It is very hard for some, but with practice you can attain a passable voice.  It's not all about how high or low you may sound.  How you speak is equally important.  Listen how women speak.  They are different than men in that they tend not to speak in monotone but in a singing manner, rising and lowering tone and volume to make a point of emphasis.

There are many examples of voice training on YouTube that you can watch for ideas.  The key is practice, practice and more practice.  One of my best friends has taken lessons at a local university and she tells me it is tough, but she has a nice voice now.   So can you.

Stacie, I agree with Jani.  It can be difficult, but with practice and someone to guide you, I think nearly everyone can have a passable voice.  Women certainly don't all sound alike, and some, even some famous actresses, have a gravely, deep voice.

Along with the Youtube videos she mentioned, there are CD's for purchase, and some LGBT centers and private voice experts who offer classes and tutoring.  I used a CD by Melanie Phillips, but there are others.  I listened and practiced in my car on the way to work, so I had privacy.  It helped, but constant real life practice helped more.

Once people heard a feminine voice from me over the phone, I knew I had succeeded.  The phone voice was the most difficult part.  I wish you all the best.

I agree with comment said. I remember well a woman I came across once at work. She had a very male voice. Otherwise she was obviously very female. Looking around you can spot such women. Another young woman I came across had the hairiest arms I had seen on anyone (even males) for some time, but she was not openly concious of them and was otherwise very beautiful. I feel for them, but it does help to realise that everyone is different and there are very few 'steriotypical women'.

Mostly I find it is down to confidence. I like to get out and communicate with women I meet. It's practice! I have been mistaken over the phone, but it is sporadic as my confidence ebbs and flows.

Yes, practice, practice, practice, but best of all - using your voice in real situations. You have to think who you are at first, but, in time, you become who you are!

The voice is a difficult one to overcome.  A few years ago we were in Vegas and multiple times my wife said my voice and I weren't matching.  She found it kind of funny.  I was mortified.  For me, it took a lot of practice and sometimes I still slip.
