Madness in NC

I am in a closed Fb group for Parents. A mom in NC related this story today: Two cis-women in her area were pulled out of a bathroom and beaten badly for looking trans. She is very scared for her child (who doesn't pass yet) and they must hide her identity from her school. Please my friends, Stay Safe!!

I already read another story like that a couple of days or weeks ago and I think it's very very sad. I really hope a day will come when transgender childrens do not live in such fear.

I think it's extra sad for me (and maybe a lot of you here) because I've gone trough such fear when I was young and it's absolutely horrible. I especially think about those who do not have 100% support from their parents.

The latest wave of transphobia hit the trans* community hard.

So yes, stay safe

This sounds really bad. Can anyone provide sources so we can verify? I am sure this would have made the news somewhere.

Now if the stories go on, and settlements in 7 or 8 figures result. I don't know if NC has a state lottery but the lawsuit payouts may beat the jackpots it pays there. I need to check with my Las Vegas Bookies on what odds they will make for me. Unfortunately the actual vigilantes will not have the money to pay judgments against them for battery, assault and the like. At the rate it is going the state may not either.

I'm sure litigation will eventually nullify all of these crazy laws but until it does unfortunate stories will continue. Perhaps the worse part is that the lies about our nature will somehow be part of the consciousness of certain folks. The fact is that even these ridiculous laws are aimed at straight cis gendered men. They are the ones folks are afraid of. They might put on a dress etc. Making us the focus of the argument is like saying that it is the woman's fault she was raped because of how she dressed. It is the straight, cis gendered man who is the problem here. It isn't about people attempting to simply live life as themselves. Heck i could work in the sultans harem. Now that's a picture i'll have to think about.

Hugs,

Charlize

yep sad to say Charlize is right, old white cis - dudes, longing for the "good old days". It's sad they feel so threatened by social change, so threatened by someone's gender expression freedoms. These laws are an attempt to deflect attention from the real problem.

Let's face it most sexual predators are men. Young boys are more at risk in the men's room from creepy cis-guys, for example just recently a voyeur was caught in the Seatac airport bathroom here trying to take pictures of a boy, of all things he was from North Carolina,

http://www.seattlepi.com/local/crime/article/Police-Dad-busts-peeper-at-Sea-Tac-Airport-7383973.php

Or another example Dennis Hastert, the ex-speaker of the US house of representatives, a conservative republican.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Hastert

When I was about 11 my friend and I had paper routes, the paper route manager was a creep and was into boys, we had to testify to police about what he was up to, and what he tried to get away with, it makes me sick....

My .02 - As a parent of two daughters, I want them to be safe in our bathrooms, everyone can get behind safety. Trans-women are women, the reality is most have been chemically castrated or even had bottom surgery, and have no T to influence them, they are least likely to create problems. I feel our daughters are far safer sharing the ladies room with trans-women, then are boys sharing the restroom with creepy cis-guys.

I think it's a sad thing that it's going to take incidents like this to wake people up to the dangers of the horrible agenda of these right wing extremists. There reckless actions place everyone in danger, trans and cis alike. They're stirring the pot of bigotry, prejudice and hatred. It's irresponsible and sad.

Lots of love,

I'm hoping that people who sue municipalities, and businesses over these idiotic laws will also consider including in their suit the right wing extremist groups such as the hate group 'The American Family Association' out of Mississippi who are behind a lot of these bigoted hate bills!

These hate groups need to be dragged thru the mud instead of enjoying the anonymity they are currently enjoying!

Last night on the Houston news they showed protest groups supporting boycotting outside a Target in the Heights. These idiots were being led by one of the infamous preachers who was part of the 5 pastors who ran exploitive ads to defeat the HERO ordinance. The piece of garbage had a megaphone to drown out the small group supporting Target.

I am so amazed at the ignorance displayed by these sheep! They follow these hate preachers like they are the Pied Piper's of truth!

I just wonder how much federal funding NC could loose. The federal government fully supports OSHA's recommended bathroom use for transgender men and woman (A Guide to Restroom Access for Transgender Workers). I myself am glad that I do work for a branch of the federal government, it has made my coming out at work very easy.

This is a link for info on the defeated HERO ordinance in Houston, and the infamous Preachers 5 who were instrumental in getting HERO to fail.

The most despicable ad they ran was one showing a "Man" (not in a dress, and not a transgender) in a woman's restroom putting his hand over a child's mouth and dragging her into a restroom stall. No one caught on that this was not a representation of what these preachers were selling.

I was dumbfounded that the public bought it hook, line, and sinker!

My condolences to the people of WA.  A huge warning about that type of politician though, those who broadcast the Anti-Trans message rarely if ever attend to any important legislative issues to benefit their constituency.  They are mostly single trick dogs, whose trick is to empty their food bowl and whine for more food.

This stuff seems to be the major talking point for "conservatives" these days.  Just shows that they don't know what they're talking about, and don't particularly care.

Mother's Day, so I thought I'd do the right thing and cook. So, we got Chinese takeaway! 😆   Actually, we planned it days ago, just thinking that tonight we would treat ourselves. Complete with a lovely bottle of Cab Sav.
    • Mirrabooka
Exactly.   A plain old "Good morning" should always suffice, for example, whether the recipient expects a gender specific greeting or not.

Hi awkward yet sweet, yeah, I tried dumping her but my current health insurance keeps directing me back to her as my primary, yet there are other doctors to choose from, but they are far away.

Hi Birdie, I can relate to that.

This sort of stuff makes my blood boil. A prospective state politician has gained approval from his party's state council to run in their state election next year.   He once stated that the + part of LGBTQIA+ is where pedophiles are categorized.   For clarity, in Australia the Liberal party is our main conservative party. They have lurched further to the right over the past 10 years or so. Our main progressive, union backed party is Labor.   WA Liberal party approves Dr Thomas Brough, candidate who linked LGBTQIA+ community with paedophiles - ABC News

Happy Mother’s Day    I have to be at church earlier than normal for a mic check.  I have been going over what I am to say, both silently reading and reading it aloud.  My concern is that my voice will freeze as it sometimes does.     I felt I was honored very highly yesterday by my minister and supporter on my journey.  He and another minister are Standing together to become the next co-moderators of the Presbyterian Church (USA).  They included me to receive an advance copy of their initial submission.  I was one of only 6 people listed on the email to receive this.  Later this week it will go out to all the voting commissioners that will be in Salt Lake City for the meeting.  I have asked to be allowed to attend the meeting to support him and Rev CeeCee Armstrong, whom he is standing with.    We’ll time to get ready .   Willow

Nup. Not an option. You need to keep going and keep us all in the loop, and we need to keep seeing your beautiful smile!   Party, schmarty. I'm 61 and haven't had a birthday party since I was 30. Even that was just a crummy meal at the pub with a few friends who we have since lost contact with. Don't sweat it.

On behalf of everyone reading your entries here @Sally Stone, THANK YOU for creating such an informative thread. But there is one thing you might have neglected to say at the end, and that is, "And they all lived happily ever after!" ❤️   Reno sounds like a pretty good place to call home. I understand the attraction of living in a place that is not too big but not too small.   I look forward to reading your subsequent posts about specific aspects of your journey.

Hi and welcome. A few things...   1. You're right, you can't trust your friends w/r/t the question of passing. How would they even know if you pass or not? My sister used to do the same thing, telling me that no-one knew I was trans and that to her I just looked like a cis woman. I still don't know if she was serious or just trying to make me feel good, but I learned to not listen to her on that topic.   2. Buuuut, having said that, I thought I looked good, and I think that is all she was really trying to tell me, that she liked how I looked as a woman. Maybe this is obvious, but I feel it gets overlooked: passing and looking good are not the same thing, not even remotely. Your friends (I presume) are trying to tell you that you look good as you are.   3. Having said all that, I think non-passing transmascs have a harder time than us non-passing transfemmes. All I have to do to get gendered correctly 95% of the time is wear a dress and makeup and only a few seriously ignorant folks and diehard transphobes misgender me. For you, it's much harder to find signifiers powerful enough to send the same message.   So in short, I don't have any answers, except that you're right, it sucks, and I hope the situation improves over time. But passing isn't everything. Maybe you're right, and in a less conservative state it wouldn't happen so often, because you'd have more people like you surrounding you. I know that where I chose to live while transitioning has been a big part of making the process a positive experience. I'd hate to be in Texas atm.

Thank you, ladies.   At the time I went from euphoric (my normal state) to not euphoric in an instant, and the lingering thought was one of self-doubt, manifesting itself with the unsolved question that maybe I never really felt like I had the soul of a woman, I just thought I did. I know I'm not the only one to ever feel this way. All part of the ride on this roller coaster I guess.   Yep, and yep. Makes sense now.
