Once one has received the court ordered name/gender change document, do we need more than one original copy?

I asked for 10 official copies just in case for things like utilities, bank accounts, DMV, social security, etc., etc. It really depends on how many financial companies you have and if they decide a copy of the official/notarized copy is enough. I still have quite a few left.

I usually get 3. You will always need official. Most if you can do in person, just take one with you and they give it right back. Some like passport they'll need to take. You'll get it back in the mail, but it's easier to always have one on hand.

10? Aren't those like $20 each? Also, I've been told I don't need to go to court for any of this, but everything I read says I do. I'm very confused.

I am in Northern Virginia, they only charged me $5 for my extra copies. It varies from locale to locale, even within the same state. As to going to court, I did not--just had to drop of the form to be processsed. If I was in a different county I would have had to do that. Your best bet is to check with the local court house, your gender therapist, local LGBT or trans support group as to what the laws and processes are.

The court filing fee is $435, Each copy of the certificate is $25. Someone said that I didn't need to file for court to do all this. But everyone else and what I've read says:

Name change requires a court order, while the gender change just requires a doctor's letter. Do each of those doctor's letters have to be an original? I think most doctors charge to fill out forms as well.

I'm not familiar with California, one of the other posters around hear can speak on how it works in real life, but here's the CA government site on the subject:

My doctor didnt charge me anything but she knows im homeless and live wayyyy below the poverty line.

I ordered 5 copies myself of name change court doc. I've already had to use one (won't get it back) for my birth cert update. Best to have several certified copies of your name change doc, it does get used a lot if transitioning.

Oh yes, I just don't want to have a spent much more than I need, that's all. But thank you. Turns out the court filing fee is $435. Holy crap, didn't quite expect that...
