Written by Julia T Wood, I found this college text book (7th edition, revised 2007) at a used book store, a great find for $5.

My impressions - I am fascinated by how we communicate, and how gender finds it's way into our culture, and language. The processes on how we come to discover our gendered selves through communication are covered in depth in this book. Exploring these topics will ultimately make me a better communicator, and a better woman.Trans issues are explored in this book, but that is not the main reason I enjoy this. It's like light bulb after light bulb keep switching on and I expect that to continue. I am evolving, changing everyday, and life is for learning.

I did not go through all the effort to transition, so I could jump in another "box". I transitioned to liberate myself, and to better myself, part of that process is to continue to educate myself.

I think when i started to transition it was definitely into "another box". I was desperate to express the woman i inside but really didn't know who that was. Little by little, layer by layer i'm finding peace with myself. Today i'm content. That being said i have a great deal to learn. Thanks for the review of a good exploration of gender in our culture. I'll check to see if there are copies available on line.
