Sodium Intake

I am a saltaholic . I actually used so much salt I could have  probably been arrested for Driving While Under the Influence of Salt !!! LOL

I noticed my hair was starting to shed and did some reading about salt being the culprit. I also suspected HRT, blood pressure meds or occupational hazards.  Now that the dust has settled I really don't know if excess sodium was the reason (I doubt it) but nonetheless I quit using my beloved salt and have had some really great results. My hair quit shedding and I think it was just a natural thing I experienced.

Took me about a week but I finally got rid of the extra salt induced  fluid retention and food is starting to taste better. I lost about five pounds and just generally feel better. Perhaps the biggest thing I noticed is that my heart palpitations (PVC's) are almost gone!!!! I was never one to heed the warnings about over indulging with sodium but I am now. A true believer in fact!

Being conscious of my good health is paramount, especially being on MTF HRT . It's a shame that my temporary hair loss is what finally forced me into ridding sodium from my diet,  but for whatever reason I very grateful.

Just my two cents. :)

Little trick about the hair loss thing, it may have been related to your hormones as well, and was actually a good thing, since the hair that fell out will be replaced by E nourished strands, and the ones you lost were T hairs that are thicker and coarser than female stuff and more for the making of bad hair days.

Hi Vicky and thanks for responding. Been on HRT for three years and  after that long do you think it still may be hormonal??? Considering  your comment,  the hair loss might just have a silver lining !!!

Thanks so much,

Tess

Each of us has a slightly different "change over" time as far as hair grows so it could be a good thing even at three years.  Mine ran that pattern per my hair stylist who has had me as a client that long.

We all need some salt. But I believe high sodium contributed to my heart attack. It takes getting used to but now I do not care for food with high salt.

Good luck.

thanks Rachael. Made it two weeks and haven't touched the salt shaker. I'm sorry to hear of your heart attack and hope you're doing well :)

After realizing years ago that salt was in or on everything we eat I stopped using the shaker.   Unfortunately its in many processed foods as a preservative.  When I eat them I look for low sodium versions.  Now if something is too salty I cant eat it.
