Its midnight here...so, technically morning :P

I had a really weird evening, and learned something new about politics.  My sister, who is running for public office as our township constable, received a "present" today, left on the hood of her patrol car.  An axe!  Wrapped in a bundle of sticks (dowels?).  The sheriff received one also, and a couple other candidates.  Now, my first thought was it was meant as a threat, and I was freaked out when she told me.  But she wisely identified it as political criticism:

During the 2020 election, a small dissident minority objected to our sheriff, and labeled him "Mussolini."  Apparently the symbol of the F@scist Party came from ancient Rome.  An axe, circled with rods, and the whole bundle was called "fasces" and represented the authority of the state.  Roman officials would have them symbolically carried ahead of them through the city on parade.  Other nations used it too, including the USA.  But since the 1920s, it is mostly associated with a certain political party.  Either I was never taught this in high school, or I didn't notice it.

So, it appears that this election season will have some interesting aspects.  And I have been asked to put gold spray paint on an axe, to make it like a trophy.  :?

Oh my! I am glad to hear you're not passing anymore blood. I hope they figure it out soon! How distressing!

Good news is that I have nothing serious going on. The blood was coming from internal hemorrhoids, and the doctor says it's from the "typical American diet." Too much fat and carbs but not enough plant based fiber. A few other things were noted and biopsies on them for safety sake.

Hospital visit was grand with "most" of the staff addressing me as female. I did have "bra talk" with one of the CNA's. Even my discharged papers use my preferred name on them (Birdie).

So basically, adding more fiber to my diet will eliminate my internal hemorrhoids as well as lower my risk for cancer.

Good morning

weii I’ve read some good news here this morning

Yes the ancient Roman symbol was used on some coins. The Mercury dime come to mind. It was showing our fighting might.  Arrows and a fighting axe.  I realize few people recall the Mercury dime.  My 6th grade swore there was no such thing so I brought him one.  He had promised a dollar if I could prove it which I did. Then he tried to Welch on the bet. The entire class got on him and he had to give me the dollar.  Ah, the little things we still remember from over 60 years ago.  Like today as a

i was cutting a banana for my cereal I recalled my grandfather doing the same for me about 70+ years ago.

well instead of a 9 hour day I have an 8 hour day scheduled then there is that stay a little longer to do X.

Good morning everyone,

I’ve been working on a few projects and my internet screen time has been very low. Today is Primary Election Day for Indian voters. I will be voting later, but the most important thing I’m looking forward to is the reduction of political advertising. Let’s get back to regular daytime advertising which reminds me of the need for hearing aids, Medicare choices, and comfortable catheters. Heaven forbid I would need an accident injury lawyer to get me the big check. Only daytime TV can take a 30 minute show from the 1980s and make it into an hour long series. I really don’t watch that much TV because I prefer to listen to music while I’m in the shop or doing yard work.

The coffee is good, the morning songbirds are loud as they forage for their hatches.

My Keurig is used for hot water mostly and when my mom comes. I mostly use a regular coffee maker. I have had that for 5 years now. I had a Bunn but it didn't last long. I also have a French press and rarely use that.

I use a electric kettle and a French press.

I am not a fan of Starbucks.  I sometimes go to a local coffeeshop, but am satisfied with your basic coffee and a scone.

I was really lucky when I gave up smoking. I just decided one morning that I just didn't want to smoke anymore. That was back in 1996. The silly thing was, I still had a couple of packets left I and used them up! After that I only 'borrowed' less than a handful in the months after that and I haven't missed them since.

I’m not a fan of Starbucks either. I love our little town cafe coffee, anytime of the day. Apple Pie is my go to treat. Today I had a wonderful omelette with my coffee.

I can never find coffee that matches good restaurants coffee.  The closest iv come so far was when I accidentally made a pot last week with less water than I had meant to use.  But that still wasn’t right.  Now I’ve heard put a little salt in with the ground coffee or add baking soda but I have no clue how much to use.

home baked pie in the local cafe is the best, but the best Key Lime pie was from a place called The Fish House in Key Largo. One thing they do differently is the topping is meringue not whipped cream. But it’s also made from real key limes.  An advantage of being in the keys.

I'm glad to hear it! Fruits and veggies time! I just had a greek yogurt with flax meal and blueberries and now I'm feeling better about that! I am so glad you're OK!

Just finished my second cup of coffee after an appointment with my normal stylist, I haven't see her since November! First time see her since going femme full time. I'd texted her before the appointment, just in case, but she has been super sweet the whole time. Not much hair ended up on the floor, but I'm going to need the back trimmed before long but for now I just got some shaping done.

These places have the best food.   Unfortunately, the one I used to go to thinks I'm going to hell these days.

It's just the opposite here.  There are a ton of local boutique coffee roasters in this area.  There is no excuse for bad coffee here, which is why I am always surprised when I get mediocre truck-stop coffee in restaurants.

I have three within a two block walk! You'd think I was in Seattle already! The one I have always gone to is the quintessential "local coffee shop" though; local artist's works on the wall, drinks named after customers and local geography, and it's run down just enough to feel homey. Also, I can bring my 20oz coffee mug in and get it filled for the price of a small! :D

Biopsies came back mostly clear except one, one polyp came back with abnormal cell growth (pre-cancerous). It was completely removed during the colonoscopy so I don't know yet if further action needs to be taken.

I had that same outcome from my first colonoscopy years ago. It just triggered more frequent colonoscopies for a period of time. Hopefully, that will be the same plan for you.

Good morning, everyone!

Coffee is flowing so my brain is beginning to function.

We've been busy caring for aging family members and trying to get the house open now that the weather is getting warmer. I've been working on getting the pool open and cleaned. It's almost ready for salt and starting up the heater. We may be swimming by next week.

But, it's raining here today so I guess I'll be stuck working inside.

Have a wonderful and safe, day!!

It never rains but it pours.  We had a dry spring, but now my garden is a swamp and my yard is a pond.  Get off the gravel road, and you'd need a hovercraft.   With nothing better to do, I'm going on a short trip with my husband tomorrow.  Since he's in management he usually doesn't do this sort of work, but whenever he does I usually go along.  And he already knows not to try staying in a hotel, because I want to sleep in the bunk in the truck.  So much more cozy.   And for a couple of days, GF can actually take care of her own kids instead of leaving them to me....

Good morning, everyone!!

I got our porches and outdoor furniture power washed yesterday. Let the warm weather festivities begin!! Well, just in time for the cool rainy weather we're supposed to be getting for the next few days.

Not sure what I'll do today - with rain projected I'll be stuck inside, I guess.

Be safe and have fun on your adventure @awkward-yet-sweet!!

Good morning

It sounds like everyone either got rain or is about to.   Me too, we have a double red flag at the beach (which people ignore). Storms predicted, although yesterday they stayed north west of us, today they should slam straight into us.

it seems like every day my wife does a little bit more for herself.  She still has a long way to go to be fully recovered however.  Today’s coffee did not come in a pod but it is still a single. Grounds in a replacement for the pod. Less convenient but it is just as good.  Ugh, I didn’t use enough coffee.  I’ll know better next time.  But that’s why you need to use the real thing.

another shortened day today, which is fine by me, followed by grocery shopping.  Not doing the Costco thing, neither of us want that.  Coffee pods will be on the list.

adios amigos, hi ho silver up up and away

the separated and the end of every show but we’re always together again next time on their show when the Lone Ranger needed help.

Yes,I hate that     Also finding out I might be father of a 24 year young lady.I had an one night stand with a woman off base when I was in the army.Called this afternoon and said I am possibly the father of her now 24 year old daughter.Told her I will agree with a paternity test that will be done.

Yeah.  I like Nebula, that was where I watched it.   I posted the YouTube cause I figured more people could see it.

We agree on most of this... and the church/state thing is kind of a tangent anyways. Oops. LOL   I think it has long been established that all different kinds of groups have access to public funds. In my opinion, either everybody has access or nobody does. I would prefer "nobody."   Relying on public funds gives the government the power to take it away, and puts that power in the hands of whatever group controls the government at the moment... the news article that is the topic of this thread shows a clear example of that happening.  Organizations trust government at their peril.

More info on Abigail Thorne here: https://go.nebula.tv/philosophytube and, Dracula's ex-girlfriend, on Philosophy tube.   "The reason why Nebula is so cheap for what it is, is because there's no upper hierarchical group looking yo skim off the top. Imagine how much cheaper EVERYTHING could be if it was like that for every other service or product; if the money went straight to workers, not up a chain of command until it reached someone who did exactly "jack" to produce what's being sold.

I'm aware that the young US ended up fighting a war with these people, and that phrase was not meant to address Church & state.  But somebody was willing to include it at the time.   I am also aware that your family arrangements would not go over well with most christian nationalists.  But that is kinda where I'm coming from on this.  I believe you and others of us with an unconventional lifestyle should be free to live as we desire - as long as we are not hurting anyone else.  And by "hurting" I don't mean only their feelings.   Using christianity to justify oppression is just wrong.  As is forced conversion, or forced conversion therapy.   Regarding public funds, LGBTQetc people have as much right to them as straight-cis folks.  I'm not arguing that queer people have more rights, just equal rights.

Even better news:  It turns out for my sister it was cardio not stroke. She’s put on new blood thinner and sent home. False alarm! Yay.

Things have changed since I've been on HRT for about 15 years. The consequence is I am not so concerned about how I present all the time.  I wear t-shirts a lot. I am pragmatic in how I shop. No, I don't want to look male, but will buy some male clothing because it fits. I am tall and built like a football linebacker, so buying women's clothes that fit can be difficult. For one I have no problem buying men's sneakers if they can pass as unisex. I wear size 12-13 women's shoes. And that can be hard to find. And, I don't like wearing slacks without pockets. I use pockets for work.    I've learned to be pragmatic. I dress up when I want to go out in public, and not so much at work. I do have a favorite blouse that accentuates the girls. And one blue striped blouse where I wear a cami top.

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/danthropology/2016/05/secularists-please-stop-quoting-the-treaty-of-tripoli/   ^^^ an interesting piece about the treaty, written by an atheist.   I totally understand why the Christian nationalist stuff makes people uncomfortable. For me, it is uncomfortable in a different way, as modern Christian nationalism is not nearly as "generic" as the views of the Founders.  Its specifically Evangelical.  I'm in a plural marriage, so definitely not approved of.    I believe the intent of the Founders was to uhold generic Christian ideas... "in God we trust" and "there's a God who created the world and He wrote ten commandments for us" sort of stuff.  Nothing beyond that, nothing specific enough to use against folks.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
Free?!?!  That's insane.  I can understand perhaps mistaking somebody's well equipped garage as a business, but demanding free work is ridiculous.   My GF once remarked that while few things in life are free, butt-kickings are an exception. She offers those free-of-charge, to any who ask. A little charity helps the world go round 🤣
    • Ivy
I had a CDL when I was working for the city.  But I let it go when I retired.  I couldn't justify paying so much just to drive myself around.
    • Ivy
While I'm sure the "Founders" had the 30 years war, etc. on their minds, they didn't write the constitution as considering only Christian sects. The early colonists (I used the word) did mostly come from areas of "christian culture" but it's hard to reconcile some of their actions with what Christ himself taught.   Christians have a right to their beliefs, but there are a lot of American citizens that do not consider themselves "christian."  I have seen writings where the US was specifically said not to be a "Christian Nation". "The 1797 Treaty of Tripoli that sought to secure America from attacks by the so-called Barbary pirates who were Muslim made a point to say that the United States "is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion.""    It shouldn't be difficult to understand why the "Christian Nationalist" movement makes some of us uncomfortable.
