Favorite Music

Hi Everyone,

 

I was kinda wondering what everyone's favorite music is, be it your favorite song, artist, type, or the different types of music you like.

 

Myself, I like different types of music. I like some heavy metal, my favotite groups being Def Lepard, Cinderella, Ratt... Classic Rock, including Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Boston, Journey, Genesis, ect...'80s pop rock such as Phil Collins, The Police, Heart, Fleetwood Mac etc... Then at the other end of the spectrum, I like New Age, my favorite groups in the world (not just new age) are Nightnoise and 2002. Then there's classic country, artists like Alabama, Earl Thomas Conley, Ronnie Milsap, Reba McEntire. Etc.... And then there are The Eagles!

I'm like you, Wolfe, I have pretty varied musical tastes.  Country, bluegrass, folk rock, classic rock, some hard rock, soundtracks, and classical.  Within classical, my real loves are Baroque, guitar and mandolin.  I even like some jazz.  Just about the only thing I have no interest in is opera music. 

My son has introduced me to EDM, and I do like a lot of it.  I'm not one to say no to anything without giving it a shot.

I lean heavily toward pop music, though like anyone else there are random things from other genres that make my brain happy as well.  Most of my musical taste is influenced by 80s pop - including the synth stuff - so anything current with roots in that will probably get my attention.  Current favorite artists are Adele and P!nk, and Elle King has caught my ear just recently.

On the flip side, anything that can be described as rap, twangy country, Christmas music, or Justin Bieber generally tends to make me angry to varying degrees within just a couple of notes.

My favorites go all over the instrumental side. My favorite group right now is Divinus - if you've at least heard of it, the you're amazing.  I also like Two Steps From Hell and Audiomachine. And soundtracks! Anime, movie/tv shows, and a few video games. On the other side of the spectrum I like Rachmaninoff, Mozart, and lots of classical. I like a few rock songs, but most rock, pop, and most of the stuff on the radio gives me a headache.

OK I'll bite!

God Rock: Skillet,  Lauren Dagle top my list, my radio is always tuned to Air1 simulcast all across the nation and streaming on the web.

I'm also eclectic in my music tastes. Best all time concerts I attended had to be J Giels at Speedway Jam at Toledo Speedway. Freddy Mercury and Billy Squire at the AZ State Fairgrounds and most recent Tempe CityFest with Toby Mac and Skillet as the headliners

I like the Phoenix Symphony too. All the old-school rockers now play all the local casinos, though I haven't been to any. I catch Christian Alternative God Rock shows whenever I can.

Once every blue moon I  like easy listening,  I guess to give my tinnitus a break. I do remember seeing Ken Curtis (Festus from Gunsmoke) at Allegan at the fairgrounds, he was a surprisingly great singer before he passed.

As a child I was absolutely hooked on CKLW AM with a steady diet of Motown.  Dee-troit ain't what she used to be. CK at last I heard was talk radio in Ontario.

My 450watt mega stereo in my truck is installed, finished and tweaked. Oh, and that little star crack in my windshield has suddenly grown fourteen inches from the glass shaking. I also learned how to turn it down to a sane level.

Oh beans!  I'm not amazing.  Maybe tomorrow.  LOL  Sorry Ashton, I've not heard of them so I guess I need to challenge myself to expand my listening horizons. 

Timber Wolf - based on what you wrote I think we may have very similar tastes in music.  :-)  I generally like most things; most music.  However, I don't like music that denigrates women and/or with lots of swearing.

Wow Jody - you're all over the music highway.  LOL  I had a coworker that was into christian rock.  Didn't understand why though.  He was so far from christian that there's not enough real estate on this earth to to show how far.  And he sure didn't like dealing with me.  <evil grin>

I listen to and enjoy a wide spectrum, classical, big band swing, modern jazz, jazz fusion, pop, R&B, country, rock, alt rock, classic rock. Can't do opera or rap when every other word is a swear word.

I do like Bach, Mozart, Wagner, Merle Haggard, Eagles, Johnny Cash, Allison Krauss, Grateful Dead, Janis Jopplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull, Led Zepplin, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, Heart, Susan Vega, Sarah McLachlan, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Frank Zappa, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden,Talking Heads for example.

Music is my soul savior, and then there is performing music, nothing better than being the girl bassist in the band up on the stage, it's awesome. I love to study and play certain classic rock and jazz, I love the freedom of performing improvisational music, it's art, it's feelings and language in sound...

I also go for a very wide spectrum which ranges over many time periods.

It really depends on what I am thinking about as I like to get engrossed in things.

That said, moving forward through time I have 78's dating before WW1 all the way until 45's took over then Lp's and finally up to present. I like early dance music, jazz and blues. 1920 and later. Being in the mood when thinking of WWII with music from the era. I spent some time playing submarine simulator games set in WWII and downloaded many tracks on MP3 to play while playing the game (setting the mood).

When I first started getting into things I liked rock and roll then the Rolling Stones and other sixties. On to Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd and Yes (among many others). Then the punk era with the Sex Pistols, Ramones and others.

I also like house and techno music as well.

Perhaps most things by rythm and beat rather than melody and vocals although I love the wierd and eccentric!

OK I'll bite.  I'm like a lot of you in that I'll listen to almost anything once, and many genre's over and over. There are several internet stations that I listen to. 

I love classical, the pop music of its time.  I love rock (50's, 60's, metal, grunge, etc), blues (yes!), jazz (really!), folk, and anything instrumental.  My current favorite is instrumental's played on nylon stringed acoustic guitar.

I am a Deadhead foremost, and going to see Dead & Company when they come to Phoenix in May. ActuallyI follow the whole jam band genre. I do like almost any music as long as it isn't tasteless. Just recently a co-worker introduced me to Portishead, and they have become one of my favorite bands.
