Curse Of The Cell Phone Zombies

Last Friday on Valentines day I had gone out to dinner at and Italian restaurant near my house. The place was decorated for the day, and there was subdued electric lighting that was offset by candle lights on each two person table in a very romantic setting. I was the only single person in my part of the dining room, and as usual I was people watching.

A young couple (25s at the oldest) came in, and the girl was facing me, her makeup was absolutely perfect for the lighting, and the candle light played beautifully on her face. Her foundation had sparkle stuff in it, that looked so romantic. I was more than a little envious of her makeup although her male friend was only average.

Between the soup course and the entree though, the girl took out her cell-phone to show her beau something, and the glare from the screen DESTROYED her makeup look, and turned her face into something from a vampire movie!!

The boyfriend had his cellphone out too, so I guess it really did not louse up the perfect romantic setting they had first made!! What a waste of a romantic setting. (I was ready to laugh!)

Oh wow... This, is why I'm one of the younger generation who scarcely uses my cell phone. Out of stereotype though, I'll pull it out and give myself an excuse by looking at something if I'm nervous. I'll never get that distracted with my phone! Bet it was hard to stifle that laughter :)

I have some young relations (through my wife) that we meet now and again for dinner or lunch or some family event. When we are all sitting together, they invariably take out their phones and become engrossed in them. It seems as though for them, we are the distraction, and not their phones. There was a time when such behavior would be considered rude. These days, it is seemingly just normal behavior. For me and my wife, its still rude.

I like my phone, when I have to make a call or check for an important message. I like the flashlight, too. But it is not a substitute for conversation. Thanks for the story, Vicky. Monsters, indeed.

I am amazed by the command they seem to have. The other day i saw two couples come into a coffee shop. As they entered they were laughing and enjoying each other. As if on cue it was dead quiet. I turned to see why. Each one was typing away. Were they talking to each other or destroying another groups?

I use mine and even broke down and got an i-phone. It is a good way to communicate but, as Vicki pointed out so well, not very romantic.

Hugs as i type on my confuser(who me?),

Charlie

Interesting - I never thought of the glare from a phone, but I have had issues with taking photographs with flash on. You turn a bit ghostly lol.

It is possible to buy makeup which can be used for photo shoots and under studio lights (models use it). I have not tried it. I just don't use flash most of the time, but it is perhaps something to investigate if you are going to be in that position

I often have no phone days it is quite nice in fact....

Usually though one of the people who were trying to get a hold of me and couldnt always want to give me some grief about not being able to get a hold of me and that I should always carry my phone with me...

My answer to them is I grew up in a generation where the phones were attached to the wall by chords and they didnt leave the wall when you left the house and we still managed to survive, just pretend my phone is still stuck the wall and everything will be fine....lol

Please Note: At the time of this incident, my cell phone was in my car half a block away from the restaurant on the charging circuit. If carried into the restaurant, it would have been beeping its little "feed me, feed me" signal that I cannot mute. GRRRRR

You really need portable power there Vicki. I have extra juice in my purse (since my iPhone doesn't have a quick swap battery.)

Some might consider it sad or dystopian, but I'll be like one of the first people to sign up for sci-fi grade neural implants. Transmit the data straight in.

During COVID lockdowns without any place to go, some neighborhood buddies and I would play Life for hours (imagine a bunch of middle aged men playing that game, it was a hoot - all sorts of 'house rules')... anyways, as much as I could get away with it, I would choose a pink peg to represent myself... sometimes even had a female name to go with it... this was before I even really pondered whether or not I was trans ...   I was very determined to do this ... so interesting to look back and see all the threads pointing me to where I am now, though it has come as such a surprise as well...   Easy

Thank you all for the helpful responses... I realize some of HRT is for mental health -- like I said above I really am enjoying the ride so far in that regard!   Guess there is a part of me that wants to have my cake and eat it too. I want to have a nice feminine shape within reason for my age (fat distribution - you can kick in whenever you want!!). Yet, I am still not out to family, so I want it to be subtle enough as I go along that I can cover tracks when necessary ... Not the ideal situation but it is what it is ... maybe when family realizes that this is not making me into a monster, they will come around to some of it. I can hope, right?   More and more, I just want to look in the mirror and see a female body staring back at me ... I want female clothing that I put on to look like it fits me to a T... (and by T, I don't mean testosterone, lol)...    EasyE

Good afternoon M.A.   Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums, I think you'll find that there are a lot of us who had their first therapist reconsidering our story and recommended us to gender or LGBTQIA specific therapist. I made my first therapist cry after asking me what was my worst experience or memory. She was not prepared for the can of worms I brought to the couch. My second therapist is a gem, she's my age and knows how to work with my thoughts.    My two kids were also involved in the arts programs in school one in theater, the other combined art and modern music.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Welcome.   This can be a good sounding board and a place to say things you otherwise could not. Be yourself. Find out what that is.   Abby

I'm wearing a white t shirt and jeans.  The t-shirt is softer than a man's and slightly girly.  Feeling kinda pretty.

That's very common in internet forums and it is hard not to take it personally sometimes.   You might post "bump" with a smiley face to bring it to the top of the stack, or you might use the @ feature if there are certain people you would really like to have comment on it, and say something like Dear Abby, I would really like your input on this.  Please take a minute and respond.  Thanks!!!

The same for me... That's exactly were MmIndy came from. I started choosing female skins as soon as they became available in the few games I played.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Something else I noticed @Ladypcnj Since I use the Unread tab, I don't see threads I've read again until someone replies to it, or the author adds something.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good morning @Ladypcnj   Some posts get lost in the busy times here. It also maters how people navigate the site. Some only look at their notifications, or tap the All Activity tab which shows them thread they've commented on. (how I see it)... I on the other hand use the Unread tag under Activity. I don't think people ignore post as much as they get caught up reading threads they've already been active in.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
