And if a poll had been taken of the troops prior to the end of segregation in the military, most troops would probably have been in support of continuing that policy, too.

 

Human rights are not subject to the approval of the majority.  If they were, there would be no human rights.

They weighted the responses. Why? How? What were the raw percentages I wonder.....

I'd be willing to bet that the responses would fall out on the same lines of officer vs. enlisted and AF/Navy vs. Army/USMC that the general approval of 45 did. http://www.newsweek.com/majority-us-military-officers-have-unfavorable-view-trump-new-poll-shows-691807 .

 

Another way of looking at it: in the January poll, only 11% of servicemembers said that the Obama policy "helped" readiness, while 41% said it "hurt" and 43% said it makes no difference.

 

In the poll linked in the original post, only 38% agreed STRONGLY with Trump's stance while 34.5% disapproved. The remainder of those who "approved" may well have been in the indifferent category, and by training inclined to support the CiC regardless of policy.

 

Basically, they asked the question differently, so you can't really see a clear trend of changing opinion one way or the other. A certain slice of the military are going to support the CiC no matter what the policy is.
