Hey all, I haven't been around much, but I've been here for about 3 and a half years (actually longer but under a different account when I was in high school that I forgot about and only as a "lurker" then). Anyways, some small updates:

I finally started hormones approximately 8 weeks ago! This was after committing myself to starting when I was 18 and putting it off, and off, and off again. The reasons were pretty good, but it did all turn out to be for something that never happened and can't happen :( (starting a family). I just turned 22 last week, so I am still quite young. HRT has been a wonderful change in my life so far but I have a looooong way to go still.

I am graduating from college in a few weeks with a degree (I think with honors/distinction, not sure) in mathematics. I'm the type who goes to conferences and gives talks on research :) I even got a pretty big monetary award that is equivalent to about 1/4 of mine and my spouses combined annual income, so that will really help a lot.

My body is starting to change, but nothing that could be easily noticeable to an outside observer. I have always been on the slim side, but my waist has shrunk by 2 inches to 28". The last time it was this slim was when I was extremely athletic, and I am currently not even close to being that fit. I've still got the butt from that, though :P Seriously, this thing is pretty big and I just measured and it has started to grow. Most of my acne, including the chest acne that I have had for almost 4 years without ever going away, has cleared up. I thought it was a myth, but holy cow is this nice! My nails stopped growing for a while, so I was worried, but they started back up again. My nipples and breasts hurt, but they are quite noticeably larger (I have been wearing baggy shirts). They also have turned into mini furnaces and I am getting padding on that hard lump thing.

It's crazy stuff, but I am continuing on this next leg of the journey after my stop. I am glad in some ways that I weighted. I still have some regrets about not starting sooner, but I did have a lot of things to work out. I haven't worked out everything-- I probably never will-- but I am a lot more prepared, if a little more scared.

Anyways, I hope y'all have a good day, have fun, if it is sunny, enjoy the sun, if it is snowy, enjoy the snow, if it is rainy or cloudy, feel that energy packed into that mass of clouds :P

Thanks so much for the update, Zeda. First of all, big Congrats on finishing school, and with such grades, too. Your parents must be proud. Congrats also on starting HRT. It is a big step, and I'm glad to hear that your spouse is with you through these changes. Support is so important. Your changes seems consistent with the usual timeline, and you are correct, there is a LOT more to come.

I wish you success as you graduate and look for work, and in all good things to come.

HUGS

Carolyn Marie

p.s. I would kill for your hair. LOL!

Thanks for touching base with such positive news. Too many of us don't concentrate well in school but it is great you beat that one!

HRT is something of a wild ride on top of the already interesting one. Hang on tight and enjoy the speed seems to vary from instant to is anything happening. Relax and let that inner woman keep growing.

Hugs,

Charlize

Haha, thanks! And I had just been shown what a hair straightener was the day I took that (the day I posted). I am glad that I was making choices about my transition loooong in advance to have my hair grown out this much :)

I didn't escape everything, so I still have some pretty poor grades and grades that are not at all reflective of my abilities. Luckily I have lots of people willing to write very positive letters of recommendation, so that might help.

Progress! Good for you! I wish you the best of luck with your transition going forward.

Thanks Liz!

Also, I am glad to see still a bunch of familiar faces!

Welcome to the forums! Writer and graphic artist (and photographer) here as well, though most of my life has been spent in the sports realm... bless you with three teenagers!! I have two and they are a handful ... I have found a lot of encouragement and help on this forum... Hope you do as well... Blessings on your journey ahead ...    Easy

During COVID lockdowns without any place to go, some neighborhood buddies and I would play Life for hours (imagine a bunch of middle aged men playing that game, it was a hoot - all sorts of 'house rules')... anyways, as much as I could get away with it, I would choose a pink peg to represent myself... sometimes even had a female name to go with it... this was before I even really pondered whether or not I was trans ...   I was very determined to do this ... so interesting to look back and see all the threads pointing me to where I am now, though it has come as such a surprise as well...   Easy

Thank you all for the helpful responses... I realize some of HRT is for mental health -- like I said above I really am enjoying the ride so far in that regard!   Guess there is a part of me that wants to have my cake and eat it too. I want to have a nice feminine shape within reason for my age (fat distribution - you can kick in whenever you want!!). Yet, I am still not out to family, so I want it to be subtle enough as I go along that I can cover tracks when necessary ... Not the ideal situation but it is what it is ... maybe when family realizes that this is not making me into a monster, they will come around to some of it. I can hope, right?   More and more, I just want to look in the mirror and see a female body staring back at me ... I want female clothing that I put on to look like it fits me to a T... (and by T, I don't mean testosterone, lol)...    EasyE

Good afternoon M.A.   Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums, I think you'll find that there are a lot of us who had their first therapist reconsidering our story and recommended us to gender or LGBTQIA specific therapist. I made my first therapist cry after asking me what was my worst experience or memory. She was not prepared for the can of worms I brought to the couch. My second therapist is a gem, she's my age and knows how to work with my thoughts.    My two kids were also involved in the arts programs in school one in theater, the other combined art and modern music.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Welcome.   This can be a good sounding board and a place to say things you otherwise could not. Be yourself. Find out what that is.   Abby

I'm wearing a white t shirt and jeans.  The t-shirt is softer than a man's and slightly girly.  Feeling kinda pretty.

That's very common in internet forums and it is hard not to take it personally sometimes.   You might post "bump" with a smiley face to bring it to the top of the stack, or you might use the @ feature if there are certain people you would really like to have comment on it, and say something like Dear Abby, I would really like your input on this.  Please take a minute and respond.  Thanks!!!

The same for me... That's exactly were MmIndy came from. I started choosing female skins as soon as they became available in the few games I played.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Something else I noticed @Ladypcnj Since I use the Unread tab, I don't see threads I've read again until someone replies to it, or the author adds something.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good morning @Ladypcnj   Some posts get lost in the busy times here. It also maters how people navigate the site. Some only look at their notifications, or tap the All Activity tab which shows them thread they've commented on. (how I see it)... I on the other hand use the Unread tag under Activity. I don't think people ignore post as much as they get caught up reading threads they've already been active in.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
