Here is Gov.Christie's veto statement:

http://www.nj.gov/governor/news/news/552015/pdf/20150810b/S1195AV.PDF

I think the legislature should accept his challenge and resubmit the bill with whatever reasonable "safeguards" he requires. Then we'll see if its really about the safeguards, or about politics.

I would just like to know what safeguards those are. For all we know it would be a safeguard against someone getting it altered without SRS.

As far as politics, I expect sending him the bill again without addressing whatever concerns was politically motivated in order to claim he vetoed it twice.

It won't happen, but better yet would be to override his veto as is.

More from Gov. Christie:

From his comments, its very clear (to me, at least) that his objections to the bill have nothing to do with "safeguards" and everything to do with the idea that one isn't a proven trans person until they have surgery, as well as election year politics.

You still can't correct a birth certificate in Ohio even after GCS! So I can't get too excited about my governor (Kasich) going to a gay wedding and talking about God's unconditional love.

This is strictly politics for Christie. He only used the pocket veto during his reelection campaign for governor. The GLBT community in the state was actually something of a threat and he wanted big win numbers to help his chances with a run for president. Now he need conservative votes.

Yesterday's surgery gets me a new birth certificate but many can't do that for many reasons. I simply hate the man's politics.

Here is a thread concerning his veto from a few days ago:

Realistically, of all documents, unless one has a felon record that precludes getting a passport, a birth certificate isn't particularly necessary.

For a lot of folks, it isn't whether its necessary. It is the process of feeling complete and leaving that other person and that other life behind. It is a psychological benefit which can be very important to many. Frankly, there just isn't any good reason not to change the law which has served folks in other states so well.

I don't disagree with that Carolyn although I would suggest resolving the internal issues that cause that need.

I was just noting, for those who might feel the world is coming to an end that it isn't the end of the world.

I just tell people I don't have a birth certificate and I can't get one. I refuse to use one with the wrong information on it. Still, I have it hanging over my head that a time will come when, for some reason, there will be a demand for it. I just don't know. If that time comes, I will be screwed. Yes, I have that "give me liberty or give me death" mentality. So maybe the world will come to an end, when it comes down to it. I hope not.

I am adopted and my birth certificate is an Ohio sealed court document, therefore I'm not at liberty to show you the certificate. Here, please use my United States of America federal passport as the verification you seek. If you have any concerns of the validity of that option, I will gladly contact the EEOC for your verification.

Two can play at that game! It's all very true. Ohio gives me the same grief, but they sealed the documents. Touche!

I have a Durable Power of Attorney, for my half brother. He has requested that his name or personal information not be referenced into any processes not related to hiring him.

"Dear Gov. Chrissy, Please correct my spelling. I think you are a doof barg. Please grow a human spine, preferably one with a brain attached!" I wouldn't hug you if you were doused in hand sanitizer. Blyuck... That's Miss Jody to you little boy.

 Thanks JodyAnn.
Drea, It is certainly true that a birth certificate isn't necessary. I'm not sure i will bother to get mine changed even though i can even by our govenator's rules. It is more the matter of an overall attitude that the man is showing. I do hope we don't get him or anyone sharing his views in the White House.

TN is the same way and there is even a law on the books from the late 1970's that says it's illegal to change the gender of a birth certificate as a result of surgery. Whereas Ohio refuses to have a policy to allow a change.

I just keep my passport current and no issues. A passport trumps a birth certificate for required documents anytime. So I just make sure I keep it up to date. As for as I'm concerned, my TN birth certificate will never see the light of day since my passport has all the correct information.

This sounds just like typical US politics in NJ and so predictable (Christie looks like a real dork to me), sorry for those that live there.

Regarding birth cert. It's the paper change I do want. It's really not for the here and now and has no real practical benefit that I can imagine at this moment. Like others I have a US passport with female for that. I want this change for her legacy. Think of all those data miners out there that access public records and you get the idea. Someday in the future others may link my birth record to something (maybe not), as my ashes are being scattered, her memory lives on, she was born, and she lived one day. That's what matters to me regarding a birth cert record update, and it's not a lot of $$ to do it either. I also have estate documents prepared that help with her legacy as well. It makes me sad when I read about those that die and have their true identity erased by others, really sad.

I could be described, I suppose, as a RWNJ.   A little stereotyping seems to be going on.  Don't complain about Trans stereotypes if you turn around and stereotype others.  A lot of RWNJs are actually decent people and get called that by people who pick up on one or two alleged beliefs.  I would rather single out influential individuals of whatever camp and call them to correction.   Trans folk are a small minority, even as small minorities go.  There are probably a lot more RWNJs running around than there are trans folk.

They cut a lot of trees here as well.  A lot of them toward the coast end up chipped up and sent to Europe to burn in power plants.  That bothers me, seems like a dumb idea.

Most likely.   Unfortunately this was expected.  I expect it will be the norm in any GOP controlled state that hasn't already done it.  So much effort expended against so few.  I certainly haven't seen my area being overrun by trans kids.   And yeah, I fully expect them to go after my HRT next. I think those that are railing against us are much more dangerous than some non-binary high school sophomore.

Her name is Sunny and she is so much fun. But, as you said @KymmieL, it is a challenge with a new puppy. Thankfully our 13 year old Lab is taking the addition in stride and being supremely tolerant.

It should be the league's business whether it allows trans women to play, not the park's.   (They seem to be inclusive - good on them)

Sticking my neck out here, but that's what I see the RWNJ's doing all the time! They always need someone or something to "fight". Everything is a contest to them; there's always a battle to be had, an opponent to defeat, a dragon to slay, then another, and another.    *Sigh* if only they'd put their energy into working with people instead of against them.

I think i became much more emotional overall.  Perhaps because use a topical E i haven't had the swings that some folks feel but i can laugh  and cry so much easier, sometimes over situations i would never have seen before.  Perhaps my age has something to do with it, but i am also much more peaceful and accepting of the storm life keeps presenting.   Hugs,   Charlize

I think the interpretation of the question is always going to provide a wide array of answers. Do I have a rich inner life? Yes! Why? Good question!   Circumstances often dictate how we feel within ourselves. I don't have to deal with work anymore and we've been jus' cruzin ever since. I don't have to fix anything, literal or otherwise. My wife and I live a relatively simple life and we are true partners, but deep inside, I'm not answerable to anyone except myself. So, how's that going? Well, since I came out to myself, which happened before I stopped working, I have felt an inner glow that was never apparent before. It is permanent now and it sustains me. How? Effed if I know! All I know is that even if I have down days, and there certainly have been a few, my heart, mind and soul are still smiling. I think it comes from a realization that I am finally happy just to be me.

I had to look this acronym up.  That certainly has never been part of the LGBTQ community!  Politicians simply attempt to use peoples disgust to create the hate or fear they can "fight" against to win support and power.   Hugs,   Charlize

Congrats, @April Marie on your new fur kid. As the mom to a 1 yr old fur kid. I know what you are going through. LOL.   Back to work after a good weekend. I hope that work doesn't drag my good weekend down. However, I believe it is wishful thinking. I will do the best that I can, if that is not enough. They can jump in a fing lake.   I have another week until my therapist appointment. So I hope I can make it. it seems my depression is getting worse. Can it, is there something lower that major?  Especially when dealing with work. So, I know I have to get out of there. I have put in for the parts at the local GM. Probably, be like Ford. OH, well nothing ventured nothing gained.      Hope everyone has a good day. Hugs, Kymmie

If what you mean by defemination  is that folks are doubting or refusing to believe your feminity i'm sure others here have felt that.  I know i have in the past.  It seems to be part of the continuous attempt by some to see us all quietly hiding in the closet.   I don't fit in there anymore.   Hugs,   Charlize

      Yay!!! 😀 What's her name?

Yep, I can see that too, especially if satire goes wrong.  I can totally understand why the uneducated hoi polloi think that gender identity and sexual preference (and now, pedophilia) are one and the same, and it weaponizes their bigotry. I touched on this in another thread recently when I asked the question whether the LGBTQIA+ umbrella was actually too inclusive and should be split, in an attempt to stop this sort of nonsense. I don't know the answer; while I think it is important for non-cis and non-het folk to band together, it leaves us wide open to attack.

Good morning, everyone!   Sorry I've been absent so much. I truly miss the interaction with you all.    We have a new yellow Lab female puppy in the house as of Saturday so it's a challenge to find time to be here as we get her settled into a schedule, work on housebreaking and training, etc.    So, I'll check in as I can...when I can get a few minutes as she sleeps.   She slept 6 hours last night so we're making progress and we've been attentive to her schedule so no accidents in the house as of now.   She's consistently following the Sit command already - the wonder of puppy treats.    Be safe!!
