And yet female vaginoplasty got adopted for transwomen using a slightly different technique and now is almost always fully successful.

Never say never. As for growing the genitalia themselves, the same stem cells could be used with the removal of one X and the addition of a Y chromosome from a brother or your father or other male relative. Removing or altering a single chromosome in a stem cell then using that as a basis for other growth is already an established protocol.

Be cautious, but realize that change happens anyway. If you're lucky that change will come sooner than later but never ever predicate your own transition on technology that isn't yet out there. For me this discussion remains scientific curiosity but if it ever becomes available, I'll see if I can latch onto it. And if not, I'll live my life the best I am able.

???

Are you saying vaginoplasty for transsexual women was adapted from a technique used on natal women?

Because that isn't true. As far as I know the French surgeon Dr Georges Burou created the modern SRS approach in the late 1950's in Casablanca. And various other surgeons learned from him. Although similar in some respects to the procedure available to natal women, they are essentially completely different procedures.

My misunderstanding, Leah! I was under the impression that several important lessons had come from natal female vaginoplasty in the development of MTF vaginoplasty. Thanks for the correction!

Carla touches upon a point that is important to remember, especially if you're not familiar with the state of modern biotech - namely that usage of our own stem cells to grow organs is rapidly advancing and the need to transplant anything is very likely to be a temporary moment in our technological history. And before you say you're XY so can't grow ovaries, remember that gene surgery is almost 60 years old already and removing the Y chromosome and replacing it with another X is actually a trivial thing to do on a small scale (a few stem cells).

Once we have a source of XX stem cells, literally any organ can be grown and it will be fully female yet not rejected by your body because it has all the same chromosomes.

So don't look for transplants like this. I highly doubt they will be done or done for long if they start. Instead search for information about stem cells, tissue engineering, and organ replication. It is a field that is advancing rapidly and while I do not expect it to matter to me, it may yet matter to some of you who are younger.

Spot on... besides I wouldn't want someone else's organs inside me unless if was a matter of life or death. And I especially wouldn't want some cadaver's reproductive system... why would I want to give birth to some dead woman's children? That would be bizarre!! But gene therapy and stem cell technology is quickly reaching maturity... a lot will be possible in 20 years that we couldn't even dream of today.

  • 1 month later...

As for me, I'm 2 months hrt so I've another 22 months to go for my GRS. Due to my age I'll most likely need VFS (voice feminization surgery) as well. As for FFS, I am an XXY (KS) I forget the actual name of the syndrome, so I am thankfullt blessed with very delicate small feminine features and bone structure so I should do very well with hrt, and my Doctors think so too. I will however need GRS eventually to make me whole.

I do very much appreciate everyone's time in doing this research. I've bookmarked the links for later reading.

It's on its way to becoming a reality sooner then we think.. As for a complete switch of organs.. I don't think that work after a certain point.. Especially the pregnancy side as our bone structure is too different. If I remember my biology our pelvis would not move and open to allow a child to be born.

Pregnancy isn't a big deal actually. It's always been a standard plan that a female without bone clearance will deliver via c-section. It's really a matter of getting genetically suitable uterus and ovaries that last for life.

hi vidanjali !! i know exactly what you mean, i do have a few trans and otherwise queer friends nearby me but currently i present as 'cis' for obvious reasons so it's not all that easy for me to reach out and find that kind of community (though i do love my irls!!)   but yeah, i get this weird paranoia that if i come out to too many people it'll end up tracing back to my folks (not everyone knows my family is homophobic and being outed is a big fear of mine)   but im sooo happy to know that that feeling was just dysphoria !! i thought i was going crazy for a minute !!.   thanks so much for welcoming me, and you have a great day too !!

hi susan!! thats very much how i feel !! i have no issue explaining my gender or educating other people on transness but it feels like im talking to a brick wall of misinformation even if they are well-meaning and accepting people ! but thank you anyways for welcoming me here !!

This is a fairly long video by Philosophy Tube,  (Abigail Thorne)  Discussing some of Judith Buttler's work and related stuff.   I wasn't sure where to post it, so if there is a better place, move it.

I have a fantastic therapist. She is so caring she has helped me open up so much. Unfortunately, She is ending her internship. Do to a hiring freeze at the VA she isn't going just go right into a position there.  My Endo is out of the Denver VA hospital. I haven't talked with her in probably 2 yrs. I am  looking to transfer providers and get back to seeing a GYN at the Cheyenne VA.

Shopping at the mall today and helping out at Torrid I excused myself to the restroom. The manager told me the restroom at JC Penny was much closer (I normally use the family restroom in the food court).   Upon arrival I discovered that JC Penny doesn't have a family restroom, it's either or.   The men's room was occupied with customers, and me going in with large breasts, long hair, and makeup was going to cause a stir, so I opted for the woman's room instead. I was the only one in the woman's room.    Texas state law does state that your must use the restroom that matches your chromosomes, and it's a misdemeanor to not do so, but it seemed to be the best choice (I really needed to go!)

I had some guy grab my butt on the ship.  I don't know how "real" it was, but I did not enjoy that at all.  Also did not enjoy the hazing I saw other people going through.  One person can only do so much to stop that when there are 10 people doing it.

I pulled this out of a stack of old military mementos yesterday.  I guess I didn't realize how cool this one was because I did so much of this kind of thing back then.

This internet video thing is pretty amazing.  I'd call it Zoom, but there are other platforms out there.  I prefer Zoom over Teams because Zoom puts me and everyone else in the same picture.  I like seeing the whole group in one shot.  Teams of course is about having so many people that you can't get them in the shot, or is it?   Just saying that I have never met any of my counselors in person.  Doctors, of course I have and I am lucky there.  They are 3.5 miles from my house as is the main transgender surgery place in town.  I've been doing virtual visits with the medical doctors lately though.  It feels like once I became steady state, they don't need to interact with me physically that much.  I have enjoyed going into their office in my nice clothing.
