LGBT meeting

In my life as far as I know, I've only met one transgender person, a crossdresser, actually in person. This was years ago when I was still very confused about myself and figuring out what I really was. I soon came to realize I was MTF and I didn't hit it off as friends or even stay in contact with this person. Years have passed since that occurred. I have connected with what I feel is the best term to how I feel inside, but am still only out to my wife. Anyway, I have the opportunity to go to a technology conference for my job and discovered there is a LGBT networking meetup there on one of the days. I have known, worked with or met, roughly a dozen gay and lesbian people in the past none of which ever knew I was tg. I feel a little nervous attending this meetup, but in a way feel like I should open up a little, be comfortable and do it. Everyone will be strangers basically. I guess I'm more curious about meeting others like me in person. I'll be in guy mode of course, but... Maybe this is all very silly. What do you girls think?

It's been my experience, Sienna, that doors are meant to be opened. Most of the times I've walked through them, I've been grateful that I did. No one can guarantee how things will go, and of course it is your comfort level we're talking about. But I've always been a risk taker.

I agree with Carolyn that you will not know if you do not go. I do not see where there is any type of danger there, at worst there will not be any other TG people there for you to network with, but there could be a few or there could be many as well, and that would at least give you some IRL experience and some leads on things to do. Good luck, it may be scary, but that will pass if you do meet others in your boat. GLB people are not going to readily "make us" as trans* any more than we would make someone as gay or lesbian, in fact probably less so for TG, since in our non-preferable gender, we try so hard and do so well at hiding our Trans*ness.

Sienna,

I also work in the technology field as a software developer (databases to be specific) and fortunately I find most people in the field are very open minded and accepting. In our local users group, I've been accepted with open arms. We have our yearly conference of about 1500 geeks (in San Antonio, TX in July this year) and there is a small LGBT group to meets for lunch on one of the days of the conference and I look forward to that. I can only imagine it going well for you. I've attended this conference nearly every year for 10 years and this will be the first time since transitioning and the way things are going I'll be going as Sydney :) It's going to be an interesting conference in many ways for sure.

Being admitted into the hospital after a long ER visit. I started passing lots of blood and they are keeping me for observation.    Nurse came in to see about a condom catheter, that of course doesn't work on me. 🤣   She said, "I guess we will use incontinence supplies on you."

Yeah.  I think this is what it is about.  Since they are not transgender, nobody else could possibly be either.  I'm not sure that a cisgender person can understand being transgender.  But that hardly means that a transgender person's experience is not real - just because it is not theirs. Why is a transgendered person's experience not valid, while a cisgendered person's is?  Why should it be the cisgendered person that decides? Nobody is forcing a cis person to transition.  What I do for myself is my own business.

I've been thinking it is a matter of belief.  They simply do not believe someone can validly be transgender and should not be allowed to practice their beliefs, but should be forced to practice their belief, that is, that there is no such thing as transgender and it is all mental illness/sin/hormonal imbalance.

I am really kind of sick of everybody who is not transgender deciding on what we need and do not need in the way of procedures. They act like all of this is play acting, and we can just apply cosmetics to our entire body. It might be refreshing if someone asked us directly what services we need in order to transition. I could say more as I am frustrated, but I do not want to violate the TOS.

Good luck on selling your wife on the idea of a different car. This could be tougher than negotiating with a dealership.   My wife agreed to my taking profit out of the company to buy a used truck once we found out the 2014 F-250 I currently had with 267,244 miles on it was needing new torque converter solenoids and the DEF system is chocking up. We bought a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, Duramax 4X4, with 163,000 miles. LTZ Off Road package, power mirrors, chrome step boards, rear camera, exhaust brake, and air lift bags on the rear suspension. It belonged to a friend of mine who also owned a mobile training business.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

At the other end and in our favor is Julia Serano's analysis of the Cass Report Fiasco   https://juliaserano.medium.com/the-cass-review-wpath-files-and-the-perpetual-debate-over-gender-affirming-care-8f56d0c4d0c6   Serano is a Trans Woman and a molecular biologist herself, guess whose evaluation I honor.

That's great @MaeBe hopefully the company will offer your wife a moving package with the new job position. That's how I was transferred from the St. Louis Metro area to the Indianapolis Metro area. The company covered all the moving expenses, as well as a three week stay in an extended living hotel while we chose an area to build our current home.   Good Luck and make it a happy adventure.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
