Any Experiences with Eva?

I'm getting ready to start working on my voice. Since money is an issue right now I thought I'd try other things and came across the Eva app. Does anyone have any experience with it? Is it worth using to at least get started? Downsides? Other thoughts?

Thanks! :)

I have not used Eva, but I know the person who created it, and their teaching is very good and accurate.  (They are a general speech therapist.)  Even so, YOU are the one who does the work and the one who needs to decide which parts of it work best for you.  Sadly, with Eva and any other program, it is likely that YOU will not like the results or feel they do much, but that is a common problem for Trans* female folks.  Your voice will sound a bit more female to others, but you will not hear it that way for a long time.  Even a friend of my who had vocal cord surgery does not hear her difference.

Give it a shot if you want to, you will not waste your time or money, but need to know that absent years of heavy speech therapy, and maybe not then, that you will sound "more feminine" but not "perfectly female".

I constantly feel my voice drop, though my friends say otherwise. Before leaving on Christmas vacations I did hear my old voice when changing the out of office message---yes totally different.

I don't know if you read the newspapers or magazines (I know you read here!) but I've found that reading out loud is a great way to practice intonation and inflection.

I have not tried Eva as last I checked it wasn't compatible with my phone. However, in the similar apps suggestion I found an app called "Voice Pitch Analyzer" (Purr Programming) and it has you read a page of text and then the app tells you what gender it perceives your voice as, which for me was at least a good way to figure out where my current female voice was landing.

I tried it once with my casual "around friends who know me" voice and it said male.
I tried it again with the voice I use out in public and it said it was between male and female.

I've had the app on my phone for a long time. Though I've never actually put any money into it. It was just good to know it was available for when I do start. Something that always worried me about it though is it hasn't seen the additional lessons added and I've had the app for quite some time. I wasn't sure I wanted to put to much money into something that might not expand. I'm sure I will though either way, it's kinda the only thing I've found so far of its kind.

I have both Eva and Eva Pitch. Pitch is an older version I loaded several years ago. It is outdated and without any update. I don't even think it is available for down load any more. If it is, it is a decent cheap tool. It helps me. As a musician, it encompasses many of the same vocal techniques used in warm ups. The new Eva is nice, but pricey. They charge for each level of exercises. It is quality, but a commitment. I guess if you seek out professional help the cost of the lessons in the app are worth it as you have them forever since you bought them, or at least until your phone or tablet and iOS meet their demise.

In short it's pretty great for what it is.
