First session with therapist

Hi everyone. I just returned from my first session seeing a therapist. It wasn't a Gender Therapist (I'm on a 3 month waiting list for that!), but it went better than I expected. He seemed to understand what I was saying and he promised to do his own research before our next session so that he has a better understanding of how to help me. I didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised.

By the time I left his office, I was feeling ok with myself. I didn't feel like there was something "wrong" with me. I'm just me! :)

Anyway, that was just the first session, which was probably more of an introduction and him getting to know what my problem is. ( I use the word "problem" loosely!!!). I'm looking forward to the second session next week.

I wish my wife was here right now so I can share this with her. I'm about to leave for work tonight, and she won't be back till after I have gone. I'll have to hold out till tomorrow after she finishes work.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that.

Congratulations there girl. The ball is rolling and it will get better. Who knows, you might break in a new Gender Therapist. They all started as garden variety therapists.

Congrats on your session going well... mine always left me close to panic attacks until I was honest with myself and her. Now I feel off if I miss my appointments.

I really like this statement! " I didn't feel like there was something "wrong" with me. I'm just me! :)"

That is a huge step forward. Sounds like it is going very well.

Hugs,

Charlize

HellI all. I am currently on an overseas holiday with my wife. Having a great holiday, but I am also having a bit of a hard time with my dysphoria. There are lots of people around, and I see way more women every day than I do in my normal daily travels at home. On holidays, I inevitably see someone wearing something or has a certain look that triggers something in my head. I don't know exactly what triggers my dysphoria to go into overdrive, but over the last couple of weeks it is becoming a little hard to manage. Still got another 2 1/2 weeks of holiday. I hope I can keep myself sane.

Had my first session with my GT last friday. Being with Kaiser it was nice that my therapist and him had talked. Not sure what to make of it, but he did say I should stop overthinking it. He also noted that with my history of dysphoria, he definitely felt I was transgender.

Was out with friends yesterday away from wife, not thinking about it too much (trying to follow his advice).During that time, even amongst just guys, I felt female. Still figuring myself out :banghead: .

Congrats to both of you! The figuring out is the journey. Time takes time, it goes quickly if we are transparent and totally honest! Look vastly into your horizons, it's a lifetime deal. Relax, breathe and enjoy the discoveries! Hug. JodyAnn

Good afternoon M.A.   Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums, I think you'll find that there are a lot of us who had their first therapist reconsidering our story and recommended us to gender or LGBTQIA specific therapist. I made my first therapist cry after asking me what was my worst experience or memory. She was not prepared for the can of worms I brought to the couch. My second therapist is a gem, she's my age and knows how to work with my thoughts.    My two kids were also involved in the arts programs in school one in theater, the other combined art and modern music.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Welcome.   This can be a good sounding board and a place to say things you otherwise could not. Be yourself. Find out what that is.   Abby

I'm wearing a white t shirt and jeans.  The t-shirt is softer than a man's and slightly girly.  Feeling kinda pretty.

That's very common in internet forums and it is hard not to take it personally sometimes.   You might post "bump" with a smiley face to bring it to the top of the stack, or you might use the @ feature if there are certain people you would really like to have comment on it, and say something like Dear Abby, I would really like your input on this.  Please take a minute and respond.  Thanks!!!

The same for me... That's exactly were MmIndy came from. I started choosing female skins as soon as they became available in the few games I played.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Something else I noticed @Ladypcnj Since I use the Unread tab, I don't see threads I've read again until someone replies to it, or the author adds something.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good morning @Ladypcnj   Some posts get lost in the busy times here. It also maters how people navigate the site. Some only look at their notifications, or tap the All Activity tab which shows them thread they've commented on. (how I see it)... I on the other hand use the Unread tag under Activity. I don't think people ignore post as much as they get caught up reading threads they've already been active in.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

What to do if post is being ignored?

LOL.  I have done this more than once.

Oh yeah, I forgot,    @awkward-yet-sweetwhen your husband finally breaks down and decides to replace the stoves I agree a single professional stove even out of a defunct restaurant might well be the way to go when cooking for all those kids and adults. Certainly better that the situation you describe.  Or maybe from a used restaurant supply where they have professionally cleaned and refurbished it.
