Ftm's In The Uk?

I was wondering if any FtM’s in the UK transitioning on the NHS can give me some advice. I have seen a physiatrist twice now, and have been referred to the specialist clinic at Charing Cross in Central London. I have my first appointment there next week.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect? What will they ask? What will I have to do?

They wrote in a letter to me that after the first two trips to the clinic I may be offered hormones. Can anyone advise me on how far apart these appointments might be? I’m quite anxious to begin the hormone treatment, and get my life sorted out. I really want all of this to hurry up.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

basically I'm up north so i dont know if its at all different down there.

i was told i would need to (because of guidelines) be seeing them for at least a yr before i saw anything close to HRT. i'm not so bothered.. i think it will be 2 appointments for you at 6 months apart. mine are 3 months apart but its less busy in scotland than it is there. my doc also told me that basically you see them for (how ever many visits you can fit into a yr) then you get assessed by the psychiatrist (ive had that at the very beginning, dont know if it will be the same in london) and they need a second opinion from another doc... THEN you get the perscription for hormones, but only if they feel youre ready. even if it has been a yr we are still at their mercy

- hope this helps

Hey, guys, thanks for the advice.

My appointment seemed to go well. I have approval for the HRT from one GIC, and was told that I need one other approval. I have to wait 4 months until the next appointment. I was a bit dissapointed at first, because for some reason I thought it would be sooner, but I was told that it's actually quite good. So hopefully at the next appointment I should get another approval, and then I can begin. I really hope so.

i am one step along than you as in i have seen my secound chx visit i had to wait 6 months between my 2 appts though because they had a backlog and was moveing but thats ok i got there in the end well i see my secound appt and was given the ok for hormones so thats good.

I found on both appts that they just wanted to ask loads of questions and things but that was no bother i mean i just answered the truth and that went find. I had my first T shot 2 weeks ago i am on one shot a month :D
