First TDOR In My Part Of The Los Angeles Area

In the 15 years I have been aware of TDOR we have not had one in the San Gabriel Valley part of the greater Los Angeles, but this year we had one here.  This particular one was hosted by an Episcopal Church parish that I know very well, even though it is not my home parish.  There were actually only 4 Trans people and about 30 LGB allies, many of whom I know from involvement with my diocese and it was very nice, although I felt the Cis influence in putting it together.  Nevertheless, people did talk with us Trans types and were honestly concerned and willing to listen to us.  I was asked to read a closing prayer which I thought was very appropriate for the audience there even though it had a higher application to the Cis community, but in regard to Trans people. 
 

I spoke to the Rector of the church for a few minutes who was VERY pleased to meet me since unbeknownst to me, my name had been given to him by another  member of his parish as a contact with the Trans community.  The idea is for the church to get more involved in Transgender support activity.  I told him I would be happy to get involved with such a project.  As a side note, this Church was the first mainline church to give religious blessing to same sex partnerships twenty five years ago.  The energy that went into Same Gender marriage needs to be channeled and Trans is a good direction to go with it.  I may be busier than I am already, but this is what I like to do.

While the reason for TDOR is certainly one of sadness and pain, i'm glad you have managed to turn it to a positive direction.
