Desert Island

After giving this topic a great deal of thought, maybe the best way for me to pass the time on that island would be to write four American Novels!

I could read all four in the first week, then what?

I'd be set for years trying to write four novels!

And if I finished, just correcting the spelling could take a lifetime!

The Outline of History by H.G. Wells,

The Master of the World by Jules Verne (long winded, would take an enjoyably long time to read)

A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny (just finding a copy of the fool thing would delay the trip indefinitely!)

The House on the Borderland and Other Novels by William Hope Hodgeson (Arkam House volume containing all four novels (The House on the Borderland, The Boats of the Glen Carrig, The Ghost Pirates, and Nightland)

Runner-ups: ANYTHING by Jasper Fforde (The Eyre Affair, Lost in a Good Book, etc. for my money the heir-apparent of Douglas Adams), Empty Cities of the Full Moon by Howard V. Hendrix, anything by Kathrine Kurtz, anything by Jack L. Chalker, Left Hand of Darkness by Ursela K. Leguinn (An interseting trans sci-fi novel), Norstrilia by Cordwainer Smith, and the entire Amber series (both about Corwin and his son) by Roger Zelazny.

Books I would NOT take: Any current English translation of the Bible (example: almost half of the translators working on the NIV version walked off the job over the anti-gay slant, the King James is even on that score), anything by L. Ron Hubbard, The Book of Mormon, the Koran, and several of the books I reviewed during my tenure at Alternate Realities Webzine

The book isn't hard to find, but if you want a new one, you probably can't afford the trip.

3 Charlie and the chocolate factory, CLASIC!

4 And, since it is a desert island, the american pagent a... gulp... US history text book. I do love my history.
