I am currently over 300lbs and I want so badly to lose the weight but I never will because I am eating my emotions. Can anyone please recommend any online support groups for overeaters or books. I am at my wits end looking for solutions. Thank you.

Hi Hon,

Welcome to Laura's Playground.

I don't have any links that I can provide that you could not find yourself. If eating is a real issue for you, I would recommend that you seek medical advice in real life. Self help has its limits and it sounds like you need some degree of intervention.

I agree with Brenda.

You may need some support to get over this. I will say that a lot of times the quality of of food is more important than the quantity. I believe sometimes we eat more because the body is deficient in an important vitamin or mineral. Learning about what each food does for you is a good start. Your body needs a certain amount of protein/carbohydrates/fat in every meal. Try and cook your own meals instead of buying frozen food, like tv dinners. Also you might try smaller meals more often.

Knowing the remedy is easy. Changing your habits to make it work, not so much.

Getting help may well be critical. You have all ready realized the problem but most of us are not able to make major changes in habits without help. I know of several programs but all share working with help. If you can reach out to us please keep reaching out to folks in real life. Your MD is a great start as weight is imporntant for our overall health.

Hugs,

Charlie

Some great advice given here already.

You said you'll never overcome your challenge as you're eating your emotions. You need to try and sort your head out first and try and understand the root of the issue.

I know that's easier said than done, why not join a local weight loss group, it could be a great way of meeting new people.

Set yourself small targets, and build from there.

Sorry, I don't know if it's possible to edit a post (or I don't know how) but I forget to mention that if you want to lose weight, buy a decent weighing scales and weigh yourself every morning or on a particular day every week.

With a little bit of exercise and changing your diet, the weighing scales will become your best friend.

It will tell you if what your doing is working but you need to be patient and ruthless at the same time with yourself.

Hi,

Here is an excerpt from my Introduction and I hope it is helpful to you.

Once I Came-Out, I began to love MYSELF. My hygiene improved, I dress better and more attractive, Look forward to seeing myself in the mirror while putting on my make-up even thought I could use some improvement. I also enjoy doing my own Mani's and Pedi's. I find it VERY relaxing. My WHOLE personality changed for the BETTER. I also enjoy when I dress up to go out. I dress very well.

I tell people that I "dress the way I feel" and I feel VERY HAPPY TODAY.

I also lost a lot of weight going from 265 lbs to 175 lbs in 3 months after my SRS surgeon required that I weigh less than 200lbs. I kept it off since 2008. Today I am 6' 175 lbs. My waist went from 48" down to 38".

I was also an Insulin Dependent Diabetic, prior to loosing all my weight my BGL was >650. Today it is between 85-95 without any meds. I keep myself in shape by doing all my own cooking, don't eat fast foods or frozen foods. I only eat HEALTHY foods. The only exercise I do is I try to walk whenever possible. I also avoid eating snacks and/or JUNK foods.

I also have to agree that the scale is my best friend.

I weigh myself twice a day to keep tabs on my weight.

It is amazing what you can accomplish when you have the right motivation.

I wish you Success and Happiness on both losing weight and also your Journey.

I hope that I have been of some help to you.

Hugs,
Carla

This is a link to Over Eaters Anonymous and they do have a significant list of online meetings http://www.oa.org/membersgroups/find-a-meeting/. Both of my daughters have had "comfort eating" problems related to to other mental issues (thankfully theirs are not gender related) but have been helped by OA, It is a twelve step program, and you can find a person who will be your sponsor and special contact, even if it is by computer, but it will be someone who knows your pain and problem and will work with you to restore a healthy relationship with food, where it gives you what your body needs to survive, but to free you from your weight issues. I am an alcoholic and lost one whole lot of beer belly from that program, but the steps toward sanity and responsiblity which are the same in OA can make your life joyous, free and responsible. Reach out to OA and they will offer you their hands and hugs. Maybe you can also find an IRL group near where you live too.

Tension is not a well-understood psychological state. It can be both positive and negative, much like stress itself. A 2015 research paper on the theoretical framework of tension notes it's an anticipatory emotional state which tends to be associated with: conflict.

I'd love to have a dinner party with Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Voltaire, and Ayn Rand.  Would definitely be an interesting time.

In the forward I learn that transgenderism is bad, and somewhere else that transgender ideology is bad.  I have not yet read a definition of either in the document.  I assume they are the same.  I know Focus on a Family has a definition of transgenderism on their website, or did, but I am not sure this is the same as that.  I might agree that transgenderism is bad if they use a definition I condemn (e.g. transgenderism means you always pour ketchup in your shoes before you put them on - I could not agree to that).  Is someone who believes in transgenderism, whatever it is, a transgenderist? I never see that term.  There may be other definitions out there, but I don't think there is an Official Definition that we all agree to.

Crazy fact, was gonna go to the school where this went down at before I moved, have a lot of friends there. I know at least one of my friends met the guy on one occasion, not knowing who it was.

They are thinking of Loudon.  The problem there was the girls were not protected from a known predator, who was moved from one school to another instead being effectively disciplined.  Outlaw school administrators? <sarc>

How ironic.  I agree with the governor "“You cannot change your gender; you cannot pick your gender…there is a confused group of people that somehow think you can,”    - we are what we are, we are fighting the fact we CANNOT change our gender, which we did not pick.  Many if not all of us would not have picked a trans condition and have sought to evade, deny or move out or resolve it anyway we can.  Those who are confused on this issue are not trans folk.  They want us to change our gender but they deny we can.  Confusion.

@FinnyFinsterHH no one can satisfy your questions about what will the future hold. But I can advise you to slow your mind down as much as you're able. Take it slow and one moment at a time. This advice goes beyond the practical reality that that's truly all you can do - further, try to enjoy each moment. It's clear you have a lot of aspirations regarding transition. But it's best to try to accept the bounds of your life circumstances at present because if you develop worries or even resentments about them, that will only make you bitter and more anxious. Instead, try to focus on anything you find affirming. Practice positive self-talk and give yourself affirmations too. Try to let go of expectations of your family members - they can only deal with change to the capacity they're able due to their own life conditions. Allow them grace as you wish they would allow you. Practice patience.   Try this exercise - read through your post and make one list of the positive developments and another of things you cannot control (including the future). If you have a sense of spirituality, offer the second list as a sacrifice to however you understand a higher power - leave it in their hands. If you're not spiritual, then offer it up to hope. Then throw that list away. Keep the list of positives and leave some room on it because guaranteed you'll have more and more to add. Look forward to that, but don't let your mind think it can rush things. Try to enjoy the ride.
