I am in the process or researching the experience of partner of trans people, specifically male partners. That is if I can find male partners to speak too.

I was previously in a relationship with a trans women, which had a deeply profound effect on me. This influenced me to choose trans partnership as research topic for my doctorate thesis, which I am conducting in Counselling Psychology, with Middlesex University, London. This is specifically on how the partner of a trans person may experience their identity. I am particularly interested in looking at this in male partners of trans people as there is very little research on this, and I believe that this is really important to give this group a voice. However this is not a very visible population. So I am wondering if anyone would have any ideas about how I could find male partners to speak to, or if there is any male partners who would want to be interviewed.

I'm just really wondering what the specific issues that this group might experience, and the reasons why they might not be visible.  I have a feeling that they are out there, but (without meaning to generalise) that men are less likely to utalise things such as support groups and forums.

I have made a facebook page to advertise my study and to double up as an information resource for partners of trans people.  So if anyone would like me to send them a link to this please let me know.  I am not sure if I should post it here without asking first.

Thanks for reading

My partner says he's interested! If you send me the link I'll pass it along to him. I know he had a lot of trouble finding any stories of cis men staying with their trans boyfriends as they transitioned, so he felt a little like he was in uncharted territory. This is definitely a great topic to research.

Hello Paul,

Welcome to TransPulse. Could you clarify something for me. Are you seeking  cis-males or trans males or both?  There is a link to your facebook in your profile. Should any of our members be interested, they can find it there.  We would also ask that any member who might respond, is that they remain completely anonymous. This is a must. The safety of our members is a high priority that we take very seriously. That being said, I'm sure there are some here who meet the criteria you are looking for. Hopefully, they will respond.

Hi ChickenLittle

Thanks for your interest and for replying to my post.   I'm sorry for the delay in replay, I forgot to check here, as I have been trying a few different things.  I tried to reply to you directly but it would let me know.  It would great if your partner would take part, I agree with you that it is uncharted territory and that is why I am excited to research in this area.   A link to my facebook page is below, I can be messaged there, which advertises my study and my the way to get in contact with me, or I can be messaged directly there.  I also took the opportunity to make it a resource for partners, but so far I don't think many people have found it yet.  I will also attach a copy of the poster too.

Hi Marie Ellen

Thank you for your support and encouragement.  Sorry for the delay in replying, I didn't get into the habit of checking here, and didn't realise how much time had went past since I posted.  I am seeking cis males who are either currently partners of  trans people, or were a partner to a trans person in the past. I hope now that I've uploaded my poster that this clarifies things a bit more.  Participants  confidentiality and animosity would be completely upheld, as per  the ethical guidelines that were set by my University which I am following. If anyone wants any more information on this I can provide it, and this will be covered on the participant info sheet, I would sent people, prior to taking part.  If you can think of any other way of me advertising my study, or how to get my facebook page more widely seen, this would be great, particularly as I have been trying to make this a resource for partners.   I really appreciate your help.

Best Wishes

Paul

HI Carolyn Marie

Thank you for your support, I definitely will do that, as I am thinking about different ways that I can spread the findings.  I have noticed that I am not able to sent direct messages to people as when I try to it says that I can only send 0 messages per day, is this correct?  I would have ideally contacted you or one of the other moderators for permission first before i posted but was not able too.

Thanks

New members must have five posts before being allowed to access the message system.  One more post and you should have access.

Tension is not a well-understood psychological state. It can be both positive and negative, much like stress itself. A 2015 research paper on the theoretical framework of tension notes it's an anticipatory emotional state which tends to be associated with: conflict.

I'd love to have a dinner party with Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Voltaire, and Ayn Rand.  Would definitely be an interesting time.

In the forward I learn that transgenderism is bad, and somewhere else that transgender ideology is bad.  I have not yet read a definition of either in the document.  I assume they are the same.  I know Focus on a Family has a definition of transgenderism on their website, or did, but I am not sure this is the same as that.  I might agree that transgenderism is bad if they use a definition I condemn (e.g. transgenderism means you always pour ketchup in your shoes before you put them on - I could not agree to that).  Is someone who believes in transgenderism, whatever it is, a transgenderist? I never see that term.  There may be other definitions out there, but I don't think there is an Official Definition that we all agree to.

Crazy fact, was gonna go to the school where this went down at before I moved, have a lot of friends there. I know at least one of my friends met the guy on one occasion, not knowing who it was.

They are thinking of Loudon.  The problem there was the girls were not protected from a known predator, who was moved from one school to another instead being effectively disciplined.  Outlaw school administrators? <sarc>

How ironic.  I agree with the governor "“You cannot change your gender; you cannot pick your gender…there is a confused group of people that somehow think you can,”    - we are what we are, we are fighting the fact we CANNOT change our gender, which we did not pick.  Many if not all of us would not have picked a trans condition and have sought to evade, deny or move out or resolve it anyway we can.  Those who are confused on this issue are not trans folk.  They want us to change our gender but they deny we can.  Confusion.

@FinnyFinsterHH no one can satisfy your questions about what will the future hold. But I can advise you to slow your mind down as much as you're able. Take it slow and one moment at a time. This advice goes beyond the practical reality that that's truly all you can do - further, try to enjoy each moment. It's clear you have a lot of aspirations regarding transition. But it's best to try to accept the bounds of your life circumstances at present because if you develop worries or even resentments about them, that will only make you bitter and more anxious. Instead, try to focus on anything you find affirming. Practice positive self-talk and give yourself affirmations too. Try to let go of expectations of your family members - they can only deal with change to the capacity they're able due to their own life conditions. Allow them grace as you wish they would allow you. Practice patience.   Try this exercise - read through your post and make one list of the positive developments and another of things you cannot control (including the future). If you have a sense of spirituality, offer the second list as a sacrifice to however you understand a higher power - leave it in their hands. If you're not spiritual, then offer it up to hope. Then throw that list away. Keep the list of positives and leave some room on it because guaranteed you'll have more and more to add. Look forward to that, but don't let your mind think it can rush things. Try to enjoy the ride.
