Help From Guys About Building Muscle

I am a bit notorious for having skimpy arms. Ha! Even flexed, barely 10 inches diameter. I am skinny naturally, and do not build muscle easily because I cannot afford a gym, neighborhood is unsafe to run in and small house. I understand that slim can be passable, but more muscle in arms on top will balance out wide hips that I possess. I am also a bit frail in health (to my dismay) so incredibly difficult cardio puts a strain on my lungs.

I am willing to do hard work, but I cannot afford a trainer and certainly not steroids at the moment or anything like that. I was wondering, what kind of ways are there to build upper body strength and muscle? I have... well, never exercised before (anything more than 10 hour sessions of video games) so even something simple will help out a ton.

Thanks,

--Michael

Push ups and pull ups can help. You could also drink protein shakes, or take creatin (its a supplement that helps retain water and somehow it helps you gain muscle) i dont know thats what a lot of football players take/do. :)

Dude, the push/pull ups are good. Throw in some priest curls (sitting or standing - curl a dead weight toward your chest, elbow bent, wrist straight, palm closed and pulled toward you) are good for bi and triceps. Its important to tense the muscle groups, keep your core straight & tight, breath through it, and pull slowly - for max progression.

Pull to same side chest, and/or mix to crossover chest, if ya want. Start with a light weight, with many reps (10-20), then amp up the weight gradually as the existing resistance becomes less challenging. Don't overdue it, or you'll burn yourself out, and be prepared for VERY sore arms in the beginning. Best o'luck to ya! =]

if your skint, then press ups and tricep dips are good

press ups on any floor pass you have and cost nothing, just lift your body wait

and tricep drips, have your hands behind you on your bed holding you up and move your body up and down

sorted!

Push ups will do the job nicely, and you don't need a trainer or gym to do them. Good stuff!

My cousin used to do barbell curls using milk jugs full of water. Don't fall into the functional fixedness trap. Anything heavy can be a weight!

Hi,

when I was in the army, we had to walk around the hole day with a full automatic rifle. The weight was about 4-5 kg depending on the amount of bullets. After some month doing it, the upper arms get bigger. You can buy a pair of weight gloves and wear them the hole day instead of wearing a rifle ;)

Greetings

Weight training with light weights is the best for developing bulging muscle.

Light means with 20/40 lbs.It is repetition that builds bulk.Start slow and build up

to a harder workout over a six week program.Don't push yourself too hard at the

begining. That way you don't get burned out by lifting too heavy a weight.Keep your

workouts to three days a week.Muscle memory sets in after continual usage.

You will see yourself bulk up during the workout, then it all goes away until after six

weeks, when the pumping up starts to stay with you.Increase weight slowly, going up

5/10 lbs about every two to three weeks.Remember, heavy weights adds strength,

light weights add size.Buy a bench press. One of the best investments a man can make.

Before you know it,in six months, you will have that manly man's body you so desire.

A long time former bodybuilder,

Angie

I know it sounds girly and wimpy, but it works.

Do yoga.

I was forced to pick two PE classes that didn't suck (out of a list of ones that did), so I chose waterpolo/weight training and yoga. The waterpolo/ weight training was okay, but I didn't actually build any muscle (and I was really bored). I didn't see any definition in my arms at all until I started yoga. It sounds girly and wimpy, but it's a really good way to build muscle, and you get/ stay extremely flexible. I'd recommend just starting out with sun salutations and downward dog: http://www.yogasite.com/sunsalute.htm - take modifications when you need to and remember to breathe (AND REMEMBER THAT IT'S HARDER THAN IT LOOKS).

Gah, I feel really stupid posting yoga stuff, but trust me, IT WORKS.

A very good way to build upper body micsles if to pick a waight of waights thats makes you strugle by about the 12th repertion, then you should be able to make 10 repertions.

then 8,6,4,2 etc

if you want to make it harder add more waight as you prgress.

( this is if you want to build muscle mass)

If u want to tone, pick a low waight anf doas many repertions as u can in a shortish period of time.

did work like a charm for me for a wile

Don't forget to replenish your protein. Your diet is very, very import. You should have about 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight. As a personal trainer I have a lot of clients who want to get big. I tell them protein replenishment is KEY. I used to be big into weight lifting (I still am but not to the obsessive amount I used to be). I am very skinny and I have a very fast metabolism but I was able to pack on about 8 pounds of solid muscle. Here are some major keys to building muscle:

-Whey protein: As I stated above. Optimum nutrition is the best brand. It's cheap and it actually tastes good and easy on your stomach if you are a lactard like me.

-Eat, eat, eat: 5 small meals a day. It has to be healthy or you'll just get fat. I substitute a protein shake for a meal. Never be hungry!!

-Your weight lifting routine should be at least 3 days a week. 6-10 reps 3 sets. You should be failing by rep 10. Make sure you give your body time to rest.

-Pushups and curls are good, but make sure you vary it or some how add resistance or you'll just get endurance and not actually build bigger muscles.

-Legs are important as you can gain a couple of pounds by hitting the squat rack.

-I shouldn't be endorsing supps, but my secret to gaining muscle is creatine. I buy the vitamin shoppe brand creatine monohydrate 100% because it doesn't irritate my stomach. I load for 5 days taking about 20 grams spread throughout the day. Then only about 1 tablespoon a day. I sometimes take it when I go running because it gives me a boost. Don't over do it or you'll overload the kidneys. Don't forget a multi-vitamin.

The Best exercises for building muscles:

Squat

Deadlift

Chest Press

Dips

Rows (compound, bent over, one armed)

I'm a fitness junkie and a trainer. Feel free to PM me. I'll be glad to tallk fitness all day every day. :)

Yoga is not only good for building muscle, but it also helps with balance, coordination and can help improve your mood. It has many health benefits. It's not just for girls... many yoga masters are men. It is a really good way for your body and mind to stay healthy.

Also, Its going to hurt. Be prepared with muscle rub and lots of protein.

further, to grow muscle its something like 200 - 300 Calories more than you need to maintain weight.

Also, don't forget to limber up first! Its really important if you don't want to over-exert or strain any muscles or tendons. Be sure to stretch adequately before any work out.

happy trans birthday! I can't speak personally on the subject, but I hope hormones bring you the changes you're looking for <3
    • MaeBe
That’s super healthy, to see that something that becomes common has less effect on you and that you are able to decipher these feelings.   Sadly, this trend tends to only deaden good feelings as we tend not to let bad feelings attenuate the same way.   I have noticed less euphoria, but still feel the dysphorias that I have. Sometimes the good sneaks in and reminds me, but often time it’s just me seeing myself in the mirror and being comfortable about what I see when embracing my realized self. I may not get the same buzz I once did, but I don’t feel incongruous when looking at a more “drab” reflection.    Wishing you strength, you are amazing!

Congratulations! and Happy Trans Birthday @LittleSam! That is such a BIG milestone.  I can still remember walking out of my clinic with my first HRT presciption.  I was on Cloud-9.  Wishing you all the best in the start of your new Journey!

maebe thank you I try to be. I thank God for blessings, try to share them, beg forgiveness for my shortcomings n vow to try to do better...2 priests have said no, God doesn't condemn you just for being trans...but apparently evangelicals do   I shall vtry dear thank you
    • MaeBe
Meet him at the being good to others part of Christianity. At the heart of it, there are excellent tenets of the faith. Those that condemn are judging, Jesus would have us be selfless; stone casting and all that. Are you a good person? Are you putting good into the world? If your gender is an issue for God, let God judge. In the mortal realm, let your actions be heard.
    • missyjo
and just fi sweeten it..I'm catholic n he hasn't been for years..he's evangelical..whatever that is

Let’s stick to cite-able fact. Most of my posts have been directly in relation to LGBTQ+ rights as it pertains to P2025 and I have drawn direct links between people, their quotes, and their agenda. I have made reference to the cronyism that P2025 would entail as well, by gutting, not cutting, broad swathes of government and replacing it with “conservative warriors” (I can get you the direct quote, but rest assured it’s a quote). All this does is constantly force the cogs to be refitted, not their movement. To say that agencies have directly defied a President is a bit much, the EPA did what Trump told them to do at the direct harm to the environment, the department of agriculture did the same by enacting the administrations forced move to KC which decimated the USDA.      How about Betsy DeVoss for Education? Or Bannon for anything? What about the revolving Chief of Staff position that Trump couldn’t stay filled? Or the Postmaster General, who did much to make the USPS worse?   Let’s not mix politics with racism, sexism, or any other ism. Because Trump made mainly white, male, appointments—many of them not, arguably, people fit for service—or unwilling to commit to term. I can argue this because, again, he’s up for election and will do what he did before (and more of the same, his words).   Please delineate how the selected diversity appointments have negatively affected the US, other than being black, women, or queer? Representation matters and America benefits when its people are inspired and empowered.

When I first started figuring things out, I got a lot more euphoria. Every time a friend would use he/they pronouns for me, I'd get this bubbly feeling, and seeing myself look masculine made me really happy. Dysphoric state felt more normal, so I guess I noticed the pain it caused me less.   Now, it's more just that my pronouns and such things feel natural, and dysphoria is a lot stronger -- I know what's natural, so experiencing the opposite is more jarring than everything. The problem is, most of my natural experiences are from friends, and I rarely get properly gendered by strangers, much less by my family. I've found myself unable to bind in months due to aches, colds,, and not wanting to risk damage.    It partially makes me want to go back to the beginning of my journey, because at least then I got full euphoria. I'm pretty sure it'll be like this until I medically transition, or at the very least get top surgery (you know all those trans dudes online with tiny chests? Not me, unfortunately). It's a bit depressing, but at least I know that, eventually, there's a way out of this.
    • RaineOnYourParade
Major mood, right here ^^^    I've listened to Lumineers to a long time (a major portion of it by osmosis via my mom), so that is almost painfully relatable
    • RaineOnYourParade
As for getting a button-up/formal pants suit, you can try to talk to her more -- Cis women in tuxes have worn tuxes in recent years, after all, (for example, Zendaya) so it can still be a relatively safe topic. For jumpsuits, I'd recommend going with a simple one with a blazer, if you can -- this'll make it look overall more masculine. There's a lot of good brands, but going for one without a lot of extra glitz on it will make it look less feminine under a blazer. I don't know many specific brands though since I usually just get my stuff from chain stores, sorry :<   When it comes to your hair, if you can't cut it, you can look up tutorials on fluffing it up instead. If you can pull it off, it can look a lot shorter and more androgynous instead!
    • RaineOnYourParade
As far as I'm aware, he wasn't -- he just sometimes wore skirts, which was why it was a question in the first place.   In my opinion, part of that is because of the way press spares attention on issues like that. As a bit of a true crime nut and what I see: Child predator cases' (and cases of a sexual nature in general) press focus on those with an AMAB perpetrator generally, and very rarely are AFAB perpetrators given much press time or even getting tried due to a whole bunch of issues I'm not gonna get into. Because of this, when you see these types of cases and a boy is the victim, it's almost always a queer person who is the one who committed a crime that gets press. Therefore, with the amount of cases seen with this type of perpetrator (and due to the fact "99% of queer people are not sexual criminals" doesn't attract eyes), the human brain can kind of naturally makes an association with it. It's not right, but it's also a fault I think falls partially on the media.   That's all my opinion, though!   This is extra confusing to me, as a feminine man is usually viewed as gay. If someone is refusing the acknowledge the existence of trans people, then gay would be the societal connection that comes after, I think. So, that sorta implies that trans women wouldn't be interested in women in the first place by those assumptions? Of course, trans lesbians exist (most trans women I know like women, actually), but it's a little ridiculous to me that people will deny trans people's existence, call all feminine AMAB people gay, and say that trans people are looking to peep all in the same breath.   Wow, this was a lot longer of a response than I was planning to write--

For one thing, the practice of putting into office wholly unqualified people simply because of racial, sexual or national characteristics.  It is no accident that Karine is a Haitian immigrant, Black and lesbian.  Kamala Harris is a Black female. Pete Buttigieg is gay.  Often you find that Biden explicitly stated that this is why he hired them, not because of competence, but because they checked so many boxes on his little list.  It makes a mockery of people and is a disservice to the US.
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am not sure why people are in favor of unaccountable agencies with bloated budgets and wasteful spending.
