Inspiring Music

So when I was younger and when I was down there was one song I would listen to that would 'make me feel like a hero' it would get my spirt up and help me daydream of being a strong man - a super hero. Even if I was far from it in real life.

It was;

Gundam Seed: Justice and Freedom

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5x05GjXGKc

I wondered if anyone else has a song that inspired them in some way.

I have always been moved to tears (very embarrassing for a big 'guy') by the song written for the musical about my hero Don Quixote, "The Impossible Dream".

If you have not heard this you should listen to it, it is a beautiful melody along with to me an inspiring message.

For some reason, it makes me feel that even if I never achieve any of my goals in life that it was worth living as long as I tried.

I have to go find a recording of it, all of this crying just thinking about it.

Love ya,

Sally

I saw Jim Nabors (Yep, Gomer Pyle) sing The Impossible Dream on some TV show and it was incredible...GREAT voice for a great song...In My Hour of Darkness (especially) but anything by Gram Parsons always moves me

Hmm. I don't really have anything that you asked for to contribute but I do notice a lot of "superhero"-ish themes running through several of your threads. Its good to have high standards for yourself but be careful of getting a "hero" complex if thats a danger (not sayin it is just sayin....) You deserve as much chance as anyone to just be human, superhero's don't really get to just be human and have failings and need other people. Those are valuable things and "worthy" things since they're the opportunity for someone else to love you instead of just the other way around. Dunno why I felt compelled to go on that tangent :P Maybe cuz I used to have that complex myself

Whew, I'm glad thats over lol :P

Thanks, Evan! I understand heroes faults better then most. Those are the heroes I admire the most. The ones with a rough past and struggled for what they have.

I would love to be a hero but its a childish dream because I know the real heroes out there are the good cops, firemen and people who serve in the army for the better of man kind.

You can be ahero in other ways.

There are heroes right here in the playground.

Some are moderators and some are just members, some spend most of thier time in the chat rooms but they all jump in when we have someone thinking about suicide and self abuse, or self medicating - Evan is a hero - just modest, so are you, how many posts have you blocked and PMed the person about dangerous hormone abuse?

We are all heroes to someone, just one someone who needs our help.

And that is one reason that so many of us come here, to help as much as to be helped.

Back to the topic, and I'll dedicate this one to you Zabrak, "You're the Insperation"

Love ya,

Um, okay, the two songs i think are the most inspirational (for me anyways) are Bridge over Troubled Water (Simon and Garfunkel) and Ready Set Go (Tokio Hotel). I Won't Back Down (tom Petty) is also good for that, but the first two are my favorites.

The BOXER by Paul Simon. Sung by Bob Dylan on his album SELF PORTRAIT. Maybe his least appreciated L.P. but by far the greatest under produced of all time.....Mia B)

I forgot to mention that Chicago recorded, "You're The Insperation".

Here's one from my favorite Canadian Blues singer, David Clayton-Thomas with Blood, Sweat and Tears, "You've Made Me So Very Happy".

This one is more inspiring for how the band recovered from one of the most devestating snubs of all time, most people didn't even know that they perfromed at Woodstock, being left out of the albums and film - but they were the Saturday night headliner, because of an unbelievable debut performance in a New York City Club a couple of months earlier. Most bands would have packed it in what with missing out on the royaltes from all of the "Woodstock Mania",

Here is the lost footage of "Spinning Wheels" live from Woodstock"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuoytpKkKqg...feature=related

Here's the studio version for a better recording quality and Lew Soloff's trumpet solo in this one became a classic - if your band played this song, forget playing your own solo - this is what the audience wanted to hear.

Sally

Sally -- Thank you for your beautiful thoughts on "The Impossible Dream." I have loved that song since it first came out. In the past its uplifting message about following your dreams no matter what helped me get through several very rough, very low points in my life when the easiest path would have been to give up and end it all. In those times, that song's uplifting message pulled me through.

Another song that helped me hang in there was "The Darkest Hour Is Just Before Dawn" (I have heard it performed by both Linda Ronstadt and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.)

Since 2006 the song "Pilgrim", written and performed by Enya, has been a major inspiration for me. The thought that I can't change the past, but can change where I go from here on serves to encourage me to keep going on the path I know to be true, no matter how confusing or difficult.

Yes, yes and yes, in case anybody is wondering, I am hooked on Pat Benetar :D

I always thought that she had a powerful message in her music. She sang about some contraversial subjects at the time like abuse on children and women, but all of her music was a message driven home with power. I saw all of her videos and you could see that this power was coming from her heart and her life experiences. By watching her videos, I felt that completed your sense of her music. I think that she did a wonderful job in communicating that to her fans.

The are two songs that I found that covered life and my perception, and hopes and they were:

"All Fired up" and "Invincible"

These can be viewed also through youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fwkdavGoOQ...feature=related (All Fired Up)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJLCypVk1uQ&NR=1 (Invincible)

I am hoping that these links are appropriate.

I KNOW IT - one of my fa-vor-rite too. I've also heard it sung on stage at LSU - a road company presentation - so moving...

Did you see the movie Bedazzled - the one with Brendan Fraser, Elizabeth Hurley not the Dudley Moore one? When he wanted to be debonnaire (spelling? - aww you know what I mean) he wished and became a 'playboy sophistocate" and then discovered he was gay - why? He knew the lyrics, composers and history of all the Broadway musicals. Watch out Sally - 'we is gonna out ourselves' - grin!

I am a Broadway Musical fanatic - not as deep as that shown in the Bedazzled movie, but I just can't help loving that part of the music family! And 'Oklahoma!' is my favorite (1956 for heavens sake - the movie - the part where the women are resting - oh my sweet heavens I get so caught up in the femininity of the song and the dancing - do you remember it? You are SS like me - ha!)

Next is 'Fiddler on the Roof."

We need a TOPIC- I haven't started one in at least 15 minutes! Do you think younger people would understand? "What is your favorite musical?"

Oh my gosh Naomi Stardust, that song sounded so familiar, I must have listened to it 10 times trying to place it, its on the tip of my tongue and is now driving me insane.

Well heres mine, it Always makes me feel so much better, it is the orchestral version of Simple and Clean played in Kingdom Hearts

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Yp0mNMtf-I

I have always been a firm believer in the power of music, rather it has lyrics or not, just by sound it can bring up feelings in a person and alter their moods. Sound is a very powerful medium.

sorry I can't really think of anything to add. After living with a musician and hearing her practice for hours and going to gigs, jam sessions, endless hours of jazz radio records and listening musicians talking muise and complaining about the way jazz artist

can barely make a living. I never listen to music on my own.

Hm... inspiring music? Well... I rather like "Land of Confusion", originally made by Genesis. Though, it was remade by Disturbed(and In Flames, too, but that one's kinda bleh...).

Must admit, some music that I find inspiring, and indeed awesome, is ERA's "The Mass" also "Luna" by Alessandro Safina, then of course some of Enya's, Bond and Chris Rea's Music.

Good afternoon everyone,   I often wondered why @April Marie and @Willowgot up so early in spite of being retired. Now that I have my own puppy as a house pet I get it. We haven't had dogs since before my oldest granddaughter was born 22 years ago this September. I've always had working hunting dogs, and it was important they became acclimated to the current weather conditions. While the kennels had large outdoor runways, they also had pet passes into the somewhat temperature controlled garage. Yes, they were allowed in the house but only for short periods of time. Fast forward to present time, and I'm potty training a puppy as well as crate training. The first night Parker Von Schwinegruber, slept from 10:30 until 05:30. Last night we went to bed and 10:30 and he started making noise at 05:00. Since I don't want to test his ability to hold his business, we got up and went outside. He took care of business and we went back to sleep. This time he had a dental chew bar and I filled his water bowl. We cat napped until 08:00 and then got up for the day taking him immediately outside. He took care of business, and we played fetch and tug of war with his now favorite puffball. We came in and I put him back in the crate positioned so he could see me cook breakfast. Did he NO HE WENT TO SLEEP! We ate breakfast, did the dishes, and finished off the pot of coffee I brewed at 08:00. Once he woke up we stared at one another for about 20 minutes, because he seemed content to be in the crate. I got up and we worked on some obedience training as well as getting into and out of the crate with permission. We don't want him to crash the gate or any doors we will be going through.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I have not heard about it here in California, but then again we have events of various sorts going on very often, and not just in the June Pride Month.  We have Trans Fashion Week going on at a hotel complex over in West Los Angeles for the next three nights featuring shows by Trans fashion designers and modeled by Trans and NB people on the runways there.  I missed a chance for some free tickets and while I know and love many of the participants I do not want to pay for the tickets which will be in the $50 to $75 range, and which at those prices are nearly sold out.  (Not to mention $25 valet parking each night at the venue complex.).  There will be actual high end fashion buyers there though and it is an area where we are gaining some good footing.  I also admit that NONE of the fashions are going to be anything at all that would fit my basic personal style but look fine if not crazy on my much younger Trans siblings who will model them. (Ok everyone else keep on @Mirrabooka's topic.)

Accidents happen.  So do heat-of-the-moment murders, without premeditation or trans-related hate.  It will take a trial to really figure it out.     One thing we can see from this is that it is people in our circles of acquaintances, friends, and partners who are the ones who usually hurt us.  Not someone random. We have to be careful who we trust.

Friday May 17th is IDAHOBIT (International Day Against HOmophobia, BIphobia and Transphobia).   Do you acknowledge or celebrate it? Do you do anything special for it, like taking part in any organized events or activities?   I'm not an activist and I prefer to fly under the radar, but I am slowly becoming aware of important dates. I have been aware of the date of IDAHOBIT for a few weeks now, but other important 'rainbow' dates have not been etched into my brain yet.    I will wear my favorite pride t-shirt as a token acknowledgement of the day, but it probably won't be seen; cool weather here will mean that it will be hidden under a sweater.

Happiness for me comes from being cognizant of the things that make me feel good.   Sunshine.   Pandering to my inner woman.   Knowing that some people in my life really 'know' me.   Vacations, and Eggs Benedict at an alfresco cafe.   My wife and I being telepathic.   Grandchildren.   Music.   Wine!
    • Ivy
True.  Every trans death is not a hate crime. There is so much hate expressed by some people, that we kinda get to expect it.
