This is maybe something which has been noted before - I came across it earlier this week :-

I was in my art drawing class at nightschool. The subject for the night was figure drawing (proportions). On giving us a copy of both male and female the tutor said that the way to spot a transexual was to look at the calves (lower leg). In a man they are behind the buttocks and in a woman they are in front. I had not realised this. I attach a drawing I have found (and cropped to upload) which shows this (at least for the ideal man and woman).

I have checked on myself and (unless I am checking wrong) found I am more like a woman as I find it impossible to get my calves behind. Is this unusual in someone who is not intersex? I know I (and probably few others) equate to the ideal man (and in my case I am glad), but as the tutor was not referring to me or being particularly predudice in any way I wonder how well it is known, and whether it is really noticed.

Not sure how much truth there is to this But I in no way follow the male pattern shown in the diagram..yay...This could very well be why people told me i walked like a girl decades before I transitioned.

Oh thank Morrighan I am in front of my derrierre lol. I of course have been told for 2 decades that I walk and run like a woman. Well my wife confirmed that my calves are in front of my behind .The funny part is I have never really taken notice of that till just now upon reading this post. I am glad Tracy brought it up cause I love this stuff..

Even more than ever I believe I was meant to be a woman physically as well as to match my soul.

Thanks Tracy hugs Kalie

I'd think this may be a majority rule in a world of fit people with perfect health. The perfect posture in those drawings seems almost unnatural.

But what of a man with an ample buttocks? And when bad muscle tone enters the picture, the pelvis can tilt due to weak abs...like what can happen to some on HRT.

I'd put this in the same category as look for the protruding Adams Apple. It may work often but not always.

I enjoyed your picture and noticed the two people are naked except for the woman is wearing heels :D

Off to the mirror to check my calf to buttocks relationship...

Tracy most of that is to do with posture even when standing up straight women stand differently

Women tend to hold their shoulders back tummy in and bum out it makes any slight differences more obvious but it's by no means a rule my legs are fantastic I may not have much in the way of prettyness or boobs but my legs and bum are first class

I caught myself in the shower looking down and behind me to see if my calves stuck out further than my butt and it doesn't seem like it but my unit of measure (guessing by eyesight) isn't the most accurate...

Back in the dark ages, long long ago when I was still in high school I was often told while on the track team that from behind I looked like one of the girls. And yes this was an era of long hair, which I exploited. :)

I suspect that Kim is correct that the above are extreme idealizations and that the reality is going to vary widely between actual people based on genetics, posture, age, and overall health.

All interesting posts with good comments. I have read the and thought about things a little. I think in practice it is fairly irrelevant whichever way your calves are. What is more important is posture and deportment. I suspect that in a similar way that my buttocks project further than my calves there are likely to be many women whose calves project beyond their buttocks. In the diagram it is the ideal woman (as determined by who???).

As I said - I never realised the fact about calves. In practice someone would almost never be in a position to easily gauge whether this is the case. Very few people would know this anyway so my opinion is that if your posture / movement is such like a woman actual physical characteristics matter little.

Jaques, You would have laugher even louder at me ... standing up and twisting around right away. The results of the look are in. Old women shouldn't look. It hurts the back and leads to a complex about your backside.

Hugs,

Charlie

I'm pretty sure than if anyone with any kind of boobage stood like the guy in that diagram, they'd fall on their face. I personally have never seen anyone stand like that. Stereotypes are annoying.

Good luck maam 😊 I’ve experienced that they’ll lower the points , if you show up in court and pay the ticket.

Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums Mealaini,   Like you I knew in my preteen years that I was meant to be a girl, but didn't have any way to bring it up in the early 1960s. It was the expanding news outlets on the telly that allowed me to understand that I may not be the only person who felt this way. Wow was my mind expanded once the internet became a reasonable research tool in the 1990s.   My grown daughter (42) is nonbinary and atheist with pagan leanings. So when I came out to her she was thrilled and wanted to dress me up and show me the world. Well I think she wanted to show me to the world. My son (45) is evangelical christian and very upset with his sister for many reasons. However he's a reluctant supporter of me as transgender. I'm out to my wife and we've been married for 48 years this June, so I'm in a very late in life transition.   The other thing that has me going down an internet rabbit hole is your location. It clearly states United Kingdom with a sub flag of Illinois. I've searched the web and can't seem to locate Illinois, UK. Am I missing something?    Best wishes,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Thank you for sharing, @Mealaini, and welcome.    I appreciate your description of IFS and your book recommendation. I have a few close friends who are very enthusiastic about IFS and my therapist is incorporating some of those elements into my therapy.    -Timi

Leg hair.  Shaving it was a surprisingly big decision.  (Not as big as the beard tho)  After I did it a few times, it's never really grown back.  Haven't shaved them in a couple of years and you'd never know it.  A daughter living with me doesn't shave hers, and she is much furrier than I ever was.     I don't exactly hate my living as a guy in the past.  TBH, I was never quite there anyway.  But I just dropped it.  I live full time fem, and it would bother me a lot to go back to being a guy.  But I don't have to appease family or an employer.

@Loreleiit always sucks getting a ticket for passing a slower vehicle. I'm guessing the police officer was some distance behind you until you performed your passing maneuver. My most costly ticket was from a similar situation, however we were heading out of town and the last straight stretch of road to pass the two slower vehicles ahead of me was still in a 35mph zone. I didn't see the officer behind me and as soon as I pulled out to pass he turned on his lights and siren. Since I was in the process of passing, I figured the next safe place to pull over was at the upcoming roadside park. He didn't accept that and wrote me up for passing two gaps, speed in excess of 15mph over, and failure to stop. He did not care to hear about any fellowship in public safety, and no professional curiosities would be honored.  I did go to court plead my case and the judge, and he did see my point of continuing to pass with the intentions of pulling over safely at the roadside park. He was very familiar with the location. This allowed him to drop the failure to stop charges, but I did have to pay the full 15mph over speeding ticket. So my lesson learned was to never pass when entering or leaving a small town or village.   Hugs, and good luck in court.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Marriage complicates things.  We think we know someone… but then we don't. My ex supports me, but we're certainly not married.  She actually took me out for dinner a couple days ago. But if I said I didn't miss her it would be a lie.  That part is still hard. The hard truth is I had to get away from her, to have the freedom to find myself. Maybe it won't be that way for y'all.
