HRT and Breast Growth

Hey Ladies,

So I have such a strange question to ask, but I don't visit my endocrinologist for 2 weeks and I am looking for suggestions. I have only been on Hormone Therapy for 9 weeks now, and within the last 2 weeks my breast have like boomed with growth and they hurt so badly, it is hurting all over my chest. I have been wearing sports bras and support to see if that helps, and to hide the growth while I am at work until I completely transition next month. Does anyone have suggestions about how to help the pain? I am a little shocked I have had this much growth so early and I don't know how to deal with it.

Sports bras should help some. A padded bra may offer more padding( I can’t think of another word) to help bumping or brushing things. It will get easier but you will be sore for some months. For me it got better 6-10 months but I still have a small amount of tenderness and I am 14 months hrt. Sorry I don’t know more. Best of luck.

The pain is a sign of growth, and while cushioning and support do help to some degree you can take some comfort (intentional pun) in the idea that this will subside in probably another two months.  I am assuming you mean general pain and not just in a single spot.  If it is one limited single spot call your GP and get in pretty fast since that could be serious.  Aspirin or Ibuprofen will help some but check with your GP or Pharmacist to be sure you do not overdo it. Going up a size on your T-shirts will help for a while.  My cis daughters went through the same thing as teenagers so I was ready for mine when it hit.  Sports bras can be supportive, but they also can make you more sensitive to accidental knocks and shocks.  After the original sore time, I did go  through two other sessions of sensitivity about 18 months apart, one had me so ticklish that I almost could not slide on a T shirt, and a later one after my GCS was Erotic feelings when I put on soft clothing.  I do not know which was worse.

Omg lol. Girl it hurts. Im right about the same time frame, maybe a little bit less but I had to ask the same thing about a week ago. Yes, sports bras help so much and I wear an under shirt and a little bit bigger shirt. I also tuch my hair under a hat but Idk, it is getting harder it seems to hide. If I bump it to a tall table at work my eyes water up. Im happy for boo s but scared to come out. I take asprin. I try to avoid ibuprofen because of its side effects on inside abdominal stuff. Its exciting becoming yourself isn't it?

No good response here other than to be careful.  It will subside soon enough to a level that is reasonable.   Certainly contact your doctor about OTC medications.

Yours is a good news/bad news tale.  It is likely that individuals reading about your growth spurt in a relatively brief amount of time will be filled with envy.  However, I don't envy you for the pain that you are experiencing.  Some people tolerant pain better than others.  How are you on that score?  Is your pain threshold fairly low or can you live with a fair amount of pain over an extended period of time?  I'm glad you have an upcoming appointment with your endocrinologist.  You might consider giving your care provider a call and letting her/him know about the discomfort you are experiencing.

Hang in there.  Hopefully soon the painful period will be part of your past.

All the best,

Kati

Thank you for all the responses! I bought some padded sports bras. It has offered some protection and actually is pretty comfortable. The soreness is my entire chest area. Some of the docs I work with told m not to sweat it too much that it would get better, just like you guy recommend. So thankful for all your input!
