Hearing Update

I just emailed my audiologist to see what she has to say on Monday.  As it stands, though, it's looking like I have a bigger issue with my hearing than originally thought.

My hearing aids were sent out yesterday for repair.  I've got a loaner pair right now.  The issue I was having with them was they would occasionally cut out, leaving me fully deaf in one ear as that ear canal was obstructed by a non-functioning hearing aid.  I started to get suspicious when the loaner pair continued to do the same thing.

So when it happened while I was standing next to my microwave, which had the fan on, I took a hearing aid out to turn it off and back on again, thinking that might fix the problem.  Well, new problem.  I still couldn't hear the fan with the hearing aid out.  This tells me it's not the hearing aids malfunctioning.  It's my ears.

Scary thought.  We'll see what Dr. Clark says on Monday.  I see her again a week from Monday anyway, but I'm not messing around with this.

That IS scary to contemplate.  I hope that, whatever the cause, a remedy can be found for it.  Best of luck to you, Dev.

I'm sorry to learn this is happening.  I hope your doctor can do something that helps.

I hope it gets sorted. With any luck they will find a simple underlying problem and sort it so you don't need an aid at all!

Having had a world class session of ear wax cleaning just before I got my newest set of aids, you have my full sympathies.  The clean out they did on me had netted an almost solid plug of 1/3 of my ear canal in one ear, and a 2/3 blockage of the other ear.  Hopefully no bugs embedded in the stuff they get out, if that is what they find.

Update to the update: I got a reply email from my audiologist this morning.  She said she took a look at my profile and is convinced there's something wrong with the hearing aid settings that's messing with my hearing.  She said she's certain it's not another problem with the ears, so when I see her next Monday we'll fiddle with things and make the whole problem go away.

I don't care if it takes a few more visits to solve the problem.  I'm just glad (and very relieved) she spotted something that would account for things.

That's good but its a shame you have to wait a week to see her.

I saw this concert in which it is said that the famous phrase of Jon Landau "I saw the future of rock and roll and his name is Bruce Springsteen" comes from that night. By the way Bruce opened for Bonnie Raitt that night and she was the better performer . . . just sayin'.

Astronomy and astrophotography.  I have done a few public presentations on the subject and could most likely wing it for an hour without putting you to sleep.   On the other hand if you need a sleeping pill, I could also talk for an hour about flying and you'd be out cold.

Please consider joining us, even if it's just for a few minutes to see what the meetings are like. I've learned so much, had so much fun and gained confidence in myself just by being a part of this amazing group of people. It's a low key, no pressure, non-judgmental chance to just be among people who are supportive, understanding and affirming of each other.    I'm travelling out of state and still planning on dropping in for awhile.    Come see what it's like!!

Thank you, Susan!! It was such an amazing experience for me. I can't remember if I even talked about it on a Zoom meeting.   Here is the link to the post I made about it. And, again, thank you for helping to give me the courage to do it.

Good morning coffees   This probably doesn’t exactly apply to me because you wouldn’t have found a more shy and conservative person than me.  I was perhaps less shy before my sister started complaining about me doing things that were hers to do. And I would become embarrassed and that was the end of that.   upstairs unit got their typical weekend visitors in the middle of the night last night.  They woke me up.  They have little consideration for being in a condo community and the neighbors being in such close proximity.   @awkward-yet-sweet , how goes the job with your husband’s boss?  I don’t recall you saying much about it this week, but I could have missed a post along the way.  If I recall you were supposed to meet with him last Monday.   @KymmieL I hope you are feeling better.     Yes, I find it to be wrong that just because a car part says Ford or Chevrolet on the box that same part with Lincoln or Cadillac on the box cost a lot.more.  I know there are differences in the upscale brands such as the engine and drivetrain in the Caddy and of course the interior fit and finish.  But it’s the same body with things crammed in the same way under the hood.     well, time to finish my coffee, fix my hair and made my way across the street to work.    willow

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.
