I am happy to say that if that had happened to me before I retired that I would have had the department's Special Investigation group personally sitting outside my office door until the other safety stuff had been put in place.  I really feel for the woman.

It feels like one of those cases where it was fashionable to "say" they're an LGBTQI+ friendly police force, company, etc.  But when it comes down to it they're really not at all that concerned about the last few letters of the acronym (at least).  ...Unless of course you look like one of the trans folks they see on TV???  Insert one of us who don't pass very well or otherwise have "issues" and the "support" quickly fades - the PR stunt quickly losses its appeal when they need to DO something for someone they deem unworthy.  I think this is the new "cutting edge" of trans rights as public sentiment about trans* people shifts.

Wow that's pretty awful.  I've had issues with non-trans staff being threatened in the past and I have to say, it was scary.  I sure put the person it was directed towards on edge as well as those of us that knew.  And if staff knew, it changed the whole demeanor of the department.  Ugh... 

While I've gotten some crazy comments, the usual bible stuff thrown my way in notes and emails, and other sophomoric behavior, I never had anything as serious as this person.  Like you said Vicky, I really feel for her.

Whoever in HR knew about these threats and harassment and did nothing, needs to be fired for dereliction of duty.

The hypocrisy of some people amazes me. To actually have the audacity to quote the bible in one sentence and then threaten to commit one of the most heinous sins mentioned in the bible in the next sentence. Wow!

 

That's what I face here in Michigan. After seeing a trans person, unaware that I was trans, a coworker went into a tirade about us, saying all manor of foul things. My employer fired a worker upon discovering she was trans.

 

The majority of people either try to be accepting, or don't really care. But I have to remain alert for those few who are threats, as there is little real concern for us from government or law enforcement. I guess we all have to be alert, but some of us more than others it seems.
