Ye Cannae Wear Yer Sister's Claes

[Note: This is in Scots dialect - Claes = Clothes / Cannae = Cannot / Toon = Town / Tae = To / Metter = Matter / Disnae = Doesn't ]

YE CANNAE WEAR YER SISTER'S CLAES

Ye cannae wear yer sister's claes,
D'ye want the whole toon tae think yer gay?
Disnae metter if ye just like silk and lace,
Ye just cannae wear yer sister's claes -

Yer sister and her pals wear make-up and stuff,
Skimpy tops, jewellery and silly wee skirts,
Silk stockings, heels and lacy trim cuffs,
You'd love to look that pretty, is that asking too much?

She looks so sweet, dressed up in a frock,
You'd love to wear one tae, but people would mock,
They'd slander ye daft wi' their gossip and talk,
And if they could, throw ye right in the dock -

The judge in his chair with a big wig and gown,
Would hear the prosecution with a bluidy deep frown,
Of how ye became, the talk o' the town,
"That's enough o' that son, you're going down!"

You could deal drugs and that would be okay,
Get done fir drunk driving and come what may,
You'll be forgiven fir 'aw that, one of these days,
But ye just cannae wear yer sister's claes!

Lovely!

It would be nice to hear this recited in your local accent, although I get the feel well. From experience, with me, it's only when the accent gets really to the highlands (not just words, but local intonation) that my understanding is poor, but thank you for the translation.

Thank you

Tracy

Thanks for posting.

My late and former father-in-law was the organizing member of one of the major Clan Societies here in Southern California when my ex-wife and I were first married, and she I and our children were included in many Scottish athletic and music festivals over the years, and the Scots dialects that I listened to "o'er tae yars" became fully understandable and a lot of fun to me since they often put emphasis on parts of a conversation or monologue that I would otherwise have ignored and not seen the wry Scot's view of it.

I’m imagining that sing songy Scottish pronunciation. Bravo! The poem really captures the backwards logic of certain cultures that are ok with people being criminals but forbid anything that makes them uncomfortable even if it’s not dangerous in the slightest. Because of course it preferable to be an outlaw!

I really don't think that's a good idea. The unity of the LGB and T community is historic and has been central for both groups rights. And the vast majority of people advocating for splitting the two are transphobic LGB's who are broadly condemned by the community anyway.

A bit late in updating, but I've had the draft of the official diagnosis and have (as yet unconfirmed) an endo consultation next month.   Next to arrive will be the supporting documentation for my new passport application for my correct gender.  This will then be my official ID for all the other updates - bank, tax, payroll etc.   It just feels good to to be proactive again rather than waiting for other people to move at a leisurely pace.

I like ELF brand cosmetics, I can pick them up at JC Penny.    I wear makeup everyday, but mostly just very light makeup.

Hi Mae Be, whenever it comes to makeup, there are so many different bands to choose from. Picking out the right makeup comes with trial and error, until you find one that works for you and blends well with your skin tone, some makeup products can leave the skin feeling oily. It's a good idea to look at the labels on the makeup product to know what the creators put in the makeup, just in case skin allergies. Once you found the makeup brand, you can add it to your shopping list, good luck

To be fair I’m pretty lost when it comes to makeup technique. I’ve watched videos, but I have no idea what works for or would help my features. So I just bungle along, hoping I don’t look terrible.
