Made appointment @ Planned Parenthood for HRT?

So i just made an appointment at Planned Parenthood because i read online that they actually provide services for trans folk, including hormone replacement therapy, which i cant believe i never knew this before. So i gave them a call to kind of see what the steps would be, the woman said that the first appointment is a 90 minute intake/consultation type of thing, and after that the 2nd appointment would be health tests, etc followed by deciding what dosage of T to order for me (yea they said order), and that after that it would just be going in to start my shots.

She made it sound so simple and the qualifications were so simple i guess its blowing my mind. I've been struggling with trying to find a way to get my dang hormone replacement process started for the past 7 years, and everytime id take a step i'd end up falling right back to square one because of money reasons, and because i did not have health insurance so the cost of everything was much more than i was making. i even saw a therapist for about 6 months for the sole reason of getting him to write me my hormone therapy "approval letter" or whatever, because my primary care doc was trying to help me out but said she needed the letter. Turns out i missed 3 silly therapy payments and this guy pretty much refused to see me anymore and didnt want to write the letter cuz he knew once i got it i wasnt going to be paying him for therapy visits any longer (so theres the problem with small business private therapists ha)

So my main reason for this forum post is to see if any of you have gone to planned parenthood for hormone therapy or know anyone that has, and what to expect. is it really going to be as simple as theyve made it sound?

hope to get some responses, thanks for reading

I think it sounds wonderful and if no one else posts that they have been there please share your experiences. I know several folks for whom this could be very positive.

By the way welcome to Laura's. Hopefully you will hang around and get to know some of us. You might want to also post in the introduction forum just to say 'hi'.

Hugs,

Charlize

This sounds like Arch Clinic for me. All I had to do was "self refer myself". I had a consultation with the coordinator, then the next appointment about a month later I seen the Endocrinologist and was prescribed Testosterone blockers. Then the next appointment I was prescribed Estrogen :)

I think you can see where this is going. Isn't it great when things hormonally just fall into place? :)

never heard of this before... and there are no PP in my area, or I'd volunteer to go see if they do that here.......

keep us updated. that sounds really cool and hassle free... do you already have a letter from a therapist?

I'm curious about logistics.

Thanks for sharing this bit of information. I'm going to look into this option. I've been trying to find a gender therapist, but the nearest one is 60 miles away. So maybe they can help me with that. I'm also seriously considering HRT now. This bit of information is especially helpful to me because I live about 10 miles from a planned parenthood.

I saw this concert in which it is said that the famous phrase of Jon Landau "I saw the future of rock and roll and his name is Bruce Springsteen" comes from that night. By the way Bruce opened for Bonnie Raitt that night and she was the better performer . . . just sayin'.

Astronomy and astrophotography.  I have done a few public presentations on the subject and could most likely wing it for an hour without putting you to sleep.   On the other hand if you need a sleeping pill, I could also talk for an hour about flying and you'd be out cold.

Please consider joining us, even if it's just for a few minutes to see what the meetings are like. I've learned so much, had so much fun and gained confidence in myself just by being a part of this amazing group of people. It's a low key, no pressure, non-judgmental chance to just be among people who are supportive, understanding and affirming of each other.    I'm travelling out of state and still planning on dropping in for awhile.    Come see what it's like!!

Thank you, Susan!! It was such an amazing experience for me. I can't remember if I even talked about it on a Zoom meeting.   Here is the link to the post I made about it. And, again, thank you for helping to give me the courage to do it.

Good morning coffees   This probably doesn’t exactly apply to me because you wouldn’t have found a more shy and conservative person than me.  I was perhaps less shy before my sister started complaining about me doing things that were hers to do. And I would become embarrassed and that was the end of that.   upstairs unit got their typical weekend visitors in the middle of the night last night.  They woke me up.  They have little consideration for being in a condo community and the neighbors being in such close proximity.   @awkward-yet-sweet , how goes the job with your husband’s boss?  I don’t recall you saying much about it this week, but I could have missed a post along the way.  If I recall you were supposed to meet with him last Monday.   @KymmieL I hope you are feeling better.     Yes, I find it to be wrong that just because a car part says Ford or Chevrolet on the box that same part with Lincoln or Cadillac on the box cost a lot.more.  I know there are differences in the upscale brands such as the engine and drivetrain in the Caddy and of course the interior fit and finish.  But it’s the same body with things crammed in the same way under the hood.     well, time to finish my coffee, fix my hair and made my way across the street to work.    willow

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.
