass who are equally outraged about a thing, whether or not the thing is real. It is also boosts the ego to speak with vehement "authority" about a thing that is a known trigger for the masses. Like Vicky said, Dunning-Kruger Effect.   However prominent a movement there is or not of pedophiles claiming that their perversion is a sexuality (I have heard of that, but never as it being a major influence), it is the case that much of the viral spread of disinformation associating LBGTQIA+ with pedophilia is due to online trolls. Surely, there are loads of 'em. But here's just one reported story. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/posing-gay-men-twitter-troll-goes-viral-attempts-falsely-tie-n954721

Another interesting day at the day-centre....   Another participant called me "sweet cheeks" and we both got reprimanded for inappropriate behavior. 🙄

She stood at the world's edge, awaiting judgment Isolation judged to be an insufficient burden The skies above required a hand, precisely two To keep the heavens high and keep the vaulted sky from crushing you She bent her knee and gritted teeth, awaiting weight Mentally preparing mind and body for the grimmest fate. Her head was bent, the firmament so hard to hold, Her back against the wall and braced against a fall And all that matters is she never ever drop it There she stands.  If they weren't full, her head would be in her hands. Heroes they came, from far and from wide to gawk at the girl who held up the sky.
