My SO and Support Meeting

My SO actually asked about a tg support meeting I attended. I was surprised, coming from one who wants me out of the house. Several things made an impression for her. One, the size of the group, about 30, and that there are a number of groups in the state. Then, the age ranges, one as old as I, and that it seems many have been meeting there for years. I think she got a sense that there really is a larger group and I am not a singularity.

This caught her interest. I had said the meeting was mostly women and one man. (To me, I think the numbers are correct.). That there were retired people, middle aged, 30s and two married couples. She picked up that the numbers of M and F did not add up for couples. For me, whether my imagination or my hope, I saw her understand that wives are still married to their spouses who had transitioned.

It has been almost a year and now we can almost reach and understanding.

Note to ..... If had not forgotten to remove my " guy safe" sweater before the meeting, I had a nice little peasant blouse and pant. A preciously small wardrobe, that I can wear selectively, not too often, out and about.

That's a twist on getting comfortable dressing at home first and then going out.

It takes some time for us to understand ourselves so when I think of SO I know it is not something that will happen very easily or quickly.

Hopefully that is light at the end of the tunnel!

ello Frida ,that is greta news I too am an SO my partner has been transitioning for two and half years ,their is hope lovey .Your wife is reaching out and trying to understand all this .It is very confusing and difficult for an SO to get their heads around it.What helped me alot was joining Lauras here i got support and understanding they heard my pain ,my fears and doubts they gave me strength and hope .I encourage you to share this site with your wife ,there is an SO furum which has many life stories on how other wives cope .I too have many topics in there also reading the differnt forums helped me understand my partner better and what she was going through.Im not sure if you are aware there is a a chat also where it is safe to come and share or vent .The chat is run by experienced mods ,we also have crisis mods available if you or your wife ever need it .please dont hesitate to join us .here is a link to chat and also we have a couples meeting every sunday which is run by my wife and myself .please feel free to join us you and your wife

I'm glad your wife went with you and found that she was not alone. As Angel said it helps to have other SO's to chat with just as it halls us to chat with each other. I am a human and we are social animals who can share to help each other learn and adapt to new situations.

Support groups can be ice breakers for all. Coming in there's a lot of misconceptions about what we do and whatwe are about.
