Doctor News And A New Doctor's Order! -- Whoopi Time

About a month ago I was grouching about having picked up another yeast infection, and finally after waiting four weeks for it to clear up after two doctor visits. I got told that I really should get an actual Gynecology appointment to see what was going on. I had to wait for 8 days to get the appointment and while my ouchy dilations did not get worse, the were still ouchy. OK I went to the appointment with my Gynecologist and got to catch up on things in the two years since I last saw her.

First off, she is now officially the Post Op Transsexual Specialist for my Kaiser health center and I am not her only Trans* patient, although I was about the only non-pregnant female in the waiting room when I got there, thus no other Trans* folk in there that day.

She has also now met my surgeon (Bowers) in person, and other SRS surgeons including Toby Meltzer who does the surgery Kaiser California covers these days and done some training with them on post op care. Talk about progressive. The first time I had seen my Gyno I had done paperwork so she could contact Marci for me. I guess now it is a colleague thing today.

Turns out that my yeast infection had cleared up, but the inside of my vagina was very dry. I have been doing Marci's daily dilation schedule even though it has been uncomfortable as hell since the end of March, but I have done it. A check of my records and I had not had hormone levels checked in 6 months, which it seems can lead to vaginal dryness if they are low. A set of Labs on the E and T levels were ordered, for my Endo to evaluate and possibly up my E levels or shift me to a new delivery method, but in the meantime I was given a vaginal E cream to shoot in every three days. Supposedly I do have estrogen receptors in my vagina area at 2.5 years now and I will get additional system E that way.

Last element of my visit was a review of my sex life!! Yes my sex life, which does not exist, damn it. My Gyno cracked up at the way I said it, but I cracked up at her next set of orders for me. I am now under orders to either get a human partner or to be sure to self gratify a couple of times a week and keep the new parts in working order. Seems that while dilation is a good thing, that keeping the nerves active is good too and necessary. What a life.

You have been the trailblazer I have watched for so long. I'm glad that the medical field is finally starting to get it.

Did she offer to introduce you to her brother? That is a doctors order i've never contemplated. Maybe with the extra E in your system your radar will lead you to a life even farther from your wildest dreams. Hope so. It would certainly be worth a try.

It's been way over a year now since I've been skipping thru the tulips, with no end to that in site. Oh well!

Hmm, I can hardly wait to get the right parts for that kind of a Doctor's visit though .

Actually though - joking aside. I do remember reading here somewhere recently, that the poster had started to try to ensure that she learned all about the new nerves and the pleasant new sensations they could give her AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It's something I intend to do once I start to recover from my surgery in less than a month now. There used to be a saying - 'Use it, don't lose it'. The sooner you start to encourage all of those sensitive nerves to recover, the better.

My surgery will be in July, Kerry, and I plan much the same, with the caveat to trust my body when it says stop, or do something different, especially early on. A few friends have warned me that a lot of early effort is going to go into just retraining muscles to accept and handle the dilators, and to successfully graduate upward in dilator size while maintaining depth. I've got several friends who've been helpful in terms of advice like that, even suggesting things to take with me to Thailand to make life easier. But the most repeated statement was to trust my body and go slow when it demands to go slow.

Aside from all the humor, this really is a serious topic. You are so fortunate to have this level of post-op medical care!

I was fortunate from the start in a couple important areas--first, I was always blessed with girth, so dilation has never been painful or burdensome for me; second, Dr. McGinn did give me a year long prescription for Estrace vaginal cream at my 6 month follow up appointment and said it would help keep things moist as well as help the thin skin thicken as it continued healing.

But I have had the hardest time trying to get adequate post-op medical care at home ever since. I specifically asked my surgeon via email on more than one occasion if regular sexual function was going to be a health issue, but I never received an answer on that question. I know the prostate (g-spot) becomes very diminished, but I always heard that if it is not exercised, it can cause problems such as difficulty relieving the bladder. The explanation you regarding keeping nerves and muscles active makes sense too. Losing control of those can lead to the opposite problem--incontinence upon sneezing, laughing, etc.

I can relate to having no sex life. It's not that I haven't had offers or been tempted. But I'm still too ashamed of my private body parts because I never got to finish what I started. I even went through a long period (after my in-office revision) of being incapable of climax, but now that I sorta can again, it is so much work that I rarely make the effort. But now I wonder if the price I'm paying is in the fact that I'm always the slowest woman in the restroom. And I can't even be totally open with any local doctors about my entire situation. When I tried that before, I got no where. The only way I am even getting the care I get now is by going to several different places and only telling each of them as little as necessary. We can't all live in California.
