Dr. Christine McGinn - Papillion Center

Hi all - I have been away from the forum for some time but wanted to come back and now share to help others.

I am 12 weeks post op (breast implants and vagiaplasty) with Dr. Christine McGinn in New Hope, PA. I am doing great, expecting run a 10K on July 4 and haven't had any problems. I am thrilled with my results and everything about the whole process from first visit to post op. She and her staff at the Papillion Center are caring, kind, helpful, and easy to work with. The surgery was performed at the Lower Bucks County Hospital and the staff there was also top notch.

Dr. McGinn also owns a Bed and Breakfast called the GAIA House in New Hope where you can recuperate for a week after getting discharged from the hospital. That place is wonderful and the staff makes great breakfasts that they will bring to your room.

The first few weeks after surgery I had a fair amount of edema around the pubic bone but as that swelling went away I very pleased with the appearance and function of my new body parts. For those who may be considering breast implants at the time of the bottom surgery I say go for it. You avoid a second anesthesiology and the first couple of days you are laying flat on pain killers so I didn't even notice any additional pain from the implants.

I will be happy to address any questions or concerns based on my experience. I believe that she has done around 600 of these surgeries so she really knows what she is doing.

I'm glad your surgery went so well. I love Dr. McGinn and her staff. They are definitely kind and caring folks who have a good bit of experience to say the least. I'm fortunate to live nearby as she does my HRT as well as having done my surgery.

Thanks for sharing. Hopefully you'll keep in touch.

Hugs,

Charlize

Hi,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience. Does her team also do FFS, since they do breast implants?

It is nice to know that she has a place to recover from the surgeries. Since I wouldn't have anyone to accompany me I would feel more comfortable staying at a place that is understanding, and knows what you've just been through.

Welcome to "The other side" Diane it's really a breeze for you young kids compared to us old fogeys, but 12 weeks out is about the time you really get your strength and stamina back. Dr. McGinn was on my short list, but at the time I was ready for my surgery a couple of her standards were out of my range of possibility to be ready for. It is really great to hear from you, I remember some of the struggle it took you to get to where you are.

She was also the flight surgeon for a couple of NASA space shuttle missions and a cobra helipcopter pilot. ;-)

I believe that she does do FFS as well but not sure.

As far as having someone with you, you are required to have a surgery buddy. If you don't have one I have met a local lady who is one of her patients and she volunteers to be a surgery buddy for those who don't have one.

After discharge you still are confined to the bed except for bathroom visits so you need someone to help take care of you and bring you food! The B&B only does breakfast.

Hi, nice to see you home. Please be here more and congrats on the new you! Hug. JodyAnn

I feel really guilty about being away.

When I was lost and scared and didn;t have a path the wonderful people at LP helped me tremendously. Then I got rolling living full time then surgery and I didn't need LP to help me through the day. Now I need to pay it forward and be a resource to help others who are where I was 3 years ago. I am mentoring several local trans women and I always recommend LP as a resource.

Thank you Jody Ann

You're welcome. My post op one year anniversary is in August. Life is still a struggle but so much better. I wish I could afford to do another Bangkok vacation. Giggle

Thank you Diane.....I find that heartwarming "pay it forward" In other words Thank you for turning around and reaching for an outstretched hand.

Also thanks to you and Charlize for the information on Dr. McGinn and the Papillon Center. I did go out to the website to check it out, and was very impressed. I wish she took Medicare ;-)

Flight Surgeon....I venture to say we could talk about some things since I served as an aerial gunner in the Nam. Flight Surgeons saved our bacon too many times to count. That debt can never be repaid.

Isn't it illegal to be examining people's genitals without their consent?    Could've sworn that was some sort of law already.

Oddly i often feel i pass but then bump into someone who reads my past attempts at maleness.    Last week at the market a man spoke me as i went back to my car.  I heard "You are beautiful"!  Odd!!!!!  Then he said something about marriage and i started to get worried.  Turned out he is married to a trans woman.  He was sweet and probably is tuned to trans folks but it was a bit disquieting.     Hugs,   Charlize

I decided to power wash our back porch and the porch furniture so the uniform of the day is a skort, t-shirt over a sports bra and flip flops with my hair pulled back into a ponytail.

It's been touched on in another thread, the perception that the folks who scream loudest in favor of free speech are also the loudest in wanting to stifle the freedom of people not like themselves.

I wonder if the LGBTQI+ umbrella should be split? Create separate entities for LGB and TQI+ folk?    I have no doubt that some cis het people probably think that sexuality and gender identity are the same thing, for whatever the reason, not necessarily willful ignorance. It would be natural for such people to observe that both LGB and T folk are under the same umbrella, so they must be the same, right?   Just as (and I know I'm making some pretty big assumptions in this post) some cis gay folk would think that the LBGTQI+ umbrella is pie - give trans people a slice, and somehow, they will miss out. Just like cis het folk might also think that their lives are somehow being diminished by allowing trans people to have basic human rights.

Suppressing your emotions because you’re afraid of them can be bad for your physical and mental health. Here’s what to do instead. When a toddler feels a “big” emotion, like anger or sadness, they tend to have a big tantrum on the floor. And these tantrums can be a lot to observe, full of thrashing, screaming, and tears. But a child reacts like this because the emotion they’re feeling is uncomfortable, maybe even painful.   Of course, as adults, we feel emotions too, and those feelings can be just as overwhelming, uncomfortable, or even painful as they were when we were children, even if we don’t let ourselves react in such a big way. But, sometimes, in our attempts to not give in to our emotions, we go too far: we run from them or suppress them — even if that harms us in the long run. Although there are many reasons we might suppress our emotions, one of them is that we are afraid of our emotions. Fear of emotions is called “animotophobia. It is not an official term in the DSM-5-TR. Still, fearing your emotions can have a significant impact on your well-being.
