help needed in uk getting and starting on hormones

I am from the U.K. and have decided finally to take the first step to being my true self. ( at 55 )

I need help with the route I need to go down to start on hormones.

my doctor is a family doctor who I cannot see or talk to because of a "slip" of confidence previously.

I could go private but still need help with route I need to go down to start hormones - its my first post so would love feed back

to a new future.

Hi Stephanie -- I know someone has recently posted a "help list" for the UK medical system, but I am not sure right off hand where it is here. Hopefully one of your UK neighbors will show up in a bit and shed some more light. I do believe you need to get a psych clinic referral from your local provider. You do not have to go into detail with the referring physician and anything to get the ball rolling is fair game in my mind. I do not recommend telling the doctor you are plotting his death, but having suicidal feelings is common among TG folks. http://www.lauras-playground.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=57821 This topic has some stuff in it, I wish I could do the better one for you though.

Its been a long haul coming to terms with conflicting feelings and finally taking this first step on the road to being a more relaxed and peaceful me,

I agree conflicting feelings does put you under extreme stress and emotions swing wildly.

help is the first step on the long road , but together with the help of new friends the journey will be less traumatic.

Hi,

If you can find out where your nearest gender clinic is you can self refer (well you can in Scotland) and bypass your GP altogether to start with.

will try - but I heard in England you need a doctor referral.

the only other way is to change doctors but with the pinch on funding at present I don't know who would take me on .

keep the advice coming.
