Congratulations Edu, I think it was worth staying up late for!

Congratulations Sarah, so looking forward to being over a year smoke free like you.

Think the next notable milestone should be 6 months. And thanks again everyone for your support!

Hugs,

Allison

Great work Allison and Edu. I just quit smoking 3 weeks ago, oral surgery required it, and now I stay quit.

It's odd that it took transition to get me to start working on my health, but I'm glad to be finally moving forward!

Well friends it has been a while since I posted on this subject and I have hit another milestone. 6 months ago give or take an half hour I smoked my last cigarette. I am still smoke free and I committed myself to a diet and excercise regiment and have lost 40 lbs to boot! I feel great and in 11 days I go for my first appointment for HRT! I once again want to thank everone that supported me and the others that saw inspiration and quit. Way to go!!!

Hugs,

Allison

Congratulations, Allison! I'll be there by the end of the month ;) I hope... I'm approaching a big challenge now: during the last week of June I'll be enjoying the patronal festivities in my hometown. On previous years, during those holidays, I have been a living chimney and a beer sinkhole. This year I gotta stay 100% smoke-free and limit myself to one or two beers per day night.

Edu

Allison and Edu, congratulations to you both. It has been a long time for me but i still have to remember that with the very first puff the monkey will appear on my back again.

Stay away from that first drag and the rest is easy now.

Charlize

Congrats Allison!
You and I quit smoking within a week or so of each other :) Proud of you.

It's soo worth it to be able to take the full dosage of HRT, definitely.

Hi Allison, good luck! You and I are in this together!!!! This morning I purchased a ecigg to help me stop before I start HRT. I've tried quitting many times before because I knew of the health risks... but I think that this time, it will be even more successful since I have a goal (starting HRT) to help me quit.

Again good luck!

Technically, I should wait until 23:50 CET, but today is the day anyway: the half-year milestone! Allison, I told you I'd get there :P;)

Also, I handled nicely the hometown holiday challenge: smoke wasn't even tempting, and beer was kept within the expected limits. Had to switch to soda's (with the potential overdosing on caffeine and sugar), however: the Mediterranean summer is too hot to not have some drinks, even by night!

Edu

Hi Edu and congratulations! I never had a doubt. I knew your hometown holiday was going to be a challenge but I figured you would do it!

Well the next milestone is the one year mark. I have no doubt that were going to make it. Next week I get to experience some of the blessing of my quitting since pending the results of my blood work I will be starting HRT!

Hugs,

Allison

I quit smoking almost 2 months ago. I still find it very hard to not smoke. Even now I am sitting here wanting one. Oh well, I would rather have a safe transition anyway.

I've been cigarette free for over a year now. And it's been the easiest thing in the world for me to stop smoking those nasty things, this time. You see, I went from smoking to vaping. With a good vape and some tasty juice, I have no desire to go back to stinkies. I get my nicotine, or my social anxiety medication, with my vape. I can breath now. I don't cough for 20 minutes when I first wake up. My sense of smell has come back, and taste with it. I don't stink now. My primary care Dr knows the benefits I, and others, have had, and he encourages me to vape in his office. He wants me to convert some of his other patients that still smoke, to vaping instead. I try my best to convert smokers every chance I get. And nicotine isn't actually unhealthy unless you go swimming in it. It's being used to treat Parkinson's disease now.

A brief reminder: vaping does have some negative effects on health. It's far less harmful than smoking, but it's not entirely healthy. So, if quitting entirely is too hard, then vaping is a reasonable option, but not as good as quitting for good.

Edu

I've not experienced _any_ negative affects from vaping. The Food and Drug Administration did a 40 year study on the affects of vegetable glycerin vapors and found NO side affects at all. None. Both of the main ingredients VG and PG have been approved by the FDA for over 50 years, for human consumption. PG is in baby toothpaste. Both are used in hospitals. Any time you go to a hospital you are likely breathing in PG vapors as it is commonly used to help keep the air clean in their ventilation system. The VG is used as a base for medications they need to deliver to a patients lungs, through a device called an atomizer. Guess what. It makes VG vapors to carry the medicine to the lungs. I have done a lot of research into vaping and when I see somebody talking about the negative affects I kinda wonder if the work for big tobacco. Or maybe they just see a news story that big tobacco has pushed. They are losing billions to the ecig market. And big pharma is losing out as well. I personally know 3 people that used to be on 3 or 4 different meds for COPD and asthma and other stuff. After vaping for a year and no cigs, their health has improved to the point where they are now off some of the meds. And one friend was removed from the asthma list since she _no longer fit the criteria_ and you know asthma is not "curable". But she used to fit the criteria and was on the medications for it. She no longer is. There has been plenty of studies done that show the benefits of vaping. But big pharma needs cancer patients and big tobacco needs smokers and they will both do what ever they need to do in order to maintain their supremacy.

I personally feel anything is better than smoking now. I quit cold turkey after being a light smoker for the last 24 years. I know people who vape and have improved there health by getting away from smoking. I after numerous attempts finially got away from nicotine. I know how hard it is to do. I will always be addicted to nicotine. This time I was ready and had the motivation I needed. That amount of willpower is tough to muster. So in my book anyone who no longer lights up is accomplishing something. I hadvtried the gum and patches without success in the past. Guess what I'm saying here is whatever works is cool by me.

Well hello everyone!

A year ago this was one of my earliest post here. Ar that time I had recently admitted to myself that I have always been a woman. I was getting my path figured out and part of this was self improvement. Loosing weight, excercise and quitting smoking. I knew from my research that nicotine and HRT were a bad combination and honestly had been trying to quit most of the years I had been a smoker. So on a Saturday night December 13th 2014 I smoked my last cigarette and later that evening got on the treadmill for the longest 20 minutes of my life. Afterwards I signed on to here asking my new found friends for support. Every one was so wonderful and I even adopted a sister in my fight against nicotine addiction Edu, who I helped inspire to quit as well.

Well the last update I made here was roughly months ago. Now a year later not only am I still nicotine free but I have also lost 75 pounds! And am 5 plus months into HRT. I feel fantastic and am the healthiest I have ever been in my life.

The support and encouragement of my friends here was a huge part of this victory! I just want to thank all of you who pledged your support, best wishes advice and prayers! You are the greatest!

I love you all!!!!!

Allie

ps Maybe next year I will revisit this thread again with a status update. Thanks again!!

Congrats to those that have given them up and good luck to those trying, the longest I have gone before I caved in was just over two weeks.

I too need to give up, besides the obvious health benefits it is the money I really want back, a pack of 19 here is £6.35. Working out the cost of 1 pack a day for a year and you get just under £2400 and that is money I want for better things.

Now if only I could convince mum to give up with me it would be easier for us both and mean more cash, but alas she is a stubborn woman.

Congratulations, Allison! I'll be hitting that milestone myself soon enough :P

Here is a tip for others. It may sound somewhat arrogant, but it's what truly worked for me: almost a year ago, when I made the final choice to quit smoking, I had succeeded even before I had my last cigarette. It was all about determination: too many times I had decided to try quit smoking, and utterly failed (had tried vaping, nicotine chewing gum, and many other approaches). That time I decided to actually quit. I picked New Year as the target date, and I knew there simply would be no more smoking as soon as 2015 began. For about a couple weeks I kept telling myself I'd quit. I knew I could (we all can!), and I knew I would. New year came and that's it: I didn't smoke again. Sure, there were some withdrawal symptoms for the first couple days, but that was expected and I kept focused on my goal.

The moral of the story, as a little green old Jedi would put it: Do or don't, there is no "try".

Hugs,

Edu

That is good news! Congratulations to both of you! :)

I just passed my 2 year vape anniversary on December 7. I call my ejuice, my social anxiety medication. And it does help me when I have to go and interact with other humans. And all of the Dr's that I see on a regular basis are glad that I vape for my nicotine instead of smoking. And my primary care Dr says my lungs have improved tremendously since I started vaping. Oxygen levels are always way good now too. It really does feel good to not be a smoker any more.

Congratulations. Getting away from nicotine addiction is a great accomplishment. I also had tried every other method. Patches, gum, hypnosis and even ear staples. Vaping didn't exist in those days. I see many doing that now and understand that need for the rush and peace that nicotine gave me. I feel blessed now to be free of that need. I'll never forget when hurricane Sandy was forecast and i realized i wouldn't need alcohol or nicotine to face the weeks of time with no stores open. My only needs were food and water. What freedom.

Hugs,

Charlize

Good morning, everyone! We're back from a short vacation with friends to the mountains of NC. It was a fun time driving the twisty mountain roads.   Now it's back to reality of cutting grass, washing windows and putting in screens and putting out the porch furniture. Coming home to warmer weather than when we left is glorious.   Happy Anniversary @Willow!    I hope your family is feeling better @KymmieL - my wife and I shared a stomach virus several weeks ago that was horrid.   Hang in there @Birdie, it will all work out!!   Have a wonderful day, everyone!

I think many Christians end up with a false dichotomy.  If we didn't choose to be how we are, then something in our environment did it. Is going along with it a sin?  Maybe.  But if so, its one of those times where we mess something up no matter what we do.  Part of the imperfect nature of this fallen world is that there are times where we'll sin no matter what we do.  In a no-win scenario like that, we do the wisest thing possible with our free will.

This is the crux of my anguish these many, many months (years!) and where I go back-and-forth with my own journey ... I was born a biological male. No denying that in my case. But I have a lot of internal feminine leanings and external ones, too. I prefer to wear women's clothes 100 percent of the time (if I could). I wish I had the female plumbing. I long for that badly sometimes. I don't know why or where that came from but no denying that either. I have started HRT because I like the idea of having a more feminine physical body and some of the "perks" that go with that. I just asked my doc to up my dose to the next level today!   So the big question I ask myself is: am I knowingly disobeying God, who likes order and made humans male and female, by taking these steps? This is my wife's take on things. "You are sinning. You know God made you a male biologically. Yet you are willfully pursuing transition to being something God didn't intend you to be regardless of what you feel inside, what your preferences are, etc."  I keep trying to tell her it's much more complex than that but sometimes I don't even know what I think...   This ties up in knots and makes me angry and makes me feel stuck!!! I don't want to disobey my Creator and Savior and yet I have this strong, strong leaning toward the feminine in many ways (that keeps getting stronger and refuses to go away no matter how much I have tried to stuff it away!!) ... It feels like misery no matter which path I take - if I "give in" to the feminine, which I have been doing a lot the past 12 months or so, am I endangering my soul? Am I creating scandal? Yet the thought of putting the feminine aside feels, at times, like death too (or is it just me being self-centered and unwilling to bend the knee to my Creator who would ask me to give this up as a testament to my love for him...   I don't know. I don't know. I don't know!! But sometimes I really really F***ing hate this quandary...

We use a ton of Harbor Freight stuff here.  They have pretty good warranty, too, I guess.  GF beats all heck out of sockets and things, and if she takes them back they get replaced for free.  Harbor Freight was junk 20 years ago, but its really good now.  Craftsman used to be good 20 years ago, but now its junk (but they still want to charge made-in-the-usa prices).  Dewalt is now Chinese also, when it used to be made in Germany.  Older Dewalt tools are good, but GF got a really bad hand injury a few years ago from a Chinese Dewalt drill bit that shattered.  Some of the name brands just aren't what they used to be.

Honestly, all the numbers are monkey math.  Doesn't matter who's in charge.  Trump kept crowing about the damn stock market, which didn't make a difference to normal people.  All the "job creation" is an illusion.  They consider it job creation when they take good full time jobs, and split them in half to "make" two part-time or temp jobs.  Not totally a Biden problem, as this has been going on for decades now.  Things *began* to get better under Trump.  A bit.  Maybe 8 years would have been better, but it wouldn't have fixed it.  Too much damage.    To me, Trump is a case of "too little, too late."  In my opinion, we need more - a true nationalist, with an aggressive and isolationist foreign policy.  And we needed him 50 years ago.  I want to see:   High import tariffs, a currency backed by precious metals, no more "climate" stuff and repudiation of all "accords" or other agreements, elimination of excess government agencies like the FBI and EPA, and total seizure of foreign-owned assets on US soil - with sale and disbursement of profits to our citizens.  And that would be a basic start.  Instead of "sanctions" to interrupt the trade of nations we don't like, Congress should instead issue letters-of-marque as described in the Constitution.  I'd like to see an alliance with Russia, and an end to nearly a century of useless conflict.    Trump won't do any of those things.  He's a sad, pale imitation of the leaders that founded our nation.

Well I got some terrible news today. My therapist is a doctoral intern at the VA. Her internship is ending the end of July. Normally interns just continue with the VA after their degree is done. However, VA has a hiring freeze on. So, I am going to loose one of the best therapists I have ever had. One that actually cares about me. I do have a few months till she leaves, Thankfully.   Other than that. my wife and youngest are both sick. Don't know if they got it worse that I had on Thurs/Friday. Or I am destine to get it too.   I've got tools that range from cheapy flea market stuff all the way up to high grade, Mac and Snap-on. Most have lasted me for quite a long time. I am diligently trying to keep my happy arse out or the Snap-on truck when he comes every Thurs. So far, I have resisted. But the temptation is there.   Kymmie

IMO: If politicians stopped focusing on which bathrooms people were using and, you know, the actual issues of the country, maybe we could work on that 30+ trillion dollar debt of ours? Put more effort into international cooperation? Consider ways to improve education? Literally anything more productive than worrying about what's in some lady's pants you'll never meet?

I have been thinking of this one a bit today since my first response here.  If you check out the relation that Peter had with Jesus and you can see that even Jesus was criticized for being who Jesus was by Peter.  In that relationship which I have come to think was more of a Chosen Family situation than genetic family,  Peter was telling Jesus who Peter thought Jesus should be. Especially when it came to Jesus being killed for what his true identity was.  Transgender is very much an issue of identity and not primarily about sexuality.  Sexuality is the BIG thing with certain religious groups and if you look at it, it is always about pro-creating kids into certain genealogies and making them new church members.

Good evening   @Adrianna Danielle wow 13 years out of a harbor freight tool.  That’s amazing, and lucky.  I read an article recently about how harbor freight does make inexpensive tools. It seems that some percentage of them are expected to fail in some manner.  However they are typically made with the same laborers  parts design as name brand high end tools.  If you get a good one it can last for a long time.

Happy anniversary @Willow!   Good luck, @Birdie!   Congratulations on the new gear @Adrianna Danielle!   My family is currently considering a big move. My wife applied for and received an offer for a job in WA. If all things are equal I am down for a change of scenery, but it’s not that simple. Much maths are about to happen…wish me luck! ;)

Or they could live and let live and not clog the courts with games of roulette? To absolve the attempt based on a perceived chance of success is gambling in another guise.   Sure, it could all be marketing to gin up the base, but we see it constantly getting pushed at the local, State, and Federal levels. Don’t we want lawmakers focused on issues of import? Maybe we’re a distraction, but that means we become social targets. If we’re really just a side show game to them, they obviously don’t give a damn what the repercussions are for us; we’re just lambs for slaughter. So why support people or adjacent policies that do that to us? Why believe these jaguars won’t eat your face when they tell you that, if they can, they will?

Manufacturing jobs have increased by nearly 800k since Biden’s inauguration. Deficits and debt are up as well, which water down some of the positive metrics.  Given the fact we were coming out of a pandemic and then into a global economy affected by a Russian aggression and then a war in the Middle East, things wouldn’t be ideal. But we’re not on a gold standard anymore. Government budgets aren’t household budgets. Inflation was up but is coming down, which means that government spending isn’t uncontrolled.  Honest news media? Which news are we referring to? I recommend looking into Ground.news and their blind spot feature. It will show you, regardless of your leanings, what you’re not seeing in your typically consumed news.    MAGA is not about making America great again or otherwise. It’s a marketing cult for populist conservatism, aka the cult of Trump. America being great is not bad or a bad idea, but its choice as the moniker of the campaign is not-so-subtle political marketing. By default, no one wants to argue against the idea, however it creates a dichotomy where “the other side must not want (or is actively trying to destroy) it”. It’s an empty slogan because America was no greater during the Trump years and you can logically argue our global cache was diminished during his term, which was marked by sentiment of the US being a unilateral agitator.

smiles I think I need to help him find a way to simply love others, regardless of identifying with them or understanding their journey..but I thought I recall stories of Jesus being asked which of 10 laws were greatest..n the answer being 1. God us God n have no other gods you worship..asking forgiveness to friends who practice religions with polydieties..but I think catholic say 1 god..n the 2nd rule is almost as important..love each other as I have loved you   maybe if I can focus him on we all believe God wants us to love n help each..maybe he'll forget the footnote he seems to be inserting, unless they are lgbt..then they go to hell...nerd   sorry probably too politically charged..delete if so with my apologies  hugs to all who want them
