First Time Trying To Pass

I have posted here forever, so it might be of interest for everyone to know that although I often present female and apparently pass in public, I have never actively TRIED to pass, where I had to use my girl voice and my 'attitude' to make it work.

Yesterday I had this chance, took it, and passed very well. It must have been a good day for me, because I actually was dressed presenting male. :P

I took my wife to her Dr's appointment. When we got to the office I was ahead of her as she had stopped to use the bathroom. So I went up to the receptionist window and asked for the sign in form - "yes ma'm right here" (MA'M???), I signed it for my wife, waiting for her to come in. The receptionist said, "Mrs. xxxxx, I need you to fill this information form to see if it is current." (MRS???) So I took it and reviewed it and said it was. She asked me to sign it and have a seat. That's when I chickened out and said, ummmm... "Actually I am waiting for my wife to come in and she can sign it then." She said, "You aren't Mrs. xxxxx?" "No," I said, "I am her husband." The poor receptionist blinked a couple of times and then backpeddled - "I am so sorry..." etc... I said, "No problem, I am looking kinda androgynous these days." She just stared at me...

I was so thrilled to get by with it - this was at an ObGyn office. I could have probably played it to them taking me into the exam room - wow. And I as NOT particularly presenting female, no make-up, no purse, no earrings. But I did do the attitude part. IT WORKS! I am able to pass! I think it was my long hair and HRT feminized face.

My wife was fine. The Dr. knows us both and he is a great person. I wanted to ask him if he had ever had a transgender patient, but I kept my mouth shut because my wife was so upset anyway because of the exam. He looked at me very closely! I am sure I stirred it up at the Dr's office yesterday - probably STILL talking about it!. My first try at passing and it worked - the receptionist was looking right at me! It was the voice - I had it! I passed!

Afterward, we went to Sephora at the Mall, walked in - 'hello ladies!' The started our showing me cosmetics, realized somewhere along the line I wasn't probably what they thought I was, switched over to showing me skin care products. It was fun! :P

BUT it wasn't that way all day. I am having trouble passing male, I am not always able to pass as female. I never really know what to expect anymore. Went to a restaurant. I watched one table - two twenty-something couples - they finally caught on I wasn't a natal woman. They were very rude and stared at me a bit - I hadn't had that before - the overt rudeness and laughing - probably their age had something to do with it - college kids, guys showing they are macho. :( Anyway, I was NOT presenting female.

Much later a trio of teen girls finally noticed me - heard my voice probably, and did a double take or two, but were polite. The waitress didn't bat an eye - she knew I was the one with the credit card. I think being androgynous is harder than presenting female, because everyone reads you. If I had had on my make-up and earrings, I would have done better. ;)

Interesting day!

Lizzy.....

These are the sort of things that our lives all move towards...

It's all we wanted in the first place ...just to be treated as our real gender and we all work so hard for that.

There will be those times in our futures when we get the stares and remarks....but as we continue, those become less and less...

Liz....your day was most amazing....you're heading where you need to be....

Don't wait for us....we'll get there, too.....Keep your head up, Hon.....

You did GREAT!

Cha Ching! One "ATTA GIRL" out of petty cash for Elizabeth!

Hey Lizzy,

I told you that you passed!! I think it is awesome that you are at the stage where you are having difficulty passing as "male" even if you thought you had to.. kudos!! There is no doubt that you are so well on your way!! The spontaneous acceptance of you being female at the doctors office and the mall must have been just so rewarding and what an affirmation that you are really there!! You are now who you really are! Imagine, you passed as female when you did not even try!!!

I am so, just so, bursting with joy for you!!

Love you

bernii

P.S. Don't worry about the rude treatment by the 20 somethings. At that age, they think they know everything, but know nothing.

And a huge congratulations to you too, Angie!

I hope that things will go that well for me when I get started - my appointment for the blood work is Monday!

It's too late to ask you to wait for me and since you are a mountain biker, I'll never catch up but at least I know I'll be on the same path.

Love ya,

Sally

Congrats!

I know where your coming from. Last week my wife & I went out for sushi, we hadn't been to this place before & needed help ordering. The 20 something waitress sad next to me & went over the menu. I talked to her several times that nite. As we left she said good nite ladies!

I'm not wearing makeup, I'm in jeans & a plain old shirt. It's funny when you PASS when your not even trying!

Some people will never mature. I've seen older people acting just like that to anyone. I want to smack them all.

But despite that, Lizzy, it seems you acted like a classy lady no matter where you went. ;) They should be ashamed for their rudeness.

Congrats on having an interesting day. :)

It should be the league's business whether it allows trans women to play, not the park's.   (They seem to be inclusive - good on them)

Sticking my neck out here, but that's what I see the RWNJ's doing all the time! They always need someone or something to "fight". Everything is a contest to them; there's always a battle to be had, an opponent to defeat, a dragon to slay, then another, and another.    *Sigh* if only they'd put their energy into working with people instead of against them.

I think i became much more emotional overall.  Perhaps because use a topical E i haven't had the swings that some folks feel but i can laugh  and cry so much easier, sometimes over situations i would never have seen before.  Perhaps my age has something to do with it, but i am also much more peaceful and accepting of the storm life keeps presenting.   Hugs,   Charlize

I think the interpretation of the question is always going to provide a wide array of answers. Do I have a rich inner life? Yes! Why? Good question!   Circumstances often dictate how we feel within ourselves. I don't have to deal with work anymore and we've been jus' cruzin ever since. I don't have to fix anything, literal or otherwise. My wife and I live a relatively simple life and we are true partners, but deep inside, I'm not answerable to anyone except myself. So, how's that going? Well, since I came out to myself, which happened before I stopped working, I have felt an inner glow that was never apparent before. It is permanent now and it sustains me. How? Effed if I know! All I know is that even if I have down days, and there certainly have been a few, my heart, mind and soul are still smiling. I think it comes from a realization that I am finally happy just to be me.

I had to look this acronym up.  That certainly has never been part of the LGBTQ community!  Politicians simply attempt to use peoples disgust to create the hate or fear they can "fight" against to win support and power.   Hugs,   Charlize

Congrats, @April Marie on your new fur kid. As the mom to a 1 yr old fur kid. I know what you are going through. LOL.   Back to work after a good weekend. I hope that work doesn't drag my good weekend down. However, I believe it is wishful thinking. I will do the best that I can, if that is not enough. They can jump in a fing lake.   I have another week until my therapist appointment. So I hope I can make it. it seems my depression is getting worse. Can it, is there something lower that major?  Especially when dealing with work. So, I know I have to get out of there. I have put in for the parts at the local GM. Probably, be like Ford. OH, well nothing ventured nothing gained.      Hope everyone has a good day. Hugs, Kymmie

If what you mean by defemination  is that folks are doubting or refusing to believe your feminity i'm sure others here have felt that.  I know i have in the past.  It seems to be part of the continuous attempt by some to see us all quietly hiding in the closet.   I don't fit in there anymore.   Hugs,   Charlize
    • Mirrabooka
      Yay!!! 😀 What's her name?
    • Mirrabooka
Yep, I can see that too, especially if satire goes wrong.  I can totally understand why the uneducated hoi polloi think that gender identity and sexual preference (and now, pedophilia) are one and the same, and it weaponizes their bigotry. I touched on this in another thread recently when I asked the question whether the LGBTQIA+ umbrella was actually too inclusive and should be split, in an attempt to stop this sort of nonsense. I don't know the answer; while I think it is important for non-cis and non-het folk to band together, it leaves us wide open to attack.

Good morning, everyone!   Sorry I've been absent so much. I truly miss the interaction with you all.    We have a new yellow Lab female puppy in the house as of Saturday so it's a challenge to find time to be here as we get her settled into a schedule, work on housebreaking and training, etc.    So, I'll check in as I can...when I can get a few minutes as she sleeps.   She slept 6 hours last night so we're making progress and we've been attentive to her schedule so no accidents in the house as of now.   She's consistently following the Sit command already - the wonder of puppy treats.    Be safe!!
    • April Marie
New puppy. New schedule for now.

Yeah, it is a real treat trying to combat the effects of an unwanted male puberty, or unwanted female puberty. Who will supply these kids with funding when they try to transition as adults? Insurance companies do everything they can to weasel out of paying for facial surgery, voice/speech therapy/voice surgery, and electrolysis. Not to mention the pain we all go through with these procedures that we may not have to endure as much with proper care at an early age. I cringe at what the next trans generations are going to face. The governor and his ilk, are typical of these super-majority R led states. Unless there is a huge change in the next 6 months, I am fearful of where things are heading. I feel like more bad stuff will unfold. I do not think they are done crucifying us.
