LGBT Community Center

I am very proud to post links to the LGBT Community Center located at 208 W. 13th Street, NYC, NY that was very instrumental in my “Coming-Out” and “Happily Transitioned”.

The Center offers a wide array of services. This is the Center where I first received my GID Counseling and also my referral for my HRT. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Glenda Testone is the Director.

I am listing several links that I feel you may find beneficial, especially if you travel to the NYC area.

Legal Clinic of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Bar Assoc. of Greater New York

In addition to their link, they also meet EVERY Tuesday at the LGBT Community Center at 208 W. 13th St.

They offer free General Legal Info and also offer Free assistance in Legal Name Changes.

Note: They protect your identity, and if they call you back, the caller ID makes no reference to being LGBT related. I believe it just says “New York”

I go to the Center quite a bit. The drop in group was instrumental in my understanding of what it is to be transgender. I hanve been involved with other activities there. Thank you for posting this, Carla.

Hello Gennee,

I believe in giving credit where credit is due.

Without going into detail, the staff at the Center "Literally" saved my life from suicide.

I considered the CENTER as a SAFE house where I would go to get away from all the pain and suffering I was experiencing at home.

I also volunteered there for approximately 2 years and became very friendly with most of the staff.

When I was there , I went through 3 different Directors. Mr. Burns, Mr. Anderson and now finally Brenda Testone who is the Current Director.

I even attended my first LGBT Pride Parade while volunteering there also.

I used to attend the TransFemme Drop-In groups run by Center Care.

HUGS,

Carla
