Name change

Ok, something is puzzling me with my State Government website.  Ten years ago I changed my name and gender marker legally and had all my legal documents changed with my correct name and gender marker, including social security, my social security card reflects my correct legal name and gender marker as female, including my State ID.  Recently I logged onto my States Employment Development Department website and it is recognizing me by my old name! Why is this?  The only legal document I have not changed yet and I am going to do so, very shortly and that is, I have not changed my old name and gender marker on my birth certificate, mainly because I am confused about how to go about doing so.  Is this why they still have my old name on file, even though my ID has my current name and gender marker?  I thougth once all the legal documents from the court were filed with the state and federal government  that everything would be taken care, such as my old name being permanently removed from their system. How can I have this done?  I do not want any history of my old name and gender marker anywhere on file, I want it gone forever.

I would contact EDD directly since there is no single place to change all your state records here in CA.  Go into a field office, there is one near where you are with your Social Security card with your new name. They do have "privacy" rooms where you can talk  one on one with an Employment Technician who can get the records changed, it will no matter about your Birth Certificate, it is not even an issue there.

Hi Sue, what Vicky said...  It's crazy how many places have both paper and electronic records and none of them are interfaced or share info.  It can be really frustrating at times.  And overwhelming when you start to find out how many places have your "identity" tucked away.

Thank you girls. It is my birth certificate that I really need to change to my correct name and gender marker.  I looked at the VS-23 form and their is no box for the gender.  -what the heck-?  If I go into a field office, won't I need all my court papers as well?

I would have your court order for name change, your new Social Security card and DL if you need more, they will give you a way to go home and send in by mail.
