Estrogen Pills vs patches

Hi,

I had a question about estrogen patches is it just as effective as the pills? My doctor changed be from a low dose of estradiol pills to Mylan patches lowest dose twice a week due to possible side effects of the pills. I just don't why my doctor put me on such a small dose. Can the patches still be effective at a small dose with finastride. I can't take spiro due to complications,

Thanks

I was taken off a very low dose of oral E that I had been on since July of 2009 recently due to a blood clot in my leg that developed at 6 years and 3 months. Most of my transitioning partners in crime that had higher doses felt that my level would be ineffective due to its lack of size. By two years or less, I had breast size that equaled one sister's size, and exceeded the other sister's size, I have a womanly figure and hair patterns on my body, and actually even my beard hair became finer in texture to the point I really do not have a shadow any more. None of my cohorts got anything seriously better that could not have been predicted by looking at family members, which annoyed them to the point of having Breast Augmentation in three cases, and some FFS in another couple. I inquired about FFS and was told to save money since my facial features were within a range of normal to good for women. My Endo has kept track of me and her other patients, and will be twisting arms for the lower doses as time comes.

In a few months, when we are sure my blood clot has cleared out, my Endo and my ObGyn will put me on the patches at the equivalent dose I had been on orally, since the patch is now proven safer that way. Remember that natal females take nearly 9 years to fully mature on their hormones (I was the single father of two daughters who had to put up with them during their puberty so I have experience watching that). Trust your doctor on their wisdom about your meds. We have people who have tried to hurry the job and no longer can hurry anything.

I'm on patches twice weekly and they are fine for me. I've been on them for 2 1/2 years now and my body is still changing/developing. I've got b boobs and hips - so I can say that they do work. Don't rush and let nature take her course.

I used patches (Vivelle-Dot) for 14 months, they were easy to use and convenient, kinda pricey even with insurance. Blood E numbers never reached female levels with them, I had problems absorbing enough E using this method. Switch to injections a bit over 3 years ago, and love my curves....

I'm also using patches with a low dose now due to the safety. From what i understand excess E doesn't make things faster or better just more dangerous.

Hi, I have been on the Estrodial patch, started weekly and at the beginning of December I was upped to twice a week. It has worked great for me, getting breast development and my hips and thighs look wonderful! I know the patch is easier on your liver plus I have issue with injections (I faint). Be patient and let the magic happen!

Hugs

I echo the have patience in second puberty. By all means keep tabs on your hormone levels. Anything within normal pre menopausal female should work fine.

I started on oral and now long time home injections, so I'm no authority on patches. Hug. JodyAnn

Do be aware that clots can develop from use of the patch, and there may be no warning until it's too late.

Had I not mentioned an episode of sudden shortness of breath to a nurse during a routine doctor visit, I wouldn't be here to tell the story. I was walking around with binary pulmonary embolism. They sent me right to the ER.

That was in January, after ten years of being on transdermal estradiol exclusively and under a doctor's care.

Kenna, my Endocrinologist doubts that my blood clot was caused exclusively by my hormones since my dose has been near minimum over the years. Sitting on my tush most of the summer, and making a long air-line flight with another type of infection in my leg and a few days after getting back, going on a long car trip with pressure on my legs where the clot occurred probably bore the bulk of responsibility. When we are on hormone therapy we simply need to take care of ourselves. Your caution here though is one I agree with, there is no one safest way to do it.

Kenna, there are all sorts of reasons that clots can materialise. Did you enquire during the time you were being treated if the clot was attributable to the HRT? It's easy to blame an 'obvious' cause but not necessarily that which was diagnosed as the actual cause. Just a point.

Yes, the clots were attributed to HRT by both the attending physician and by my endocrinologist.

Other suspects such as long distance driving, airline travel or sedentary lifestyle were absent in my case.

As much as we hate to admit it and i do there is a great deal of research linking clotting to E. Dr McGinn was using a spray with me as it seems to be less problematic than even the patch or cream. I'm only using the patch until my new insurance comes in and i can get the spray again. All of my doctors including my cardiologist are quite concerned about the clotting issue. It is real. New research has made that even more apparent. Unfortunately not much of it is done with the trans* community but unfortunately the results from cis women are worrisome. I'm on some very powerful blood thinners and i pray that will help. My last heart attack was the result of not taking my aspirin as i had for years. Within weeks of stopping i was in an ambulance. HRT is nothing to play with. As i understand it using the smallest does possible is just as effective and safer. Like everyone else i have that temptation to up the dose but also have lived(close call) through the possible results.

I'm glad this issue is coming up as we all face this difficulty and once we start we want more and faster. I know that is the case with me. I have the urge to up my dose even though......... I'm trying to be a good girl and live a bit longer.

Hugs,

Charlize

Do I ever feel? There isn't a single minute that goes by that I feel that way. I have such a strong hate for what I have that there isn't a word out there for it.

I already tried that. Either too old like 60's and 70's or married. Not many people who would want to date a trans woman in dead red Mississippi. Maybe once things calm down just get a Mustang GT and just give up on it. Both are going to bring joy and pain. At least I could learn and share my love of cars with my kids when they get that old. I wouldn't even know what to do if someone said they wanted me. I would've already been thinking in my mind they are just going to ghost me so what's the point. I just don't know what to do anymore. I tried putting myself out there online and out in person. I haven't tried a bar yet although that's probably a bad idea. Maybe just to experience it again. I haven't been to one since 2013. The only problem I see is I'm not a night owl for sure. I go to bed at 8-830. My expectations were just that I wouldn't get rejected last. I have been able to handle a good bit of it but this one really hurt. I guess that's what happens when you have some hopes and expectations. It's not like I have another friend IRL to talk about this. She is my only one. I wished I didn't put myself out there.

As one who had to deal with the Porn/Adult Entertainment business as commercial, taxpaying businesses on a professional level, I can say that they are in it for money and the highest percentage of their income comes from ultra conservative areas where adequate Medical and Mental Health Profession and University Science instruction on Trans issues are banned.    It makes me wonder how much porn literature is hidden behind the 13 Bibles and Bible Study guides on some people's family bookshelves.

Do you ever feel trapped in a body that doesn't feel like yours?

There's the old thing of getting out and getting involved in things in the community and meeting people that way. Does your church have a food pantry? Does it have service opportunities you could plug into otherwise? You might run into someone that way.
    • Ashley0616
Well that didn't go well. She said she is intentionally single. When will I just stop thinking about putting myself out there. It really hurt but rejection and getting ghosted is just my second language apparently. The one person I have told all my dark secrets and didn't run off. At least we are friends. I'm happy only when I'm sleeping and that is it because things actually go my way from time to time. Just another wonderful day of me. SMDH!

In their minds, yes, unless it is clearly, consistently, forcefully articulated by those who represent trans people that we are not.  I'm not sure who that would be.

So, this proves that we're all  pedophiles? I suspect that the majority of pedophiles are probably cis.   Yeah, Alexander the Great was probably queer.  What does this have to do with me needing to pee?   I am so tired of this ___.  I raised 8 kids and never molested any of them - unless you count changing diapers without closing my eyes.  Yeah… so tired.   It makes me wonder what is actually on these people's minds.

Whew! I don't think I want to see that age unless I can still function normally although my family hasn't gotten to live that long. The oldest lived to see 80.
